A/G Lawn maintenance
Whatever you do, do NOT HIRE him to build a patio. He had no clue what he was doing. Where to even begin. Day one should’ve been a huge red flag. He was supposed to be there at 8:30 AM, and didn’t show up the entire day. He said he had to go get Flagstone from another city. This was a Tuesday, he made me pre-pay $500 to get the flagstone that previous Friday so that he could start bright and early Tuesday morning. So the reason he didn’t have it is beyond me. Then on Wednesday when he finally did show up he didn’t show up until noon.
When building a flagstone patio, you are supposed to dig down 2 to 4 inches before even starting with anything. He immediately dumped a bunch of sand on top of the grass. Uhhhhh. Totally wrong. That has so much give with soft grass and dirt and sand on it. Then the “retaining wall” he built to hold this whole thing up was not dug in at all. Literally stacked it on top of grass, and it’s crooked. He also used the WRONG bricks. He used the type that you would put around the base of a tree for decoration. No way to reinforce them and they’re a triangle shape because they’re meant for landscaping circular areas.
Whew, after all that, when he was laying the flagstone on top of the NOT compacted dirt and my sister said something to him. He walked off the job. He was doing everything wrong, and when you try to correct him he will just quit.
Then the harassment started. He had already been paid $1000 at this point. Definitely only about $300 in supplies have been bough. He started sending myself and my sister-in-law Venmo request for an additional $600. Saying the work is “done”. No homie, that’s not how life works. You can’t do a job completely wrong, walk off the job without finishing, and then expect to get paid in full. We had to put locks on the gates because he seems like the immature type that would retaliate.
Oh and the frosting on the cake? As soon as we got a big rain this week, all of that dirt and sand went flooding out into the grass because of his half assed retaining wall. Super. This was supposed to be a surprise and a gift to my sister, and now it is just a big nightmare and we are $1000 down. Run for the hills before you ever think of hiring him for a project.
