A friend referred me to Sonia for private singing lessons. Prior to going to Sonia, I was essentially "tone deaf" and fearful of the mic while karoking. Sonia worked hard to help me understand that I was not "tone deaf" but needed to train my vocal cords to match different notes. The lessons gave me the confidence to pick up the mic and sing a few songs without fear.

I had an introductory voice lesson with Laura last week, and it left me more excited than ever to delve deeper into understanding my voice and body as an instrument. Even after one hour, I felt like I was given foundational building blocks to a maintaining a healthy voice and vocal practice that I will use always. I am a performing musician, singing in two Austin bands, and I am a preschool teacher, so I use my voice a lot. Like, really really a lot. I sought out vocal lessons as a way to protect myself from injuring this expressive outlet I rely on, and to feel more comfortable and confident in my vocal performances. I understand a lot about my voice but I had never had lessons, and I could tell from the strain I was left with after shows or a busy week at work that I was at an impasse. Laura was recommended to me by a friend, and we set up our lesson the following week. My first vocal lesson ever! Laura was so warm and supportive. I was nervous but she was very reassuring. I felt comfortable working with her and found that she communicated complicated or specific ideas in a way that was accessible and immediately applicable to posture, breathing, and vocalization. I left feeling thrilled that I had found her and really excited to have her as a guide to pushing the boundaries of my vocal expression. I am so happy we made that connection. I've been singing all week, practicing what she gave me, and cannot wait for my next lesson.

John has been a very special presence in my life! He has been very successful in helping me to feel more comfortable in my own personhood. I recently lost my Mom, and, through his encouragement to be aware of my breathing, I have begun to heal from this loss. John will cover the most extraordinary range of music with me! Both contemporary (pop), show tunes and classical. He has helped me with making smoother transitions between my three registers (chest, head and very high head -- I don't know what that's called!) He has a wonderful sense of humor and I look forward to working with him for a very long time!

Eugene’s Music Studio is one of the most professional & kind music studios we had the honor to work with. My son is so excited and cannot wait for his piano lessons. The teacher was able to keep him busy and involved throughout the entire session (not an easy task) and she always comes up with new ways for him to stay involved. We are very happy that we found Eugene's Music Studio. Eugene was very attuned and helped us find the best fit for our child and we look forward to seeing the progress he will make with time.

I can't think of anything that could have made my daughter's experience better! A high school actress, she got bit by the musical theatre bug but had no training and little confidence in her voice. There is no other word but "uncanny" for Chantel's ability to connect with an individual student, intuit her strengths and unique musical tastes and objectives, and yet also inspire her to stretch and move outside her comfort zone. My daughter also took guitar lessons with Chantel's husband Derek and I would say exactly the same thing about his teaching -- plus he showed such a kind and generous nature whenever my daughter struggled to balance school, work, acting, etc., and wasn't so diligent with her practicing! Both Chantel and Derek really got this - and respected it - always tailoring their lessons to my daughter's needs and capacities at the time. I believe the training you'll receive from Chantel is as rigorous as you'll find anywhere in Austin -- and my guess is there aren't many places where you'll walk out feeling so good about the experience. Chantel and Derek's home studio is warm and intimate -- the *perfect* place to deepen your love of music and performance.

India Taylor’s music and professionalism were absolutely exquisite and exactly the right choice for our wedding. We wanted some classical music and yet something that was personal to us. India’s singing performance of the Ave Maria and classical guitar rendition of Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring were inspiringly beautiful. What put the icing on the cake, however, was the custom song she wrote for us. The lyrics not only spoke of each of our personalities, they also melded us together in the unique aspects of our love for each other. Add to the lyrics her enchanting music, and our wedding was the most perfect ever. Thank you! Joann & Chuck

Working with Chris is and adventure in personal discovery and development. As a retired research librarian I had to asky myself why. -- Actively Diagnostic -- Chris found out for himself where I actually am. We started with a (very) short music / singing history, a directional goal based on what I hoped to do, then actual breath and sound work to find out what my breath and sound was at that very moment. He even used that diagnostic process to begin to help me become aware of what I’m doing now. For example, to breathe in a specific way and notice what happened, and describe it. Then breathe a different way and compare it. Already I was learning the physical awareness I need to develop. -- Discovery not Dogma.-- After the first month of lessons I still haven’t been told what ‘the right way’ to do something is. At least not by Chris. My whole body is telling me what it prefers to do when I’m not telling it to things ‘my’ way. -- Experiential Learning. -- The beginning for me is to learn to feel breath in my body, to be aware of where it is and how it moves, and what happens to other systems in the body. A new version of learning to rub your tummy while patting your head. -- Collegial and Collaborative.-- I’ve begun to think of lessons with Chris as a series of experiments with comments on results of each step, repeating steps as needed, then again with variations. Chris may be the ‘lead investigator’ guiding the experiments, but as co-experimentor I have the dual role of being the subject and a primary observer (aka ‘student’). I’ve asked Chris to repeat an experiment so I see what it looks like from the outside, and to get a better idea of the process. -- Awake and Aware.-- Or as I’m more used to calling it - mindfulness. I check in with my body several times a day to see what the breath and body systems are doing at that moment and relate it to the lesson and earlier check-ins. There is a (nearly) daily practice session, focused on 1 to 3 points that emerged from the work in the last lesson. ** Though it’s been only a month since I began working with Chris, I find not only chages in vocal qualities, but some of the principles are creeping constructively into other areas of life (including saxophone lessons). - - - When considering the review consider also the reviewer background: Age 59, my last ("real") music lesson (piano) was 51 years ago, and my last music class was in 6th grade (almost 50 years ago, when we played soprano recorders for a few weeks). Truly a beginner!

My daughter Frankie was lucky enough to take voice lessons from Mikaela for about 2 years before she left us Austin! ;) Mikaela is full of energy, has a beautiful voice and worked to get my girl's big voice out of her shy shell. Her lessons are fun, focus mostly on what your child wants to sing but also will push them out of their comfort zone to help them grow. Mikaela also has knowledge of healthy voice techniques and works to train students in this which is so important. I can't recommend her highly enough!!

Madeline Elizondo is the perfect blend of serious diva power and approachable technique. With a wide range of expertise from Funk to Opera, all voices have much to gain through working with her. As a singer of multiple genres, I felt that by receiving classical instruction from Madeline, my voice improved in all categories. I highly recommend taking voice lessons with Ms. Elizondo, you will not regret it!

She is a wonderful teacher. When I had my first lesson I could not tell the difference between a C note and a D note and I was not on pitch. But now that I'm working with Mrs. Becky and using the colorsoundation program I'm going to be in a pageant next month and am going to be singing I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair I can sing almost every note on pitch. This is a great program it has helped me a lot
