Alfonso is an amazing tutor and really helps break down the material. I went through a lot of tutors that didn't explain things very well but then I found him and I've done really well in my math class.

My daughter always seemed to have panic attacks leading up to tests. I was desperate to find a way for her to be comfortable especially as SATs were coming up. All I can say is after a few weeks with the tutors and life coaches at Chelsea International Education, my daughter’s confidence level went up a lot. She was not only prepared to take her SATs but her core academic skills have improved tremendously, which has helped her with her AP exams. The fact that all of the Chelsea tutors are fully qualified teachers, I think makes a major difference and really sets them apart. It really is a quality service and I am very happy to recommend them to anyone.

Ms. Brooks have tutored my daughter for 1 year and we have truly enjoyed her. She is dependable, patient and very supportive. Before meeting Ms. Brooks my daughter would struggle with reading comprehension and did not have confidence to tackle reading assignments which reflected in her reading grades. Since starting tutoring I have seen a drastic improvement in her confidence and her grades. I would highly recommend Ms. Brooks based on the results I am seeing with my daughter. Very Please Parent!!

About

I am a teacher at Mittelstadt Elem. in the Klein ISD District. I work one-on-one with students who are struggling in any subjects. I specialize in the way children learn. All children learn differently. Once I determine how a child learns, I will report back to their teacher with a suggestion/s on how we can get that student to pass without struggling. My motto is every child can learn, and I'll make it fun.

About

I am a college student. I have a passion for math and would love to help students achieve their academic goals. I am enthusiastic about developing strategies that will make the learning process simple and easy.

About

I have over 20 years of experience in teaching mathematics and statistics to students of all levels, including university. My experience really shows in the way I tutor my students as I have seen and mastered almost all types of problems and scenarios. I believe that my role as an educator is not only to inform but also to train students to think both independently and collaboratively and take the knowledge they gain in the classroom and apply it in their lives. I envision my classroom to be one where students actively participate in the learning process with lessons involving interactions not only with their teacher but also with each other. To train the next generation of mathematicians and statisticians, I believe that students must be taught to ask questions and properly employ the logical method to answer them. The engineers, technocrats, social scientists, philosophers and economists of tomorrow must also work in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments to solve real-world problems. Furthermore, priming students for any discipline requires knowing the basic concepts thoroughly with a strong emphasis on technical writing and presentation skills. I believe all of these principles must be employed to prepare the next generation of scientists for their personal careers and for their contributions to the world.

About

As an alumnus of the University of Texas Medical School and a magna cum laude alumnus of Texas Tech, I am a proud Houstonian whose passion is helping K-12 and university-level students in Houston to bring up their scores in varying levels of science and math. I recognize what many tutoring services overlook: each student is different, and not everybody can make an A (although that is always what we strive for); however, my end goal with every student is to raise his score a minimum of one letter grade. Whether you or your student is struggling through a class or just wanting to brush up before a big exam, I offer a personalized plan to achieve success.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions.
