We hired the Movers initially to only pack us for our move but they did such an outstanding job we also hired them to move us and unpack us. There were a few things we wanted to pack ourselves, they delivered boxes and packing supplies a few days prior, which was great. 4 men packed our home and did an excellent and professional job. The value we received for our money was above and beyond what we expected. They are a great company to work with.

I take full responsibility for not having the iron and some dishes ready (dry) for the move. Nevertheless, I would have appreciated if the guys would have brought this fact to my attention instead of just packing the items. I noticed the discrepancy and had the items removed so they could be dried up. (There was a potential for mold growth!)

Giovanni personally came out to my home and gave me a bid the first day I requested movers bids from Thumbtack. He was professional, thorough, and gave me a very fair bid. His movers arrived on time on day of move and did an incredible job of packing and loading the moving van. At the opther end of the move, they were extremely helpful, quick, and careful with my belongings. They unloaded and placed everything perfectly for me. I really appreciate the job these young men did, and the courtesy they showed during their work.Thank you Giovanni and your employees for making what could have been a stressful moving day go so smooth and stress free. I would highly recommend New Concept Moving and Storage to anyone looking to hire a moving company that is everything they advertise and more! John Jastremsky

I was moving from Seattle, WA to SLC, UT. I had called around to various companies for quotes on moving fees and etc. I was referred to M&K professionals by a friend of mine. I found their fees to be the most reasonable, they were very professional and were able to move my belongings in a timely manner. It was very helpful for my family and I to know that our personal belongings were well taken care of. They worked quickly and were able to adjust their schedules, despite all the plans that had to be changed. When we had moved into our new home, we had seen that there were some home improvements that needed to be done. Our sprinkler system was not working, windows letting in warm air and the basement needed some repair. I was fortunate to have them help us with things that needed to be fixed and their bid was reasonable. The had their own tools and equipment and were pretty knowledgeable. I would highly recommend them for home improvement services and even moving services. Thanks guys for your hard work!

Mike and his guys were very professional, he even brought me some packing materials. His prices were better than any other moving company I looked at here in Utah. I don't know of any moving company that would take the time to drive up and bring you packing materials. They were very fast and did not damage anything in the process. I am very impressed with Wasatch Premier Movers and would recommend them to anyone.

Luz came on time and did an amazing job! Not only did I have her clean but I also had her do some packing for my move this weekend. I am so grateful she was willing to help out as I am super busy and my husband just had surgery. I plan on hiring her again and couldn't be more pleased with her services! Thank you Luz for doing such a great job and coming on such short notice.

You can only work with the company if you trust them. I used to say that it is always better to do things myself. But after I saw what the company did, I know that other people can do a great job as well. It was fantastic and I was free because the movers did everything for me. They do the planning and packing and transporting. And they leave the place clean and you don’t have to spend another several hours cleaning everything up after them.

I found Thumbtack by accident when looking for packing quotes for an international move, I received a few quotes and went with another company. Long story short, that other company screwed me over big time and I scrambled to find someone to help me pack my townhome with two days notice. Susan's warmth in her e-mail was what encouraged me to give Clutter Cutters a call. She answered the phone immediately and after a brief conversation of my needs happily scheduled a time on a weekend to come pack my townhome. I had a wide range of items from a TV, dishware, items with sentimental value, and even clothing. Susan and her team arrived promptly with all the packing supplies requested. They were so accommodating as I was still pulling items out of closets as they began work. They catered to every customized request with enthusiasm and professionalism. They were so friendly, and the inventories they provided on the boxes made filling out custom forms a breeze. When we got to the end of the packing process we chatted a bit and they offered solutions to many problems I was still facing with my move, including donating my leftover items and some shipping challenges. They pointed me to some people they had used in the past, and when I called them, they matched Clutter Cutters enthusiasm and passion to meet my needs as a client. Clutter Cutters may not be the largest operation in Salt Lake or show up at the top of your Thumbtack search, but I promise you: Clutter Cutters is the best value for the job, and the team can't be beat. Skip the big guy, I know I'm glad I did! Thanks Susan and Team Clutter Cutters!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
