I hired Ted 100% because of the reviews he had. I had over 4 different people/companies bid out the project to replace our 50 gal with a 75 gal water heater. They were all about the same price so i went with Ted. He seemed to know what he was doing and has a lot of experience. I can say I'm glad I hired him. He did a really great job and cares about his business relationship with you so I feel confident if anything is wrong he will fix it. He was quick and to the point not necessarily a talkative guy he just likes to get in there and get the job done for you and do a good job.

Great company to work with. Our home me is over 100 years old located in Sugarhouse. They did a fantastic job helping us understand what issues we were having and how to economically deal with them. They installed a reverse osmosis machine, a dishwasher hooked up a gas stove, put an expansion tank on the hot water heater and installed a pressure valve. All very a very reasonable price. They were very professional, cleaned up after their work and were nice to speak with while they worked. Will definitely hire again.

We had such a great experience with Expert Plumbing, Heating, and Air. From the beginning of booking the appointment and how fast they were able to come and take care of our water heater. They were on time and gave us all our options to fix the issue we were having instead of upselling me on unnecessary things. The respect this company has for you is so great because as a new homeowner we don't always know what is best or right but the amount of information that they give you makes you feel confident in the product you are getting and value from this company. Allen was so great. He called us before both appointments and even showed up early for our first appointment. He made sure that the work was done in a timely manner and that all our questions were answered before and after he completed the work. When Allen and Spencer came to install our new water heater there were quick and efficient in completing the work in a timely manner so that we could get hot water back in our home. The fact that this company has such great, honest, hard working people will make me want to use them again and again. Thank you for such a great experience Expert Plumbing, Heating, and Air. I look forward to working with you again.

Thank you Edgar. He was quick to respond and showed up when he said he would. He went above what was expected to make sure everything was good with my home - he also noticed a loose nut on my water heater and tightened it for me.

Greg and his team were amazing. Hands down the best option for plumbing, water heater, etc. needs. Great price, best I could see. They also include a 2 year labor warranty which most other companies don't. I posted on Thumbtack at midnight, and he was the first to place a bid. By 2:00 the next day I had a new water heater fully functioning. What is more, the worker slightly nicked the door trim when putting in the new heater. Not only did he apologize over and over, he pulled out $25 cash of his own money to pay to fix it. Truly a great experience with High Point plumbing. Spread the word - this is the company to use!

I had a water heater issue and the original person I brought out to give me an estimate was almost 3x more than these guys. The only reason why I didn't end up going with them was a scheduling issue but they were on the ball, kind and understanding of our situation. I'd definitely recommend them just on our phone conversation.

I have worked with Kore Investments on several home improvement projects. In this case they replaced 2 old doors with new ones. We live in an older home without standard door sizes. They did a professional job in manually cutting and fitting the doors. They look like they were custom made for our 1941 home. They were quick and efficient from quote to invoice. I would highly recommend Kore Investments to anyone looking to do a home improvement or maintenance project. They've done everything from updating electrical, replacing windows with doors, installing a water heater, and now replacing 2 exterior doors. The knowledge and expertise of Matt LeMelle and his team is extensive. There is no home project I wouldn't consult and hire them for.

I'm so glad Connectionz helped us stay warm this winter. I also learned that we won't freeze for one or two days. Boil water to keep your house warm. We were at 63 when we realized of our problem. We boiled water and brought it up to 69. It took two (three with the humidifier and AC) days to fix the problem anyways We can take our time and make sure we really compare with others. This is a very hard working team. They work well together, which helps immensely for a family business. They look out for each other. They are kind, young, knowledgeable and full of energy. It comes so easy for them to explain how appliances would work and how things will turn out. It helps to make you feel confident to make the decision of accepting their offer. Though, we think too much excitement of words, should be matched in the receipt. We got a good deal, we hope (we didn't take time to compare) and we're thankful! Sometimes I think we could negotiate with the appliances we had, that were still in relatively good shape, even just for the metal. Because we had the impression that the new appliances would be the same brand. We were told if we don't like it, they would take everything away. But then, now that we think about it, how could that be? How would they leave our place? Where are our appliances? How would they really fix it? We may be expending more in utilities, but we'll see. I asked a question about our new water heater also, but they said it was o.k. Fortunately, everything seems to be working fine and probably that's how they give their warranty. These men are good and have great principles. We could not believe how easily it was to connect with them right away. We hope they hold on to that and don't jeopardize it with all the jobs they joggle. It may matter the number of jobs they take a day for now, though quality and keeping firm to their principles and quality will help them gain even more in the long run; that's their best investment. No need to used up all the hours in the day, save some time and energy for family. We're older and we hope they take this advise which we give heartily. We thank them again and we'll see them when we need to start our new AC.

I called on Thanksgiving night after coming home to a water heater that was leaking everywhere and we had no hot water. I called around 10pm and he was willing to walk me through steps to complete so it would stop leaking. He was able to come first thing the next morning and was efficient and professional. He went the extra mile to explain what exactly was wrong and what he was doing to fix it. He got the leak to stop and was able to turn our hot water back on quickly! Very happy with his service and will definitely be calling him for future repairs!

Replaced water heater that was more than 14 years old. I got a few estimates and the companies that I spoke with didn't give me the full price of exactly what needed to be done. I had to call them back and double check and the prices had increased by $500-600. When I spoke with Budget Plumbing they were very honest and upfront with the total cost. And I upgraded to a 50 gal water heater from a 40 gal. It took longer than expected but it was ok. They wanted to make sure they were doing a great job. The technician that came to my house was very friendly and clean. I'll definitely hire them again for future needs. Great communication!!!! And fast replies!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

When is it time to replace a water heater?

Although regular water heater maintenance and water heater repair may extend the life of your hot water heater, it won’t last forever. Most water heaters have a life expectancy of about 10 years. Many water heaters need to be replaced when they’re 8-12 years old — that’s when they start to show signs of fatal wear, such as leaking around the base of the tank. A water heater should be replaced when it fails to sufficiently heat water for the home; if your heater is operating erratically, check first for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker to make sure an electrical issue isn’t causing the problem. Another time to replace a water heater is when you want to upgrade to either a larger model or a more energy-efficient one.

Who can fix a water heater?

When a water heater stops running effectively, it’s best to hire a water heater repair professional to troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s a plumbing company that offers water heater repair services or a provider specializing in water heater repair and maintenance, most repair companies offer same-day service as well as weekend and after-hours emergency calls. Usually, water heater repair professionals are experts in both electric and gas systems, as well as tank and tankless heaters, and can repair any kind of unit.

Why is my hot water not working?

The most common complaint among homeowners is that their hot water isn’t working — and the water heater is generally the culprit. Typically, it isn’t making the water as hot as you’d like it to be. When the water isn’t hot enough — or isn’t hot at all — run through this troubleshooting checklist for basic water heater repair tasks:

  • Make sure the power is connected to the heater, then reset the thermostat.
  • If it’s a gas water heater, make sure the pilot light is lit.
  • Raise the temperature setting on the thermostat.

If these stops don’t lead to hot water, it’s time to either check the heating element in an electric water heater or the burner unit and gas control valve in a gas-powered heater. A water heater repair and maintenance company can handle these repair jobs. However, if your hot water heater is eight years or older, it may be time to replace the water heater instead of repairing it.

How much do new water heaters cost?

The cost of a new water heater depends largely on the type and size of the heater. The average national cost for a new water heater installation including a 40- to 50-gallon tank is $350-$780. Most homes don’t need larger tanks, but they are available — for a price. The average difference between a 50-gallon tank and a 75-gallon tank (the next most common size) ranges from $400 to $600. Hundred-gallon tanks are also available, and they can cost double or triple the price of a 50-gallon tank from the same manufacturer. New water heaters tend to be far more energy-efficient, so they can cut energy costs; homeowners may also be eligible for a new water heater rebate from their local utility company.

Typically, tankless water heaters, which heat water only when you need it, cost more but can save about 25 percent of annual water heating costs, on average. They also lose only 5 percent of their energy compared with a tank unit’s 30 percent energy loss. Note, too, that a water heater with a tank has a life expectancy of 10 years, while tankless units generally last about twice as long.

The final expense to consider is a possible disposal fee to get rid of the old water heater; some companies include it in the price, while others charge an average of $35-$150.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
