Ted did a fantastic job installing a new furnace and central air. The price was very reasonable and Ted didn't try and "upsell" us on things we didn't need. After having several HVAC contractors come in and try and sell us a system we didn't need, it was refreshing to have Ted's no nonsense approach. We will be calling him again for future projects.

Everything was installed as quoted and is working great with an affordable price. Quoted for 2 day install which only took them one day to complete and test. Provided me with great advice with other things I could do to have my HVAC system run more efficiently as well. I highly recommend Heavenly Heating and Cooling for HVAC system installs.

Unfortunately, the company that stated I needed a replacement was completely making up facts. Monarch Heating and Air went through my system and discussed what we should see to point out that everything was fine. The previous company even used a scare tactic of carbon monoxide leaks and they had me sign a waiver indicating that they couldn't turn it back on. He asked what the levels were and I indicated that I didn't think to ask. He tested my air and everything was fine. Luckily Monarch came out to look at everything and saved me thousand for replacing equipment prematurely! They were even the last to come and give me a quote on the new system. None of the other companies questioned the discrepancies of what I was telling them and the new-ish system (8 yrs) they were looking at. Thank you so very much Monarch for helping me out. If you want HONEST... call Monarch! If you want to learn about your system... call Monarch. Basically, I now trust Monarch over companies that take advantage of someone as clueless as me.

Great company to work with. Our home me is over 100 years old located in Sugarhouse. They did a fantastic job helping us understand what issues we were having and how to economically deal with them. They installed a reverse osmosis machine, a dishwasher hooked up a gas stove, put an expansion tank on the hot water heater and installed a pressure valve. All very a very reasonable price. They were very professional, cleaned up after their work and were nice to speak with while they worked. Will definitely hire again.

I had an Aprilaire humidifier installed on our furnace. Boyd was very professional and trustworthy. He has a nice family business, and was accommodating to our schedule. We also had him do a furnace cleaning and inspection, as well as check our A/C coolant levels. Great work!

Greg, you I am impressed by you knowledge and the time you took to help me and my husband out to get a new furnace installed during this busy season. Our tenants in our rental property are warm and happy! We will for sure be using you when we have to have the central air and furnace replaced in our home when the time comes. Not often you find a company that truly wants to help people and charge them a reasonable price. You saved us over a $1000! Thank you! -Jeramiah & Shantel Jenkins

We came home from our vacation in 100F and learned that our AC was a block of ice. I put a request for a HVAC service company and Dan's office sent a txt and followed up with a phone call within 10min. Dan came out to evaluate the situation the very next day, Saturday at 8 sharp, the time he said he would be at our house. Our unit was old and was not the right size for our house. He recommended a new HVAC system that he started the same afternoon throughout the night. He continued working on the install in person and brought his crew in to support the install. Any questions we had via txt or phone were replied to right away. Great communication between Dan and my husband and I. Would highly recommend Connectionz Plumbin Heating & Air.

John from Salmon Heating was very professional. Told us to call the company that sold us our unit because the part in question should be under warranty. Also taught us how to check to make sure we are not leaking fr-eon. Refreshing to find a company with integrity! I also called him while the original company was in my home to ask him if they were charging us too much. He was very helpful. I will cal them for annual service or any AC/heating needs in the future.

Wayne and his crew were fantastic! He got me in really quick. He beat the competitors prices. His tech guy was very nice and helpful. He gave me a bid and stuck to it. Didn't try to sale me on anything else. He even left me with some extra filters for my furnace. They did a good job of protecting my floors and cleaning up after themselves. I would absolutely recommend them and use them again. It was a great experience! Especially after the other companies I have tried to work with that were awful.

Our furnace blower had failed and we called Air Design to service the furnace. Russ let us know our options for repairing or replacing the furnace. Due to the age of our furnace it made more sense to replace the furnace with a high efficiency furnace. Russ' crew did the job in 1 day, had all of parts and equipment needed to do the job right. Even though our furnace room is very small, they were able to do a very clean and quality installation.

Brandon did a wonderful job installing a new High Effeciency furnace and new central A/C system! He uses only Lennox equipment, which holds the highest ratings for durability, functionality, and longevity. His work is very clean and precise, and he took great measures to not disrupt the integrity of the walls/ceiling more than was absolutely necessary. While he was installing the HVAC system, he noticed some building code issues with my hot water heater and fixed them on the spot at no additional cost. Quality, knowledgeable, honest contractors are a very rare thing anymore, but Brandon is certainly all three. I can not recommend him highly enough!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

    • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
    • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
    • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
    • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
    • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
    • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
    • Cleaning and oiling the blower
    • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
    • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
    • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

    • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
      • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
    • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
    • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
    • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000
