Kalua came out quickly to give me a bid for removing 4 trees in my yard. He worked quickly to get them removed and did a great job cleaning up. Aside from some sawdust there was no evidence of the tree removal process. He is coming back in a few days to grind the stumps down as well. Very pleased with the service

We used Neil's tree service to trim a tree in our backyard. We got estimates from several companies. We had one company tell us to remove the tree for $1800! I almost gave up the trimming the tree, until we found Neil. He was very professional ,gave us common sense options, very knowledgeable. We will definitely use Neil's tree service again. I recommend you call Neil's before any other tree maintenance company .

Ivy had taken possession of my front flowerbed and rock wall, and I needed some serious help to take back my rock wall. Tony Nieto contacted me in response to my Thumbtack post and we scheduled a time to meet. Tony was amiable, agreed to meet at a time that was convenient for me, and showed up right on time. He gave me an estimate on a few projects, I decided on the most pressing (ivy removal), and we scheduled a time. We had set an afternoon/evening time. That day, he texted me to let me know how his schedule was progressing, and confirmed when he'd be here. Again, he showed up when he said he would, got right to work, and showed the ivy who was boss. I was impressed with how thorough he was and that he was willing to come back and fix anything I wasn't completely happy with. His prices weren't cheap, but they were comparable to market rates, so certainly not unreasonable--and with how easy he was to work with, I'm satisfied that I got my money's worth. I plan on hiring him again for other projects.

HGO landscaping removed about 850 sq.ft of sod in preparation for flower beds. They also tilled and leveled the soil after sod removal, as well as, leveling a horrible dirt patch in preparation for a fire pit and flowerbed. They made beautiful rolling flowerbed edges to add aesthetics to our design. Finally, HGO landscaping re-positioned/routed and adjusted our entire irrigation system to accommodate the new design. He installed a few new sprinkler heads only because the old ones were toast. I watched him try to make it work before he just arbitrarily swapped them out. I thought my system was watering fine; I was wrong. After watching the final product, wow, what a difference! They're honest, hard-working, no hidden fees, amazing pricing, and their work is awesome! They'll be my first call for my next landscaping project, or yard maintenance. They received my wife's stamp of approval. :)

Marcus helped me with my annual "fall cleanup" of the yard. I have a quarter acre lot with about 50% of that bordered with flower beds and shrubs. It involved lots of weeding in rocky flower beds, shrub trimming, and removal of a couple of small trees. He really transformed the yard and left little to no debris. I left a lot of the specifics how things should look up to him and was pleased with how it turned out. The price was fair, and the day of service, I was surprised that he and his crew were able was able to finish everything so quickly. I had definitely expected it to take longer. I am seriously considering having Marcus come back on a recurring basis so that things look this good all the time.

Brian from Bluesky was a joy to work with. He was on-time, on-schedule, and on-budget. He guarantees his work and even changed out a tree that was planted 3 times because we didn't like the way it looked. We overhauled our entire yard including taking out well-established trees that were overgrown against the house, and putting in lovely pathways that lead your eye and interest around the property. We were so happy with his work, service, and attention to detail we have signed up for maintenance plans on several other properties.

We relied on JV Landscaping for cleaning our flower beds, performing general yard maintenance, and fixing the mistakes made by a previous sprinkler company when we lived in Salt Lake City. After we moved from Utah, JV Landscaping continued to maintain the yard and handled snow removal in the winter months until our house was sold. JV Landscaping also replaced our old sprinkler timer when a power surge caused it to fail to shut off. The owner, Joel, quickly replaced the old timer with a better one and did so for a reasonable price. Joel has always been trustworthy and diligent.

We hired G&M Landscape & Tree Service to clear out our .25 acre lot and install about 5600 sq ft of sod. They even took down an old outbuilding we had wanted gone, and we feel we got a great deal for the money spent. We had several sprinkler lines installed and trees cut down, and our property looks a million times better for it. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because the punctuality was not always there, and the responsiveness disappeared once we paid the final payment. We had been promised all of the sprinkler lines would be installed and finished, but one remains forgotten and they weren't able to get to it before our agricultural water was shut off in the Fall. There were a few trees that were to be trimmed, and odds and ends that never were completed despite their being promised. Our hope is that Jerson will not forget us in the spring when the water gets turned back on, and that they will complete the remaining sprinkler line as promised. When we engaged G&M initially, everything was clear and on paper and we felt good about it. Once we began the prep for sod installation, things got a little frustrating with bad communication and they tried to make up for it by pushing hard over the final weekend to complete the sod installation, which they did - and did well. He has a very solid, hard-working team. They seemed to have finished on a Sunday, and asked to be paid, which after walking around and showing me most of the finished product, we agreed to do. It wasn't until after this rushed decision that we came across the unfinished items..but unfortunately it seems that once we'd paid, we were forgotten and ignored. I tried reaching out several times over the next few weeks, but received no response. Overall, we are content with the product, aside from the remaining work to be done. Given the amount of work and money that was exchanged, I had hoped for better communication, but the bang for my buck can't really be much better.

Sam did an awesome job. He was very quick (3 weeks from first bid to project completion). Best thing was his communication was excellent. It's hard to get someone who communicates well and often and Sam was great. The only knock I'd have is that there were some spots where cleanup wasn't the best (spilled concrete on the lawn in a few places). Overall a great experience and I'd recommend him to anyone. I'd use him again for sure.

I am thrilled with the job they did on June 24th. We had trees and bushes trimmed. They did a lot of work, and cleaned up the mess of all of the trimmings. My neighbor saw them working, and the great job they were doing, and asked them if they would trim one of her trees while they were over at my house. Our yard is kind of massive with trees and bushes, and they did a great job on everything I asked them to do. I will be hiring them again.

I would recommend them to anyone. Everything turned out beautifully and we love our new kitchen.

We woke up one morning to our old apple tree having been blown over in a windstorm. I quickly took to Thumbtack hoping to find someone who could take care of the tree ASAP. I had several responses, but Mark seemed like the best option. He was quick to respond and was able to come and remove the tree that afternoon. He also removed another tree of ours that was dying, as well as trim several dead branches off of some of our other trees. He was friendly, professional, efficient, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced. I was very happy with my experience and would highly recommend The Singing Arborist.

Very happy with the tree removal service! They also cleared out a medium sized flowerbed while they were here. Very good value, he gave a good estimate and they nailed the timeframe. They also recognized what kind of tree I had and knew how best to deal with it to avoid future problems. Super happy with the work, will definitely contact again when I need help in the future

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
