Should you tip piano tuners?

Tipping piano tuners isn’t customary. If you had a great experience with a piano tuner, you can also show your appreciation by leaving a review on Thumbtack.

What happens if you don't tune a piano?

Tunings can help prevent damage and maintain your piano. When you tune your piano, you’re correcting its pitch. So if you go too long without tuning your piano, the pitch will likely drop — which can add tension to your piano’s structure, according to the Piano Technicians Guild.

Is piano tuning hard?

Tuning a piano can be difficult if you haven’t done it before and don’t have the correct tools. For example, you’ll need a piano tuning lever, tips, electronic chromatic tuner and mutes. If you don’t have the tools or experience, you might be better off hiring a professional to tune your piano.

How long does piano tuning take?

Tuning your piano might take a few hours or less. Before your appointment, ask your piano tuner how long the process will take.

Is it worth tuning an old piano?

It may be worth tuning your old piano, especially if it’s highly valued or has sentimental value. Bring your piano to an expert piano tuner. They can assess your instrument and help you determine if it can be restored.

Why do my piano keys squeak?

If your piano keys are squeaking, it may be because something is stuck between the keys. Or, your piano may be dirty. You may be able to fix your keys. If not, hire a professional to take a look at the problem and perform the repairs.

How often should you tune a piano?

Some experts recommend tuning your piano at least two or four times a year, according to the Piano Technicians Guild. You should always see what the manufacturer recommends for your specific piano. And you should schedule additional tunings as needed.

He is a kind person. He was running late and called me to tell me he would be here at 5:30 PM instead of 5. No big deal to me. Then he showed up at 5 minutes to 6 without any warning. He used the bathroom and was in there almost 15 minutes, answered his phone while working, having a conversation. He left here at 7pm. Not much time actually tuning the piano. He got very defensive when I mentioned that my experience with tuners is that they take a longer time to tune. I paid in cash and asked for a receipt. He said that he doesn't do receipts. I asked him to at least write something down to show as a transaction. He was very upset that he had to do that. I just wanted a tuned piano without much hassle.
