I received a quick response from ProCareMan. They arrived the next day as agreed, surveyed what I needed to have done and provided a reasonable quote. The electrical work was completed the same day. A couple of needed electrical upgrades were recommended and also completed the same day. They were also able to save me money regarding the upgrades. I'd hire ProCareMan for my electrical, plumbing needs and any other services they can provide.

I'm very pleased with the service. He came over and told me how much it would be. He also suggested some things I should look into doing in the near future. But, he never forced me in any direction. I also am not very knowledgeable when it comes to plumbing. So, he went with me to the store to make sure I was only choosing from things that would work with my current setup. I would use Ted's Heating and Air for plumbing again.

Nate did an awesome job for a fair price. He was friendly, professional and fast. The job site was left clean and organized, and like I said, he did a great job with the actual job itself. We would highly recommend him for your next plumbing job!

Brock was absolutely above and beyond our expectations. We had many small jobs to be done ranging from plumbing, major woodwork repair, cleaning items and maintenance plus a problem job which he came up with an idea to fix it. He was always letting us know what he was doing, He was prompt, he was friendly and professional. He completed our jobs and some extra things in a timely manner. We will go with Cranston again because of Brock. A mention to Jack. Jack was friendly and professional. His responses were what made us chose Cranston. Thanks to Brock for his positive and hardworking attitude. We will call you again. Soon. Luana Chilelli

We have used Daniel several times for a variety of projects, small and large, from plumbing to carpentry to decor to fixing another craftsman's mistakes. His price is in the upper range for this location and time. However, his work is worth every penny if any of the others that we tried were worth half what they charged. He is punctual, polite, and always upbeat. He knows what he knows and what he doesn't know he finds out so he gets the job right. Best of all he communicates well and is 100% trustworthy.

Brent helped us restore our bathroom after it was flooded. He put in new drywall– painted and textured it. He also installed a new vanity, hooked up all of our plumbing, and put the toilet back in place. My son was very interested in "helping" (aka getting in the way), but Brent was very kind and let him feel like he was a part of the process.

My job had some unexpected problems crop up from other plumbing work that was done previously. Leroy stayed on my job until 11:30 pm to make sure my tenants had hot water. He went above and beyond what a run of the mill guy would do. He is a good one!!!

Our water heater went out and thumbtack referred us to Murray Plumbing, and he called us right away. We told him the situation and he gave us his best quote over the phone. We contacted same day and Home Depot and their bids were hundreds of dollars more, so we went with Murray. We had already been without hot water for 2 days, and Matt went out of his way to work late and came the same day. We found him to be pleasant, helpful, honest and fair. He did a great job. I would definitely use him again, and recommend him to friends and family.

When we hired Jason at Building Pros, we only intended him to complete some drywall repairs we needed done in a rental unit. However, as additional needs arose, we soon discovered Jason to be skilled in many different areas and had him complete not only the drywall repair, but door frame replacement, baseboard removal and installation, window repair, hvac assessment, plumbing repairs and several other miscellaneous jobs we needed done. Jason and his team have been incredibly efficient and professional and we look forward to maintaining a long term working relationship with Building Pros.

Finished out my basement. Over all an excellent transaction. The job was finished for around what was bid despite some complications with the plumbing. The job took a little longer than anticipated, but only because of the previously mentioned complications.

I was looking for someone with a lot of experience as water was getting into my basement and I didn't know how. I have had other plumbers come out and be unsuccessful in finding the problem, but they still charge for the visit. But Gilbert came out and quickly figured out the problem and then fixed it - for even less than his original bid. My wife said he was very punctual, very friendly, and very honest. I will be calling Gilbert for my plumbing needs from now on.

They came and installed a new water heater in my basement and it was a great experience. I went with the tankless water heater option and it works great, so I'm happy with the instillation and the product they ordered for me. Also, the plumber was on time, very nice to deal with, and I had a good understanding of what it would cost before I agreed. Also, I'm not home until after 4, so it was great that they were able to send someone out on my schedule. Overall, it was a really good experience.

In all honesty if I could give Montag Maintenance Six stars I would. I have worked with a lot of different contractors and these guys are the best! The arrive when they say they will. The job is done when they say it will be. And above all that they are fair and honest. They have just finished a large job for me and everything was done to a level of perfection. Several times they went above and beyond the call of duty for us. We needed a tub for the job and they were out of stock all over town. Aaron went out of his way to hunt one down in Ogden and then drove up there to pick it up! One thing that really impressed me was that when they were done the construction site looked better than when they started! You can't say that about very many contractors. If you need a plumber hire these guys! You won't be dissappointed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

  • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
  • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
  • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
  • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
  • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

Why is the water in my house not getting hot?

If the water in your house is not getting hot, it may be time for water heater repair. Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400, depending on the problem and materials. Competent homeowners may also be able to try DIY fixes, whether they have a traditional gas or electric water heater or a tankless gas or electric heater. Troubleshooting the different issues that can arise with each of the styles requires some knowledge of how they operate and what red flags to look out for. For a natural gas water heater, the first step is to check whether the pilot light has gone out. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions if you want to relight it yourself. If you smell gas, stop everything and call your gas company — the smell could signal a dangerous gas leak. If your household’s water is not getting hot enough, you can try increasing the temperature on the water heater’s front dial above the standard setting of 120 degrees; for safety, always turn off electricity to the unit before adjusting temperatures. If you keep running out of hot water, your household may simply need a higher-capacity water heater, so consider upgrading. Quick professional fixes include replacing the thermostat or heating elements and cleaning and repairing the thermocouple.

How much does it cost to fix a hot water heater?

Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400 or more. Water heater repair costs will depend on the type of water heater you have (tankless, electric, natural gas, etc.), the source of the problem, the cost for new parts, and labor rates in your area. Common water heater issues include problems with the thermocouple, thermostat, heating element and leaks. Most standard electric water heaters have two thermostats and two elements. One example for the cost to replace a bad thermostat is $185 for parts and labor. Replacing both the thermostat and the heating element could cost approximately $150-$200. The thermocouple is a safety device that senses when the pilot light is burning and signals the gas valve to close if the pilot light goes out. If your thermocouple is bad or corroded, the average cost to clean and repair it could be between $350 and $400. If your water heater has started to leak, it is usually more cost-effective to invest in a new water heater than to repair it, unless you’re covered by a warranty.

How much does it cost to install a tankless hot water heater?

Tankless water heaters usually cost more to install than traditional tanks, because many homes need to be retrofitted to accommodate the new system. Tankless electric water heaters retail on average between $150 and $1,200, and tankless natural gas water heaters retail between $200 and $1,300 on average. The lower prices ($150-$250) are generally for point-of-use tankless heaters that can be installed to boost hot water in high-demand areas such as the bathroom or kitchen sink. Tankless water heaters designed to heat whole homes usually start under $300 at the low end and go up to $1,400 or more. Pricing for whole-home varies with the heater’s technology and features. Nationally, standard water heater installation costs average $360-$780, but tankless water heater installation costs may range from $400 to $1,000, depending on the work needed. Some perks of tankless water heaters are that they have nearly double the life expectancy of traditional water heaters and are generally more cost-efficient. Homeowners may be able to save $100 or more per year on their utility bills with an Energy Star approved tankless heater, depending on how much hot water they use.
