Had a water pressure gauge on our main water line and two shut off valves installed on our water heater at our home. The service and professionalism was top notch. We ran into some issues with our main water line due to the way the house was originally plumbed. I let them know and they were over the next day to check out the issue. They came back to the house and strapped down the pipe at no extra charge. They really know how to create lifetime customers who will come back for any repairs or upgrades needed. Saying thank you wouldn't be enough. Hire, Hire, Hire! You will not be let down.

Ted was great to work with. He was prompt in responding and quick in figuring out what needed to be done with adding an extra gas line, including verifying with Questar that we had a gas line adequate to supply gas to a new stove. I would use him again!

He did an excellent job at getting our heater fixed. We got a few quotes before Monarch came out and they got it fixed for the quarter of the price and we haven't had any problems since. I appreciate that he took time to educate us and to be 100% honest with us.

Cody installed a humidifier and a high quality air filter. His price was far less than his competitors and the quality of work was better. In addition, he fixed my gas fireplace and heater sensor for no charge. He is a hard worker, highly experienced and conscientious. I will continue to use Heavenly Heating and Cooling as long as I live in Utah. I recommend him to all my friends (and I am incredibly fussy!). I give Cody two thumbs way up👍🏻👍🏻!!!!!

Great company to work with. Our home me is over 100 years old located in Sugarhouse. They did a fantastic job helping us understand what issues we were having and how to economically deal with them. They installed a reverse osmosis machine, a dishwasher hooked up a gas stove, put an expansion tank on the hot water heater and installed a pressure valve. All very a very reasonable price. They were very professional, cleaned up after their work and were nice to speak with while they worked. Will definitely hire again.

We had such a great experience with Expert Plumbing, Heating, and Air. From the beginning of booking the appointment and how fast they were able to come and take care of our water heater. They were on time and gave us all our options to fix the issue we were having instead of upselling me on unnecessary things. The respect this company has for you is so great because as a new homeowner we don't always know what is best or right but the amount of information that they give you makes you feel confident in the product you are getting and value from this company. Allen was so great. He called us before both appointments and even showed up early for our first appointment. He made sure that the work was done in a timely manner and that all our questions were answered before and after he completed the work. When Allen and Spencer came to install our new water heater there were quick and efficient in completing the work in a timely manner so that we could get hot water back in our home. The fact that this company has such great, honest, hard working people will make me want to use them again and again. Thank you for such a great experience Expert Plumbing, Heating, and Air. I look forward to working with you again.

I had a leaky water heater. The pressure valve had been replaced once and I thought I needed a new water heater. Angelo reduced the water pressure to my house and installed a new valve. Problem solved for $40. He was at my house within 30 minutes of the first contact. I will be hiring him again for help.

Greg and his team were amazing. Hands down the best option for plumbing, water heater, etc. needs. Great price, best I could see. They also include a 2 year labor warranty which most other companies don't. I posted on Thumbtack at midnight, and he was the first to place a bid. By 2:00 the next day I had a new water heater fully functioning. What is more, the worker slightly nicked the door trim when putting in the new heater. Not only did he apologize over and over, he pulled out $25 cash of his own money to pay to fix it. Truly a great experience with High Point plumbing. Spread the word - this is the company to use!

At 10:30p I had no hot water so I went into the basement to look @ my water heater. Water was pouring out of it. I got on Thumbtack and Skyler promptly called me. He listened to what my issue was; he had me take pictures so he could see what the problem was and where it was; and even offered to come to my home right then! He came to my home @ 7:00a the next morning and took care of my water heater. Skyler's communication with me throughout the morning was great. He found me the exact water heater than I wanted; installed it and did a fantastic hob of cleaning up. His team even went above & beyond and strapped down some other equipment in my basement. I would highly recommend Xtreme Temp Control!

I’m really happy with the work from josh with quantum hvac, he retrofit a furnace, coil, and new water heater in my home. Josh informed me we had to cut a hole in the drywall But he was quick to call and have the hole patched. As well he stayed late to finish to make sure me and my family were comfortable.

My hot water heater was replaced. The workers were do polite and professional. The water heater is down stairs and the stairs have a weird turn they were careful not to bump the walls or cause any damage when removing the old tank and bringing in the new one. They left the work area spotless and did the job in such a short time I hardly knew they were there. Thank you for your professionalism. I would recommend them highly.

We were very happy with the service that we received. The only problem was when the salesman came by. There were two of them. One of them refused to understand that we had a limited time that we could meet with them. He wanted to keep telling us how the service that we would receive from Sears could't be beat. I had to tell him three times that we were interested in the product and the price. We did buy the furnace and the AC from Sears. The installers were very professional. They showed up when promised. They did an excellent job of cleaning up after themselves. We were promised some shop your way points based on the purchase. It has been almost three months since we were to get those points. We still have not received the points. They were valued at over $800 dollars. While the opportunity to receive the points did not affect our purchase decision. It is very frustrating. I have called Sears on at least ten occasions. They say that there is nothing they can do. I have called the installer. They said that it was a problem on their end. That they would get it taken care of immediately. It has been four weeks.

I have used Welch Heating since 1998 and still only hire them. Throughout this time I have had several homes. Gas lines done, 2 A/C's and 3 Furnaces's purchased and flue's redone, electronic air filters and home humidifiers. They are excellent. Their staff has stayed the same since I've been using them! That tells me the employee's are happy as well and are treated right. The quality of work and maintenance is impeccable and their advice. I have never had an issue with them and trust them.

Brett responded quickly to my inquiry and when he came out to do a bid I didn’t know exactly what I needed yet... He took the extra time to write up 3 completely separate bids so I would have all the information right in front of me. We ended up going with a new furnace/AC and lots of extra ducting. He kept me informed the entire time of what was happening, options of upgrades (but never pressured an “upsale”) and when the project would be completed. We were so happy, we’ve already had Brett back out to bid a new gas insert fireplace! Thx Brett and Total Air Solutions!!

They were the only ones that would come out and look at my furnace right away. They did a good job installing my furnace and even though they couldn't do it the next day they lent me a heater. They also stuck by their estimate.

Brandon did a wonderful job installing a new High Effeciency furnace and new central A/C system! He uses only Lennox equipment, which holds the highest ratings for durability, functionality, and longevity. His work is very clean and precise, and he took great measures to not disrupt the integrity of the walls/ceiling more than was absolutely necessary. While he was installing the HVAC system, he noticed some building code issues with my hot water heater and fixed them on the spot at no additional cost. Quality, knowledgeable, honest contractors are a very rare thing anymore, but Brandon is certainly all three. I can not recommend him highly enough!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

    • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
    • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
    • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
    • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
    • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
    • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
    • Cleaning and oiling the blower
    • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
    • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
    • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace serviced?

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

    • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
    • The temperature cannot be regulated.
    • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
    • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
    • The thermostat isn’t working.
    • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
