Wow...many great words to explain my experience with EBRR and MR. ED BILO PROS - BELOW 1. initial call - quick 2. beyond excellent customer service other contractors would never would calls. 3. very humble and explained all services while I was on the phone for OVER 30 minutes. 4) Knoledgable about industry and the best practices for the cleaning that needed to be done. 5) His site supervisors made sure I was happy at all costs. CONS 1. absolutely nothing! I have used thumbtack multiples times for our house projects and I couldn't believe how of an easy experience it was..he even allowed credit card payments over the phone. All of here thank you ED & your team

EES came out to clean our gutters but after looking at them, he told us our gutters didn't need to be cleaned (despite two other contractors recommending we needed cleaning). I appreciate his time and honesty. Jose was on time and friendly despite making an hour drive up to our house. I hope to use them in the future.

GUEMRI Appliance Repair responded to my request within the hour, which was a late Saturday afternoon. A technician showed up 10:30am Sunday, and my problem was repaired in less than an hour. He explained the two circumstances which caused the problem, how they most likely occurred (poor workmanship by previous contractors) and how he made additional provisions such that not only would the problem be fixed, that it should not occur in the future. The price was so reasonable I paid a little extra. I would definitely recommend this company, and will use them again in the future if the need arises.

This guys are awesome!! We moved to a our new home in Rockville and our contractor recommend us to do a complete ducks cleaning because the house is old and the ducks systems are dirty - and because we host everyone for the holiday I needed it done asap! I was looking on yelp to find a local company that can help us with that, I called some companies and no one had an open window for the day before the holiday. Then my friend gave me Leo number & he said he had an excellent experience with him, I called him he got my information - 2 days later (a day before the holiday) he was at my house with is helper and did a complete cleaning. Higley recommend!!

After three disappointments with previous contractors either not showing, overcharging, and lack of response, our company was assigned Logan Mechanical. I can honestly say they were great. I appreciate their professionalism and true passion for the job. They could have easily tried to get one over as other companies have, but instead they came in, fixed the issues created by another company, as well as the original concern. Not only were they prompt and helpful in explaining the process, they provided different options for our situation. Because of their great work, we have happy clients now, with working AC ;)

Val is the nicest. Came in, looked at what needed to be done, and gave me an estimate. I would say it was reasonable, as I have no idea how much mold remediation costs, but I can say "I was NOT crying all the way to the bank." The sub-contractors he had working with him were also very nice, friendly and personable. If you ever need to have mold removed, Val (and crew) is your guy.

I texted Lassaad to help with a cord replacement in my gas stove. He responded immediately and 20 min later he was at my place (earlier in the day I waited four hours for another contractor). Lassaad arrived on time, brought everything he needed and got to work right away. He fixed the problem in 10 mins, and even though he initially quoted me $140 he ended up charging me only $75 because the job was less complex than he initially envisioned. He is professional, courteous and knows what he is doing. Definitely will hire him again.

Herbert is professional, intelligent, transparent and simply great. He showed up to our appointment 5 minutes early, which is a rarity in this day and age! Herbert was able to quickly diagnose the issue with my furnace without trying to sell me an entire new unit like a lot of contractors. He is honest and fair. I am in real estate so I have seen my fair share of shady contractors, Herbert is heads and shoulders above the rest and I will be recommending him to my clients!

In my opinion Kevin Creel is simply the contact you want to have for your HVAC issues. Tremendously impressed with him and his expertise. I request service on a Burnham boiler/furnace. I made contact with referral from Thumbtack. That gentleman started out well, explaining to me a CO problem that necessitated buying a brand new boiler. He also mentioned the part that was bad. He never suggested getting into the boiler to thoroughly clean it out of the rust and debris. Then when I was ready to purchase the part that he diagnosed as the issue he still attempted to move me to simply purchase a new boiler. I then called Mr. Creel at Climate Pro and explained my situation and that I did not want to get a new boiler. Mr. Creel explained what he could do and that he would come out. Mr. Creel looked at the boiler, explained to me in terms that I could understand and then proceeded to do what no other contractor was willing to do. He told me he believes that it would not be a problem to get the boiler up and running. The boiler had not been cleaned in many years. He explained to me that the cleaning he would do should take place every 3 or 4 years. Mr. Creel then removed the rusted top, exposing the inside of the boiler. He then explained to me that while the boiler is old and rusty it simply needs a thorough cleaning. He showed me how the rust was causing the CO problem in the area of the boiler and that the boiler needs to be cleaned out to allow the flames to go up in the boiler and the gas to go through the vent pipe. He brought in his tools and began to clean the entire inside of the boiler out and remove the rust and debris. He then put the boiler back together, he bled the radiators throughout the house, and then fired the boiler up and it works wonderfully! Mr. Creel then thoroughly cleaned up the area around the boiler! I could not be more impressed with his expertise, professionalism and honesty. I understand that contractors are in the business to make money but Mr. Creel's integrity does not allow him to take advantage of a customer who is at their wits end! Thank you Climate Pro! Thank you Kevin Creel! Continued business success and happy customers like me.

The company moved my boiler pipes in the basement to make way for a new exterior door. The work was fast and professional. The price was higher than I expected, however, multiple companies simply refused to do the job, at any price. The company coordinated with my remodelers, which was a great help. Again, many other HVAC companies I approached for an estimate told me that they just didn't do remodeling jobs, only repair and service. Overall, I'm glad I found David and ComfortFactor and I will keep them in mind for my future HVAC needs.

Brian was absolutely amazing! My biggest concern when dealing with contractors is their honesty and integrity. Brian found what problem existed in the system and basically saved us thousands of dollars. I can honestly say if I had hired someone else they probably would've taken advantage of us and charged us more. I will recommend Brian to everyone!!

After posting a project for installation of an Aprilaire 2310 media filter and new duct work, I immediately recieved a response from Revolution Heating and Cooling with a very affordable estimate (more so than several local HVAC contractors I had reached out to before). From the very start, Curtis provided excellent service from proposal to the actual installation. He arrived on time and was very friendly as well as knowledgeable. Installation was quick despite challenges with the size of the furnace closet. Will definitely be using for future projects!

I have been a customer for several years! They are always polite & knowledgeable. They replaced my hot water heater last year and its running great! Passed county inspection no problem! They insulated my attic several years ago and, again, did a phenomenal job. There was a problem when the technician mis-stepped and came through the ceiling but the hole was fixed by a contractor, paid for by NICE, in a couple of days. Cant even tell. They are always informative and make recommendations. You can decide whether to accept the suggestions or not. They do my annual maintenance on the A/C and Heat every year. I highly recommend NICE!

I have lived in Loudoun County for 35 years. HVAC2U takes me back to the days when most contractors were reasonable, reliable, honest, qualified, and personable. HVAC2U is all of this. I would not hesitate to engage HVAC2U again and again. Their workmanship is excellent and they know their products. Everything that I expected was done perfectly. I am totally satisfied. They are a trustworthy company and you will be satisfied, too. Without the slightest hesitation, I recommend that you call HVAC2U for a quote. RB - Purcellville

Millie' s was quick to respond d to my Thumb Tack inquiry, and gave me an upfront quote for the HVAC repair we needed. It was significantly lower than our regular HVAC company had quoted. The came out quickly after we agreed to have them do the work -- the very next day, and did the repair within an hour.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
