I was very pleased with the overall effort of Mr Marcus Hampton in diagnosing and repairing my Whirlpool dryer. He was easy to communicate with, worked with my schedule, was prompt, professional and courteous. I will use him again in the future and recommend him to others. While I think I received good value in the repair, I don't really know parts costs or standard hourly rates, so it would be inappropriate to comment on that. I will say that Mr. Hampton's diagnostic fee - rolled into the final bill like most other repair shops - was significantly lower than many other places. That could be a key factor for you if you are trying to decide if the unit is worth repairing or should be replaced. One recommendation I'd make is that M&G provide a detailed receipt with warranty information on their work. Though not a concern for the simple part replacement in my case, it might be of concern to others with more extensive repair work. That one suggestion notwithstanding, very pleased with Mr. Hampton, his work, his professionalism and I will call him first for my appliance repair needs in the future. JJ Parus

Working with Ron was very pleasant. Our water heater broke down and we needed someone to repair it as soon as possible. He promised to have one of his plumbers respond later that day that he called to take the job. It appeared his plumber doesn't communicate well because he couldn't get to us. Roy was apologetic and I can sympathize when you have an employee that doesn't keep you informed what he is doing. I am hoping Ron has a talk with him because Ron promised our water heater repair would be the first job of the day. His plumber didn't get to us until after 10AM almost 11AM. My wife was not happy but I was prepared to judge him by the work he did. We were very pleased with the repair and Ron is standing by the repair for 90 days. The downside is his plumber apparently has a problem being punctual. The two plumbers seem like good guys but they really need to work on punctuality because it hurts Ron's reputation. I personally won't hold it against him because they did a good job and he discounted the work because they were a no show the day before they came and late the did they did come. Future customers of Ron need to be patient, not as bad as waiting for the Cable guy but patient nevertheless. The quality of the work is work being patient.

It was almost the night before Christmas...not the best time to find someone skilled and reliable to quickly install an interior door. Sean responded to my request for help within just a few hours. He came to our house the same day to find out exactly what we wanted and needed. Less than 48 hours later, the door was up and the work area was tidied up. We appreciated that Sean really cared about the quality of his work. We are very thankful for him this Christmas and would definitely recommend him to others.

In preparing our home for sale, I contracted them to paint several areas that showed some wear and tear. Not only did they repair all wall surfaces, they repainted many areas that I had not even noticed. They were always prompt, courteous, and extremely conscientious about their work.

I couldn't be more pleased. We thought we just needed a toilet repair and he discovered a total blockage in the drain line and identified the cause. Paul came within an hour of my call, resolved everything that could be done immediately, and advised me on what I should do for a long term solution. I am very grateful for the wonderful service.

Re: Fence/Mailbox Installation - Burgess is truly knowledgeable in their trade. In fact, it was necessary for them to identify errors with the materials order the material supplier/pro were unable to determine. This resulted in at least two reschedules for the job. Their response was very professional.

Kevin responded quickly to my post for fence repair, he came out and provided me a very reasonable quote and allowed me time to get other quotes. His turned out to be the best and we scheduled a date for the job. He sent me a text asking if he could do the work earlier than scheduled, worked for me since it freed up our Saturday. He came out on time, worked a better part of the day and did an excellent job. We are very happy with the work he did and would certainly recommend anyone needing handyman services call him first.

I did not fully understand his pricing before hand. I thought he charged $45.00 an hour for the job but he stated that he told me it was $45.00 an hour with a minimum of 2 hours. So if he did only an hour worth of work he still would have charged $90.00 he said. So persons choosing this company thinking that they will save money should think about this. While the job I had him to do did not really take 2 hours to complete (i.e. install a bottom heating element inside an oven ( 15-20 minutes tops) and put hinges on a kitchen door cabinet, we did have to make a trip to Lowes to get the correct size hinge which took about 15 to 20 minutes). I spent time talking with him about other possible jobs during this time as well. So his total visit was about 2 hours and I paid him $90.00 for the work done.

Very fast response, clean and neat, has order my parts and should hear from him by the end of the week. Very knowledgable. I looked up the cost of parts on the Internet, and the prices he quoted were very fair. Will update this review when parts are installed.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
