What impresses me the most, is her annual recitals, which we have enjoyed for over a decade. These are not ordinary student recitals, they are comparable to professional-quality performances organized by prestigous schools with extensive resources. From the coordinated student attire for a professional look, to the color coded folders to hold the notes, to the stage setup with the grand piano to the side to reduce anxiety and distraction, to the stool next to the mic for young ones. Every detail is thoughtfully planned, intentionally setting students up for success. Let alone the outstanding musical performances by the majority of students ranging from 5 to 19 in age. What makes it even more special is how she prepares her students to introduce themselves and their pieces confidently on stage, develop presence, overcome stage fright, and build confidence that goes beyond music. These meaningful recitals that she manages to organize single-handedly, although it feels as though an entire professional production team is behind it, give students something meaningful to work toward throughout the year and give parents a sense of pride as they watch their children grow in confidence, discipline, and musical ability. I genuinely consider Ms. Hanaa one of the best teachers I have met, not just as a music instructor, but as an educator and mentor. I was not surprised when my son chose to write one of his college essays about her. That alone speaks volumes about the lasting impact she has on her students. Even had a broken pinky and he knew exactly how to pivot our lessons during the recovery! His creative approach breaks down chords perfectly, completely unlocking the ability to play by ear, improvise, and recreate songs. With the chords and ear training I could easily hear a song and start jamming out on a piano on the spot, which is a great party trick :).
