Hello guitarists, Gregg was a great teacher, and I happily recommend him. :-) As an absolute beginner, I took lessons with Gregg last year. Gregg patiently walked me through the basics (i.e. names of strings, chords, finger strengthening exercises, etc.) and introduced me to simple songs (such as O Christmas Tree and Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer). He is very adept at adjusting lessons to fit a person's skill level. He encourages students to approach him with questions, select the songs they might like to learn (I selected Christmas songs), and happily prepares written material for your lessons. He even helped teach me to tune and re-string my guitar. If you are looking for a friendly teacher who is flexible in his teaching style, will focus on the specific skills you as the learner are keen on acquiring at a reasonable price, Gregg is the teacher for you. Happy playing, Nicole

I started taking voice lessons for the first time at the age of 53 from Sam. My only other musical experiences were singing in a church choir as a teenager and taking piano lessons for a couple of years when I was in middle school. I chose Sam because of his willingness to accept different types of voices and his terrific and positive reviews. I have never questioned my choice. When I started with Sam, my voice was weak. I could basically carry a tune, but definitely not in a public setting and definitely not one that was outside of the middle-of-the-road range. I took lessons so I could feel more confident in my singing ability and improve my voice. Sam started by teaching me how to breath while singing. I’ll admit that it was hard work and not the most exciting, but it has made a huge difference in my ability. My range has been broadened and my voice is much stronger than when I began 8 months ago. During that time we have worked on music theory, rhythm, harmony, different types of music, etc. The key for me is that I have always found Sam very patient and encouraging yet at the same time mindful of the technical expertise needed to improve one’s voice. I highly recommend him for someone like me and definitely for anyone who has a more natural musical talent!

I have been taking voice lessons with Sammy for 4 months now and have enjoyed every lesson. He explains techniques so that they are easy to understand and apply. You can tell he cares about his students and really wants them to achieve their goals. My only experience with singing was from high school and early college and Sammy has been so helpful in improving my voice.

I am both shocked(!) and incredibly happy with how my voice has improved since I started voice lessons with Barbara just a matter of months ago. Tone, range, everything. She is truly an amazing teacher and a lovely person. And as a bonus, you will never have as much fun at a music lesson as you will with Barbara! Very, very highly recommended!

Voice lessons with Rachel Leanza have been a great pleasure. She is awesome at working out a schedule for lessons and making sure you're comfortable during them. You get what you give in effort, but she is always there to help and answer any questions. When you do start to experience progress in your voice, Rachel is just as enthusiastic as you are, which makes the lessons quite fun. If you're looking to learn about singing and enjoy yourself while doing it, then these lessons are definitely worth it.

I am so glad I found 4Singers Voice Lessons with Tracy Hamlin. I was in need of some vocal coaching for an audition, with limited time to prepare. Tracy managed to help me work through both songs with ease. She helped me feel completely prepared and more confident than when I first started lessons with her. She is a Godsend and I highly recommend her to anyone wanting to learn or improve their vocal skills.

Our eldest daughter (8yo) has been with Dr. Oster for 3 years, and our younger (5yo) for 1 year. I personally found Dr. Oster a bit intimidating at first, but the kids took to her from the beginning and just love her. Dr. Oster is not for everybody. Here is a brief summary of Dr. Oster's teaching philosophy: 1. Start them early. In contrast to other teachers who don't want to take kids before age 7 or 8, Dr. Oster prefers to start them early, as early as 4 or even 3. 2. Don't baby them. Her driving philosophy is that kids can absorb much more than most of us think. Other teachers who will take young kids dumb down the lessons: no note reading, no expression, no regard for proper technique, etc. They will lavish praise on a child so long as she/he plays the right notes (and sometimes even if they don't). Not here. From the beginning, Dr. Oster's students are taught to read notes, key signatures, understand rhythmic notation, accidentals. They are taught proper form and technique. They are taught expression and dynamics. Apart from the piano instruction, they are required to take music theory classes once a week, which are taught at a college-level introductory theory course (circle of fifths, intervals and chords, etc.). They are required to take the Maryland state exams in music. And frankly, you will be amazed at what your child can pick up. 3. Heavy parental involvement is required. You do not drop off your kid, or let them practice by themselves. You will be sitting in the piano classes, to understand what your child is learning so you can guide them at home. You will be attending your child's music theory classes, helping her/him grasp concepts. You will be practicing with them at home, making sure they make progress. [So one positive byproduct is that parents end up learning a lot as well!] 4. It is hard work. There is no set amount of practice time; they will have to practice as much as necessary to make progress. That may be a little, or a lot. In our case, it is about 30 min to an hour every night for our 5-year old, and 1-2 hours a night for our 8-year old. Lessons continue throughout the year, with only a 2-week break. If you are taking a vacation, the clock does not stop; you will need to make up the missed classes and catch up to where you would have been without a break. 5. Dr. Oster sees herself as (and in actuality is) a co-parent of your child. These are more than piano lessons, these are life lessons. Your child will be learning: (i) how to focus; (ii) that she/he is capable of things beyond what most people expect; (iii) that hard work and discipline are essential for success; (iv) to be patient with themselves; (v) to have fun while working (otherwise they will quit); (vi) and to aim for excellence, not just to be "good enough." 6. Dr. Oster believes in immersion in the arts and culture. There are field trips to watch concerts and ballet performances at the Kennedy Center or Strathmore; and field trips to the Library of Congress, the Shakespeare Theater, and Hillwood Gardens. 7. Your child will be tested. To ensure progress, there are periodic tests where your child will be tested (via a recorded performance) on the piece she/he is currently learning: on notes and rhythm, on technique, on expression and dynamics, on tempo. Eventually she/he will join performances, which are not your typical recitals; these are concerts at serious venues (Constitution Hall, embassies, Kimmel Center, Ivy League universities, European concert venues, etc.) where concert-level performances are expected; these kids do not get a pass because they are kids. Bottom line: if you believe in your child's potential, and are willing to put in the time and energy to bring it out, Dr. Oster is an excellent teacher. If you want casual piano lessons, you're better off somewhere else.

We focused on sightreading and scales for piano for a half hour, and projection along with releasing tension in vocal lessons. She explained to me the importance of releiving tension. I highly recommend this young lady and One2OneMusic!

Ms. Alexandra, has helped me tremendously to improve my voice skills. Most of my singing experience came from school or church choir where I always sang the Alto – lower note – parts. My goal for taking voice lessons is to improve the high notes. Ms. Alexandra’s teachings has worked my voice to reach notes that I previously had difficulty and sounded soft or raspy (over-strain). Her voice exercises have corrected the posture of my mouth, interior and exterior, and relaxed the muscles surrounding the voice in order to open-up the voice for clarity and volume. Every voice lesson with her has been a stepping stone to reaching my goal. I can see the troubled areas have improved and become easier to reach. I have even seen my lower-notes sounding clearer, better, rounder, and colorful. Ms. Alexandra identified my strengths, for example, the lower-notes and coloratura. She then expanded on those strengths by taking them further, working that area to sound even better and also to keep me motivated to reach my other goal because if I had only practiced on my goal, I would eventually ended-up believing I was not good enough to reach those high notes; In order for me to reach those notes, I had to be confident, relaxed, and not have my mind preoccupied on reaching that goal. Ms. Alexandra knew this already and kept the lessons varied and interesting. Through her teachings I have come to understand how my voice functions, and identify the shape of my mouth in order to identify different levels of sound. She is very patient and understanding and has great ability expand on your current knowledge, and nurture a beginning singer, like me.

Julia worked as a private music teacher at First Note Music. She taught voice and piano to students ranging in age from 5-70. She was always pleasant to be around and rarely let outside influences affect her interactions with students and staff. Julia maintained well-working relationships with everyone at First Note Music and was always organized and ready to teach. Her passion for teaching, especially voice, is apparent from the moment she steps into a lesson. Julia was always on-time and communicated well with all her students. If she was running late or had to cancel lessons for any reason, she was always ahead of the game by contacting her students and the store, as well. She always kept her schedule updated and informed us of any time she may have needed to take off. While she taught at First Note, Julia was one of the few teachers who took the initiative to plan and execute her own off-campus recitals. She always packed the recitals we put on as a store and constantly searched for performance opportunities for her students. I unflinchingly recommend Julia Bryant for any position she applies for with the knowledge she will give nothing less than her absolute best.

Rebecca is a Speech Level Singing vocal coach/teacher who is trained with the Internationally recognized SLS program, developed by world-reknowned Seth Riggs. Seth is known for his training of music moguls such as Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Aretha Franklin, Josh Groban, and most of the big names in the music industry. She is the reason that I am singing/songwriting today. I showed up into her studio and made a bid to her, asking her if I ever had/have a "chance" at making my dreams come true. Based on her knowledge of SLS and how it heals/develops the voice; and after listening to my short "audition",...she immediately said that she would be happy to help me continue on my path towards my dreams! She encouraged me to start songwriting.....something that I had been afraid to do for many years. Because of her kind attitude and passionate support of me, I have written over 35 songs since that time, just a little over one year ago. She coached me in my aspirations and taught me in my vocal needs. She has excellent tools at her disposal, to teach almost anyone out of "chest pulling" or vocal "flipping" over the bridges in the voice. I've come to know her as "the person who got me started".... as I am now recording my first album in Wilmington, NC, as an independant Christian singer/songwriter... and well on my way to performing my songs in churches in my local area and touring in my region! Truely, I owe her so much, for giving me so much inspiration and support. I don't know anyone else who would have given me the amount of support that she gave me! I am so grateful for her!! Thanks Rebecca!!
