Cindy and her husband did a such a great job on my basement that I hired them to paint the main floor as well. They are both very careful and meticulous painters and fixed patches of dry wall where necessary as well. I have no complaints.

My Cyrus gave an estimate over the phone, and it was reasonably close (less) to the estimates received from contractors who had been on site. However, in all fairness, I wanted him to see the level of effort required before giving a final cost. He came by, was very personable, and we negotiated a cost to do the job. We ended up painting more rooms and doors for less than the other 2 estimates. He brought his painter by on Saturday to preview the work to commence on Monday. The painter ask if he could start right then... and we said sure! He arrived at 8 AM sharp and worked until 6 PM. it took 7 days, but he stayed right on it. He cleaned up and left no mess. Quality was very good.... a couple wall dings went unfixed, but when shown they were repaired. A few minors couldn't be fixed without repainting a whole wall, and I elected to pass. He offered, I passed. I was pleased, the cost was reasonable, and I would use them again.

Contacted J.P.R. Painting to paint my basement, after 2 very long years of working to get it remodeled. We did this part ourselves, and faced so many obstacles just to get it to the point where it COULD be painted. My experience with John and his wife Jamie could not have been better. I got the sense that John is a perfectionist, which is exactly what you want when you're hiring a painter! He was so flexible with our timeline/schedule, committed to the quote he'd provided, very friendly and professional... and when I say he painted quickly, I don't mean he hurried --- I mean he's very efficient without any compromise whatsoever to the detail. There is absolutely no way that I could have done as clean of a paint job myself, especially in the time he was able to do it. (this is why you hire a professional painter, by the way). It really looks great, and I'm extremely satisfied with the way it all looks. Okay, now I need to talk about Jamie, John's wife. Most of my communication has been with her, and if I have to be honest, before a drop of paint was on the wall, I was sold on J.P.R. Painting because of Jamie. There are dozens of professional painters in the area, but for me, what sets anyone apart is customer service. And I'm not going to use typical words like "courteous" and "professional" and "communicates well". While these words all are certainly applicable, Jamie goes far beyond those traits. She has been GENUINELY sweet and friendly and really seemed to understand this whole bear of a basement project and what it meant to me to finally get to this point. Any home project is personal when you're putting money and time into it, and it's so refreshing to have someone on the other end of the phone who truly respects and understands that! Thank you, John and Jamie! :-) I will recommend you to anyone.

OUTSTANDING is how I can describe working with Steve. It was my first time using Thumbtack and out of 3 potential painters, Steve's reviews and photos of his previous jobs caught our attention. From the first meeting, we instantly felt comfortable with him and after looking at our poor DIY paint job, he put us at ease saying he could fix it. He quoted us a very fair and decent price (we provided the paint). My husband would let Steve into the house in the morning and we felt comfortable letting him be there while we were away. He constantly kept us updated with the progress of the project. The kitchen is BEAUTIFUL and we're already planning on hiring him again for when we want other rooms painted. HIGHLY recommended!

The painters at Pricision Painting were the most courteous people I've ever meet. They took the time to help move all of my furniture and cover all of my floors. They took the time to make sure they didn't get any extra paint anywhere. THANKS GUYS!

We were interested in having our home updated. After renovating our kitchen and baths, it was time for a painter. Let me tell you: We received quotes that came in extremely low (beware of those) those extremely high. We were getting frustrated with our search, until my wife discussed the situation with her best friend. She referred my wife and I to a painter that she had used for several projects. I'll also tell you this: Not all "painters" are actually painters! We were fortunate enough to not only meet Lew, but chose him as our service provider. He is exceptionally knowledgeable about the various products available. He and his staff really epitomized the meaning of Professional Painters! We were so pleased with his mannerisms, cleanliness, professionalism, and end result.....We hired him to do our homes exterior as well! We have referred him to as many friends and family as we can...and he has never done anything but continue to deliver the highest quality! When we received this, we could only jump at the opportunity to help get this man's name, reputation...and our experiences, out to more people! Thumbtack should be so lucky to have Lew and his crew! Great guys. Great service. Great results! We sold our home, and will most certainly call on Lew to transform our new home, as soon as the renovations are completed! Outstanding young man!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
