He came to my home on time and wall mounted my tv in less than an hour. The quality of his work is too good. I will definitely hire him for my future projects.

Looked diligently for a home stager in King County. Contacted four different companies. Heard back from two. Tristan, was amazing, on time, myself and my clients were very happy with the staging!

We've hired HK twice in the last 2 years. Once to paint the exterior of our home, the second time to paint the interior to prep it for sale. I would recommend HK every time. In fact, I have recommended them to several friends. They are meticulous. They show up when they say they are going to show up. They work hard, and they do a beautiful job.

To Thumbtack From Fatima Bof fatima@fatimabof.com I’m a broker agent at Windermere. I recently listed a home for a client in an upscale Eastside neighborhood. The home was beautuful but needed decluttering, organizing and staging before the listing went active and before the open house. I had LuLu from StyledStaging.com come in. She was amazing. The flow of the home was opened up and the house had a very comfortable, logical layout to it when LuLu was finished. LuLu used accessories wonderfully in the home using many of the owners furnishings and some of her own. I”m looking forward to hiring her for more projects. Her work was truly inspirational

I knew the minute Heather walked in my front door, she would be the one to work with. she has a positive open and friendly personality with talent to match. she is excellent at reading her clients style as well as the home and living space. because she was so good at getting my taste, it made it easy for me to make decisions. She showed me possibility's i could not have imagined. I no longer look at decorating magazines with resigned envy. Thank you Heather you are a blessing.

I am in the process of the project. I am just wanting to spruce up my home and make some minor improvements. If I could leave 10 stars, I would. Professional. Enthusiastic and I have to say she listens to the customer, she borders on psychic in getting exactly what I have wanted. Amazing suggestions and very respectful of my budget. I would highly recommend Amy.

Andrea designed and helped remodel 1 bedroom, 2 studys, 3 baths, and 3 closets in our home. Planning took 45-60 days and the extensive planning reduced the construction time by about 40%. We have been very pleased with the creative design and the function of Andrea's work. Visitors to our home always complement us on the work that Andrea did.

July 8, 2015 For years I have wanted to remodel the powder room in our home but wasn’t sure how to begin. I knew I wanted earth tones, tile flooring and a cool sink but every time I went to the tile store I would stand there looking at the million and one options and get more and more confused. Well, that’s where Jeanine comes in. She even took the time to meet me at the store to pick out the tile. She was prompt, (nothing makes me crazier than someone not being on time) courteous, and decisive. First she helped me eliminate a few options, then she helped narrow down the choices. We took the top choices home and laid them in the room. Jeanine was very helpful; she even offered to carry the tiles to and from my car. Once we pinpointed which tile would suit the project best, we then chose flooring, counter tops and a sink. Jeanine was very savvy too. There was a tile I really liked but it would have caused me to go over budget. She was able to find a suitable alternative which ended up saving me money. Way to go! I forgot to mention how much fun we had at the store too. We laughed and had a good time together. We decided on a vessel sink and a modern faucet. The finished project looks great. Thanks Jeanine for making my dream bathroom come true. If you need some guidance on your home project, give JB Design a call, you won’t be disappointed. Fan for life, Kathleen Schwartz

Interior design is not my strength and I was lost. Fortunately, I found Alison on Thumbtack. She walked me through the process, did what I asked her to do (including pushing me out of my comfort zone) and changed my new construction empty house into my home. I would highlight her fee structure which removed the conflicts of interest that plague this industry, and her practicality in finding more expensive furnishings where it made sense and some spectacular work on a budget where it didn't make sense to spend a lot. Thanks A!

She is creative, professional and has tried to guide us in discovering what will make our home feel like a reflection of ourselves and a place we will want to spend as much time as possible in.

Fresh home design was instrumental in getting our house ready for the market. The house was built in the 1940s and therefore needed new plumbing, electrical, windows, as well as some cosmetic fixes and curb appeal. They stepped in and managed the whole thing and stayed within our budget. From the exterior to the finest details inside, all was done tastefully and in the end got us top dollar for our house.

My home was designed by Helena Hoyte Bierly Interior designer and principal at Wingpoint Design LLC on Bainbridge Island WA. The flow of the house works well for our family with a highly functional and livable floorplan. The house is light and airy with large windows; it is well situated on the lot allowing maximum views and sun. The house has a contemporary feel with high ceilings, high end fixtures, wonderful stonework and great lighting. We highly recommend Helena's work.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
