I have taken dance class from Charla, on and off, for over 17 years. With the experience of taking from Charla's private classes, group classes, and partner classes, and rehearsing for recitals from ballet to tango, to salsa and more, one common thread through all these years and varied experiences, is the joy I feel while dancing. Combined with a lifetime of training and technique, Charla teaches with so much passion and love for dance, she encourages her students with patience and commitment, and I find that I am able to learn and move through the most challenging steps with repetition, watching careful demonstration, and a smile! As I have witnessed Charla teach so many students, I have seen how she is able to relate to many different learning styles from kinesthetic, to rhythmic, to visual, or conceptual, Charla gets the message across and she always makes time for questions and for addressing them. My favorite part of studying for recitals has been the creativity Charla weaves into the choreography and the music! One thing I love about the group class is witnessing how people (myself included), learn steps they never thought they could and how these steps become sequences, and these sequences become spontaneous and interactive dancing that is priceless! Thank you Charla!

My dance instructor was Johnny Bryant, (and still is) :-) I was a beginner at partner dancing and it was challenging, but my teacher made the challenge fun! I've done a lot of styles of dance from Ballet and Modern to Hip-hop, so I love dance and was thrilled to learn partner dancing, especially my favorite Swing!

My husband and I loved working with Linda to prepare for the first dance at our wedding! She embodies that rare combination of being a gifted and inspirational teacher + a pure joy to be around. When we started, we had no absolutely clue how to dance and worried about our first dance for MONTHS... but under Linda's joy-filled and gentle guidance, we learned how to dance (and felt great doing it!) At our wedding, we got compliments on our first dance! People said we looked so smooth and graceful, like real professionals (and this is amazing because we had zero dance skills before we met Linda.) We now feel comfortable dancing in almost any setting, and we have so much fun doing it. We no longer feel shy or inhibited... we just dance and enjoy ourselves! This is all thanks to Linda, who has a knack for helping people find their confidence. She helped us discover the joy in every movement. Our dance lessons are some of our very favorite memories from our wedding planning days, and I smile when I think of them. Any couple would be lucky to work with Linda -- she spreads joy just by being herself and helps clumsy people feel super elegant :) She's also unfailing prompt, very reasonably priced (dancing is a skill you can use for life, brings so much joy, and her lessons were worth every penny), and she responds quickly to emails. We HIGHLY recommend her to every engaged couple!

I've been following the work of Sergey for a long time. I think his work is the work of the European level. Sergey is a real fan of his work. His dance performances are interesting, original, unusual, informative and up to date. I attended in master classes that Sergei gave for teenagers and was pleasantly impressed with his professionalism and good nature. Sergey is a professional with a capital letter. He can do everything. Olga Moskaleva,Director of the theater-studio "Benefit"

I went through multiple courses Gayle has instructed. She is enthusiastic, personable and makes her dance crew a community. I have recommended her to my friends and have loved her choreography. If you are looking into dance classes or a different type of exercise you won't get at a gym go to her group and have a blast!

Clear instruction with good dance-competency results, done kindly and without intimidation or shaming (I'm awkward). Had a lot of fun. Many opportunities to practice, take (small) group classes, and dance socially for no additional expense - a better financial deal than places where there are only private lessons for the fee you pay. Right on a bus stop, or easy drive. Michael is upbeat and sincerely makes you feel good about what you're trying to do.

My name is Linda Stull. When me and my husband Roger started taking classes with Howard we did not have any idea on how to dance. Howard had to start with the very basics and it was hard, but he made it very easy for us. He knows how to teach, learning how to feel the beats of the songs and breaking down all the movements so we could understand better, just step at the time. We have been taking classes with Howard for two years and we are very good dancers thanks to him. LINDA STULL

Since I am not a dancer I was skeptical of taking a dance class. Franchesska's classes are great for people who want to be more graceful in their movement as well as get some exercise. Her classes never feel like a workout yet my body is more toned, I have better balance and improved posture. Classes are fun and tailored to suit students abilities and needs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do dance lessons cost?

Adults who want to learn to dance, whether to prepare for a wedding or to meet new people, often enjoy taking dance lessons from an experienced dance instructor. Instructors may offer classes one-on-one to individual students or couples, or to small groups. The national average cost for a dance instructor ranges from $30 to $50. Some studios offer a discounted introductory lessons or group lessons, as well as package deals that are more affordable than paying for individual lessons. Some dance instructors will travel to the student’s home, which usually costs more, while others hold small-group sessions in their studios. If you choose a small-group class, expect to pay less than for individual dance lessons.
