As a professional nutritionist, Cathy is both knowledgeable and compassionate. Cathy has helped me pay attention to what I eat and to make reasonable adjustments and substitutions in order to improve my health. She has partnered with me and my physicians to eliminate symptoms and improve my quality of life. I have lost 20 pounds over the last 10 weeks and have reduced swelling in my feet so I can tolerate wearing regular shoes again with no pain. I would recommend Cathy to everyone who wants to improve their health through better nutrition.

I've worked out with several different trainers and coordinated with different nutritionist, but Ultimate Edge Fitness with Adam is the whole deal. He listened to my goals and through great motivation and years of practice he has quickly helped me attain goals I have been struggling with for years. He is very well versed in the fitness world and is always spending extra time explaining moves, or explaining why we are doing certain things. One thing that really resonated with me that Adam said is that being fit and achieving goals are often two different things - he was really able to narrow down what I needed to do differently to see the changes I wanted to see. I can't say enough about how great Adam is. Highly recommended!

I highly recommend Kevin as a massage therapist, energy healer and nutritionist. I am privileged to have been his client for many years and he is by far, superior to any other healer I have ever worked with. I have experienced a great amount of healing in all three of these areas as a direct result of his knowledge and expertise. I trust his opinion as he has already exceeded my expectations as someone who knows what he is doing. He listens well to my needs and is very professional and personable. I’m a dancer and I need someone who knows how to work with sports injuries and deep tissue and he’s excellent at both. After his massages, I am pain free! Through Kevin’s healing treatments over the years I have recovered from my severe low back pain, severe frozen shoulder, and painful stiff neck. He has also taught me exercises to strengthen my body and stretches to release my tension. His nutritional advice has lead to the healing of my acid reflux, arthritis, and several other G.I. track ailments which is truly amazing! To this day I have no need for any pharmaceutical drugs and I live a very healthy life style because of my choices, but I have Kevin to thank for much of the guidance I received that led to the real physical and tangible results I am now experiencing. Thank you so much Kevin!!

Jordan Fengler-Mondau was recommended to me by my nutritionist. I have been working with her for a couple of months as a personal trainer. I have mobility issues and had concerns that a personal trainer might not listen to me. I was very pleased that after my first workout, Jordan crafted an exercise regimen that has increased slowly and steadily, as I was able to do more. Jordan firmly believes in the HAES philosophy, and I wish more trainers and healthcare professionals did. She has never been judgmental and I've never felt any side-eye from her about my weight. We began with one workout per week but now, she comes to our home three times a week. Jordan is prompt every visit, bringing with her weights and other small pieces of portable exercise equipment. We do the exercises together and as hokey as it might sound, the time flies by because the exercises are varied and fun. I have enjoyed actually feeling stronger, especially the noticeable shift from three pound weights to five pound and now eight pound weights. Since we began our workouts, I've noticed more strength in my legs and she recently commented that she noticed more definition in my upper arms. If you are looking for a personal trainer that cares about her clients, look no further. Jordan is absolutely fantastic and I'd recommend her to anyone who'd like more strength or cardio in their lives. She always arrives in good spirits and as I said, she does the exercises with me so I don't feel like she's just passing time while I work out.

Jeannie has been a life changer for me. I did her 6-month program and it made such a difference for me. I learned how to eat, what to eat, when to eat and also became so 'in-tune' with my body, emotions and overall life. Jeannie is knowledgeable, honest, understanding and super supportive. She worked with me during my lows and celebrated my highs. She is not only my nutritionist, but my friend and constant supporter. I'm so grateful for the life she helped me make for myself! She's the BEST!

I've worked with Jill for about 5yrs. So it almost goes without saying that I'm super happy with how much she's helped me. I started out thinking I was just getting a personal trainer. But it turns out Jill also has to be a nutritionist & therapist too! She's helped talk me down off the ledge after some temporary setback, and listened to a lot of my random whining for entire workout sessions. I always feel better after both the workout and the venting. She's helped me more than I imagined with my diet. She encouraged me to track my food, and reviewed those logs when I’ve plateaued to suggest additional tweaks so I could keep burning fat. She's even offered up a number of personal recipes. And if I cooked more, I might pay more attention to them :) As I get older, I find that I often have a variety of aching parts. She's an expert at modifying an activity to help you get the most out of it without hurting yourself further. If you’re looking for some drill-sergeant type that will scream at you during a session, that’s not her. But if you want someone that will push you to keep you motivated, and will call you on your BS when you claim you “can’t figure out why you’re gaining weight” after a week binging in Vegas, then Jill is probably a good fit for you.

It took me a while to get up the nerve to seek the help of a nutritionist but I am so thankful I finally did. Brookes insight and encouragement changed my life! She evaluated my situation and gave me very specific guidance toward developing a food plan that fits my life and helped heal my body. Some changes were difficult but she helped me gain a positive mindset that I could accomplish my goals. Everyday is a new day to take better care of ourselves. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.
