We were not planning on having a videographer at our wedding. However, my grandmother was ill and unable to make the wedding and requested a video. We found Best Made Video, talked a couple of times, and scheduled with Reid only a week before the wedding day. He was incredibly flexible and informative. We knew what we were getting, he knew what we wanted, he showed up the day of, and the day couldn't have gone any better. Like I said, we weren't thinking about having a videographer and now I don't know what I would've done without it! He did such an incredible (truly incredible) job of capturing our day! The edited video was amazing. It captured the feeling of our day perfectly! I am so beyond happy with how it turned out and now we can go back and watch it and relive our day over and over again! If you are a bride and you're on the fence about a videographer, or even think that you don't need it, trust me when I say it is WORTH IT. You won't be sorry!!

John Fox of Sun Ridge Media was a major blessing!❤ He arrived early at our Wedding/Vow Renewal and spent many hours filming, capturing stills & working on our beautiful Ultra HD Blu Ray DVD's. John patiently accepted many emails from me with inquiries and was timely in his responses. Our Highlight and Ceremony/Reception, etc. DVD's came out beautiful!!!❤ We would not hesitate to refer John to any of our family or friends and would definately hire him again!😃

Carly shot my pre wedding bridal photos, engagement, wedding and most recently – boudoir session. My friends and family are regularly blown away by the photos that get printed and shared. She is a fantastic photographer/editor with a unique eye for capturing light + shapes while showcasing the true personality of the subject she's shooting. I treasure her amazing work showcasing different milestones in my life. I joke that she is forever my photographer because as long as she is in business – I will never book with someone else. Carly makes you feel so comfortable and the whole time you are laughing, smiling and wanting to grab a drink with her afterwards. Carly is also incredibly prompt on email and the most professional yet down to earth photographer I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. I know people who wait months for their edited photos and Carly cranks them out while never sacrificing quality (+ she’ll send you a sneak peek of her favorites). I truly cannot share enough wonderful things about her and I HIGHLY recommend working with Carly.

Brodi worked with us on a movie project and was fabulous from start to finish! He helped make sure we got the right camera angles, and was a master editor to bring the whole film together. Final product was amazing! I've also seen some of his other work, from head shots to wedding videos and he is a genius with any video project he touches. I highly recommend BeSquared Photography and Video for your next project/event!

Our firm had the opportunity to work with Jesus and our overall experience with his work was very positive. Jesus shot and edited a promotional video for our company and we are very impressed with his work. Our main goal was to create a dynamic and effective promotional video to show clients, particularly in China. Even though, Jesus doesn’t speak Chinese, he was capable of delivering a really creative and high quality promo. He demonstrated a high level of professionalism at all times and is extremely knowledgeable in the area of video production and editing. He was easy to work with and very efficient, given that we had limited time for the actual shooting. I would recommend Jesus to anybody out there looking to create high quality and edgy video content.

First of all, Johnson Video was early to set up and completely ready to shoot the event on time. They were dressed professionally and and conducted their job in a very professional manner. There was good communication prior to the event . We received exactly and actually more than we contracted for. They were easy to work with and super high quality people with the highest integrity. Quality was excellent using a two HD camera setup. Post production editing was also excellent. It was evident early on that Leon was very knowledgeable and experienced in the video field. He also produced high quality HD Blue Ray DVD for us. So in summary, you can be confident that whatever your needs are for your upcoming event, Johnson Video will surpass your expectations whether it is a wedding, baby christening, corporate event, musical event, etc. i would highly recommend Johnson Video because you want your important event in the hands of the very best. Maureen and Jim did an awesome job as our wedding videographers. They came to our rehearsal at the Church two days before to test the lighting so everything would be perfect for shooting our video. They were very professional to work with and showed up early for the beginning of our day. They captured our day very well and highlighted the most important parts which for us was our wedding ceremony and they also got great footage at our reception. My husband who is very camera shy appreciated working with them because they blended in with the background and captured everything as it was naturally happening, they never asked us to pose. I felt at total ease having them as my videographers because they have so much experience and they never bothered me with anything that day. Our wedding highlight video was amazing! It is the perfect sum of our day in 5 minutes which is helpful when you want to show your friends, co-workers and family who don't have 2 hours to watch the longer version. Both Maureen and Jim was with us from the beginning of our day at my 9 am hair appointment until 8:45 pm when I tossed my bouquet of flowers. They were flexible on staying a little bit past the time we discussed because they honor how hard it is stay on track with your wedding day schedule. The quality of the video is beyond my expectations and looks very professional and high quality HD. The sound was great too because you can hear our wedding vows exchanged very clearly which was very important to us. The rest of the footage has decent sound so you can catch what people are saying but nobody was miked for that part. The longer version of the wedding video itself is a little choppy meaning it doesn't flow as natural and lacks transitions from one scene to the next, but overall it captures our day very well and I think every wedding video is bound to be like that because there is so much going on in one day with lots of different people involved! I strongly recommend Maureen and Jim at Seat of the Pants Productions because they have outstanding, high quality work and you can trust them to give you a great product for you wedding video!

I've worked in the video storytelling business, as a documentary producer, and as a news reporter/producer for 35 years. I've worked with many gifted video photographers and editors and none are better than Douglas Burgess. Actually, no one comes close. He is the best in the business of video storytelling. In fact the National Press Photographer's Association selected Douglas Burgess as the single best in the country at his craft not once, but twice. He's won 50 plus Emmys if my memory serves me right. His work is extraordinary. What he produces always exceeds the already high expectations. You'll see what I mean when you hire him. He is an artist in every sense of the word. He is gifted, and he's great to work with. A team player, he is engaging, and he is driven to make projects beautiful and powerful. Douglas Burgess delivers! I couldn't recommend anyone more.

I engaged Kelati to edit our organization's Volunteer Appreciation Video. He had to work with footage that I provided to him and had to cut through many revisions, most of them last minute and from our senior executives. He handled each new cut perfectly, took direction and notes excellently and delivered a flawless product. He was fun and helpful to work with throughout. If you have a need for a bright, fast, efficient pro editor, Kelati is your man! We really enjoyed working with him and look forward to our next opportunity to. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
