Dustin responded to my request for flooring replacement and Tile Installation through Thumbtack. He gave me a estimated quote quickly. He checked into the availability of stock for my tile choice and ordered what I needed to complete the job. Dustin demolished the old tile floor, put new subflooring down and installed the tile. He hauled away the old floor. The price for this job was extremely reasonable. He has great expertise in tile installation. He does beautiful work and most of all, I felt comfortable having him in my home. April

My husband and I had only 10 days to have work done on our condo before we moved in. Rodrigo and his team worked very long hours and were incredibly efficient at removing a popcorn ceiling and installing laminate flooring to match the current laminate. They did the work at an unbeatable price. Rodrigo was also very flexible. At the outset, we weren't exactly sure what we were looking for as a finished product and we wanted more changes than we could afford. He spent a lot of time with us, presenting us with various ideas, opinions, advice, options and quotes to match our budget and timeline. Our jobs are demanding and we couldn't always make decisions and communicate them until relatively last minute, but he was up to the challenge. We have a very high vaulted ceiling and it was no small task to remove the popcorn, sand, and paint it. They also removed the popcorn from inside closets in the bedrooms, in the bedrooms themselves, and in the hallway. They matched the laminate flooring perfectly and completed it on time, even though they had to remove the water heater in the closet, fill in concrete below it, and level parts of the floor before laying down the laminate. While they had the water heater removed, they attached an expansion tank recommended by our home inspector. It was so much easier to have all of this work done with just one contractor and Rodrigo was very responsive.

David did a great job on our bathroom. He understood our needs and didn't take short cuts. He had great product knowledge and wasn't intimidated by our desire for epoxy grout on the walls and pebble stone tile floors. He gave great advice and did beautiful work. Totally reliable, trustworthy, and honest.

Clarence did a beautiful job in my bath/shower stall! Only problem I noticed after he left was the caulk at the tub/tile interface was actually more grout rather than silicone or some substance that could be cleaned. The rough finish is unacceptable and I would like a material that could be cleaned.

Hired the guys at Light Construction to tackle my shower tile installation, after attempting to start it on my own, and realizing quickly that I was in over my head. I knew right from meeting them for an estimate, that these guys were pros. The quote was very competitive, and the agreement was very through and spelled out. The guys were on point. Allays on time, easy to talk to, and made me feel really comfortable. Also impressive considering they were commuting all the way into Redmond for our job. They went about a 1/2 a day longer than we originally planned, but the results were well worth it. Everything turned out super nice. They stayed on budget, and there were no surprises. They left the space clean, and even hauled away all the garbage I had laying around from my drywall "DIY" work. Will work with you guys again. Hard work and great results makes for return customers. (Also being Seahawks fans doesnt hurt your business case either) A+. Feel free to use me as a reference. Blake (Redmond)

Efficient. Timely. Thorough. Design Savvy. Honest. Any of the above words would be a perfect description for Brock and his crew. After being burned by previous contractors, we were hesitant to reach out to anyone when we realized our shower was leaking into the kitchen below. Taking a leap of faith, we contacted Sound Tile & Grout. Brock answered the phone immediately and set up an estimate for the very next day. Upon his visit, he confirmed the tile was beyond saving (as we feared!) and presented some tile design ideas. The pricing seemed fair - a significant discount on the tile was offered to my husband and I if we were to pick up the tile ourselves, which was a welcome savings! After we approved the project, we were scheduled about two weeks out. The start date was never postponed, which I am very grateful for as I have a very tight schedule. Things moved pretty quick! The first day involved Brock and an assistant removing and preparing the shower in anticipation for the tile setter who was to arrive the next day. The tile setter was very kind, I felt no reason to feel uncomfortable when I left him alone for a few hours to run some errands. The actual tile work itself is immaculate - the tile setter is a true artist. Our shower was completed in a matter of days. During this time, Brock visited the tile setter several times to ensure there were no issues and that everything was running smoothly. While I don't believe it was ever necessary, I do feel we were very well taken care of in that respect. Overall, I wish that I could provide more than 5 stars. I will certainly be contacting Sound Tile & Grout for our future tile needs.

Very professional - we couldn't be more pleased! We hired DTH to do some needed repair (drywall, tile, calking, painting, plumbing fixture replacement) in and around the shower in our master bathroom. They worked in our home for three days, did a high quality job and finished on time and on budget. The added positive was how very clean and tidy they were. We will highly recommend DTH to our friends and family!

Our white carpet needed cleaning, and we wondered if we could have some tile flooring put in next to a sliding glass door. Najib made the carpet beautiful, and did a very professional job on the tile work. He knows his tile. I would hire him for either carpet or tile. The man knows what he is doing. Fair, honest.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

      • Old standard or electric toothbrush
      • Stiff bristle brush
      • Spray bottle
      • White vinegar
      • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
