What do you love about your job?
I am passionate about helping clients develop winning innovations and strategies. In today's globally competitive environment, every organization needs to create a strategic competitive edge over their competitors. Doing so raises their game and provides one or more marketplace advantages that enable them to achieve sustainable profitable growth. The alternative to strategic open innovation is competing on such factors as price, which results in a commodity mindset and the pressure to compete on price. Likewise, seeking ever greater cost savings only provides a short-term tactical advantage, as there is always another competitor willing to match or beat low prices. Competing on price is a zero-sum game. Only strategic open innovation affords the opportunity to "own" a unique market position and with it, the staying power necessary to continue growing a profitable business for the long term.
Who inspired you to start your own business?
My father inspired me. He was always self-employed, and I learned from an early age growing up that there were times of bounty, as well as lean times, and we survived as a family with no ill effects. Starting my own business was always on my radar, beginning in college. It just seemed to be the natural path for me, as I am an independent thinker and doer who is not one to look around at what others are doing or thinking. I am also a "giraffe," that is, a natural innovator. Having the freedom to create and implement my own ideas gives me great satisfaction, as does seeing my clients succeed and prosper with my help.
