From the first phone conversation with Mike Watson I knew our evening was going to be great. He was very professional but so easy to work with. When the night came both Mike & Derek showed up with tools in hand and ready to entertain. Our friends were very impressed as were my husband and I. Mike & Derek were fun and invited us to test taste what they were preparing. We all discussed restaurants and downtown Chicago. Theyre background experience is just so off the charts. Who wouldn't want these two in their home cooking for them. Price was very reasonable and the food was outstanding. Good time was had by all and I'd definitely hire them again. Thanks Mike & Derek for making my lifetime wish such an enjoyable one. Patti Limbach

Sorry about being a little late to review, but Carol is outstanding. We used Carol to prep and cook for my son and his wife's baby shower at our home. Carol came to the house the day before and did the prep work and cooked for 70+ people on the day of the shower. She was punctual, professional and efficient. We would recommend her and cannot wait for our next event to use her again.

My husband and I hired Tracy to prepare two dinners per week, to be dropped of at our River Forest home. Her recipes are outstanding and the food is very fresh and seasonal. The meals include a salad w/homemade dressing, along with the main course and different side dishes. Plus, Tracy is an extremely nice person who was on time, with all the items and directions clearly labeled. We were very impressed and will definitely call her again.

Chef Frank was very professional and quick to respond to all queries. He was flexible in scheduling and location and considerate given that we were in the middle of moving houses. The lesson was a birthday present for my 9 year old daughter and he made it an event to remember. I would highly recommend Chef Frank for cooking/baking lessons.

We hired Becca to do cooking for a long photo shoot for our upcoming catalog project. Our photos were in need of an upgrade and Becca's creations really helped elevate the project. Each of the dishes she created was well thought out, incredibly appealing, and allowed the product to really shine. The catalog has since been released the reviews have been fantastic. Becca was a pleasure to work with and shows a real insight into translating a vision into actual product. I would highly recommend her.

We hired Girl and the Kitchen for a small party. The food was amazing, service was great and they cleaned up the kitchen after. Also for those that enjoy cooking or want to learn, the chefs are more than happy to share their knowledge.

Dillion, By the Graham, helped me formulate this dinner from the get go; from the concept, the menu, and finally the food itself. I was hosting a dinner party for some friends, an annual thing we do. This one was special. A couple in our group were going to be moving to another country and I wanted their last dinner part to be something grand. I called Dillion, upon getting a recommendation from another friend. He was extremely professional and helpful with any questions and concerns I had throughout the process. He suggested food pairings and how best to plate. Let's not forget the food, the meal was excellent. He came to my home promptly and set to work. As I was preparing the house for my guests I would at times stop, just amazed at the aromas coming from the kitchen. My anticipation was rising. As my guests arrived, they too commented on smells of food cooking, certainly better than anything I've ever made they commented, and they hadn't even eaten anything yet! When we sat down to the table, Dillion brought out the food. He explained each dish answered questions from the table. The first bite was perfect. The steak, perfectly pink in the center, the sauce tingled with a slight sweetness, the two mixed into a melody of flavor. The rest of the meal followed suit. Afterwards my friends stated it was the best dinner party I had ever hosted. My friends who moved, they still talk about the food, not so much the game I set out to play. Dillion was excellent and I will be hiring him for the next dinner party since he was such a hit. I can't recommend him more!

My lovely Girlfriend brought Mariela in to cook for my 30th birthday and it could not have been better. She came over to our place, groceries and tools in hand, and put together one of the best meals we've had in a long long time. She also gladly cooked up pretty much everything she bought, so we've been eating leftovers all week. Don't hesitate to bring her in, you won't be disappointed.

I truly cannot say enough good things about Chef Dom!! I hired Chef Dom to do a dinner party for an anniversary. He was extremely easy to work with while planning the details, he was patient as we decided a menu, and he made great suggestions along the way! Chef Dom helped accommodate a lot of dietary preferences and made custom dishes to satisfy all guests! When the night of the dinner arrived, he was on time, extremely prepared and brought such positive energy to our dinner. We decided to help him cook and he provided some good tips, tricks and insights along the way. Of course, most importantly, HIS FOOD IS INCREDIBLE! Each dish is extremely well put together, flavorful and absolutely delicious. Dom's portion sizes are generous without being wasteful. It is a pleasure to have Dom in your home and makes the experience of hiring a private chef that much better! If you need a chef, you need Chef Dom!!!!!

I cannot recommend Jennifer and Amour de Cuisine highly enough! My bridesmaids, Aunt and Mom hired Jennifer to cater my bridal shower. The shower had a tea party theme for which Jennifer created the most beautiful tea sandwiches and petite hor'derves. She also made dips and dessert options that my guests raved about. As much as every bite was pure bliss, the meticulous attention to the detail of presentation was a feast for the eyes! I still hear more about the food at my bridal shower more than I do about the food at my wedding! I have worked with other caterers and chefs, but in comparison Jennifer is an artist at her craft. Not only is she a professional and punctual chef, but her party planning skills are an added bonus. When I walked into the dining room where the food was set up for my shower, I felt like I had traveled to a vintage French tea party, and Jennifer set it all up to look that way. She truly set the mood for a perfect pre-wedding celebration. I can't wait to use her again for the next celebration that I host! Thank you, Jennifer, for putting so much elegance, heart, and love into the your work and for making my bridal shower so memorable and special!

On multiple occasions, we had Chef Ben into our home to cook for private dinner parties. He was very prompt and was sure to stay until cleanup was done. Ben interacted with our guests, and was sure to make everyone feel comfortable. From planning the menu to the presentation of the meal - everything was well done. The taste of the food was spectacular. We can't wait to have Chef Ben back to cook for us!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
