Introduction: I specialize in, and have over 20 years experience, teaching flute to children of all ages. I teach a blend of Suzuki and traditional methods for flute. I am certified to teach Suzuki method and hold B.M. and M.A. Degrees in Flute Performance. I have also studied privately with members of the Boston Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, New York Philharmonic and MET Opera Orchestra. I have been performing throughout the years in local Chamber Music Concerts and with various orchestras throughout the city. My most recent performances have been with String Orchestra of Brooklyn. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and look forward to having the opportunity to teach you or your child flute.

My son started studying flute with Frannie when he was 8. Now he's 16 and plans to audition for Juilliard in a few years. Frannie knew how to work with him when he was little so that he remained interested and encouraged, never daunted and never bored. She hit just the right balance. She also is extremely kind and laughs at my son's jokes -- she enjoys working with kids and that comes through very clearly. My son always looked forward to his lessons. Now that he's at a different level and decided that he wants to be a professional musician, she continues to challenge him -- she can meet whatever level he is at, from beginner to extremely advance. I'm so happy that my son had Frannie as his teacher, and he is too. She's a big part of his life and I am very glad about that.

I am genuinely delighted to have Frances as my flute teacher. As an adult returning to playing I have made steady progress under her skilled guidance. She has high level teaching skills; her clear and supportive approach convey the nuances of sound production and interpretation of the pieces we're working on in a palpable way. She has the kind of firmness and structure I appreciate in a teacher. At the same time her own evident enjoyment of teaching and love of the flute are an inspiration to me.

$90.00 per hr. $75.00 per 45 min. $60.00 per 30 min
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
If the student is a beginner, we first work with the head joint of the flute and tone production. If the student is more experienced, I ask them to prepare something to play for me at the first lesson that they think demonstrates their abilities. After listening and evaluating their approximate level, I can recommend music and exercises that suit their needs.
