Jenny and her team did an amazing job replacing the badly done tile in both of my upstairs bathrooms, I couldn't be more pleased. She was punctual and even though there were a lot of unpleasant things found while removing the old tile, still finished the job in a few days, and the new tile is perfectly smooth and flat and looks great! I'd highly recommend for tile!

I am super pleased that I decided to hire Kevin to install our backsplash. He was very responsive and on time. Most importantly, his process of installing one day and grouting the next really allowed for me to go over his work and ask for changes before nothing could be done. He also fixed our tile baseboards even though it was outside of the job I hired him for. I'd recommend Kevin to anyone looking for a tile installer and will be calling him again in the near future to complete some other projects.

Ronnie showed up on time, was knowledgeable and efficient about fixing the problems we presented: installation of a shower fixture that required tile drilling, replacing rollers on a shower door, and repairing a bad electrical outlet. Will definitely be calling him in the future!

I own several rental homes in Arizona and I needed to update the look with new flooring. Floor Coverings International Chandler consulted with me on options to upgrade the carpet to a resilient hard wood. Debra the owner was fantastic and I'm very happy with her service and recommendations. Her installers were also fantastic.

I had hired a contracter to do my tile work and scheduled a day. My husband had taken the days off to be home while it was done. The morning the work was to be started, no contracter. I texted him and got a reply of OMG I forgot to put you on my schedule. I called Gil and he came right over and gave me an estimate. I explained the situation to him and he said he could start the next day. The work was fantastic and they were very professional. They covered all of my wall hangings in plastic and put plastic over the opening to the kitchen before tearing out the old tile. Everything was cleaned up nicely when finished. We are very pleased with the final product and would high recommend Gil Sierra Tile.

I had 3 bedrooms and a walk-in closet with carpet I wanted replaced with some type of wood- look flooring. Ray came to my house, took measurements and explained all of my options with hardwood, laminate and vinyl including the plusses and minuses of each. He had many samples and laid them out next to my furniture so we could see how it matched. We discussed pricing and a schedule for installation. Ray was extremely professional and did not try to upsell. The day of the original scheduled installation, Thursday, I was called by the installers saying the material was late in arriving and said they could come the following day, Friday. I said OK. Friday morning , a man arrived to rip out the carpet and patch the tack strips holes. I asked when the installers would be there and he said a few hours because they were finishing up another job. Friday afternoon came...no installers. A phone call said they were still at they other job, but would be there Saturday morning. Saturday, the demo man and arrived alone to finish the carpet removal and tack strip holes and move furniture including my bed. He said the installers would be there at noon. A phone call at noon said they weren't coming. My bed was apart and I had nowhere to sleep. I called Ray and he seemed upset at the delay and said he would take care of it. The installers showed up at 5 PM. They finished my bedroom, reassembled my bed and moved the bedroom furniture back. They said the would be back Sunday to do the other two bedrooms and the walk-in closet. They came Sunday and finished the two bedrooms. However, they didn't have enough material to finish the closet nor did they have the transition pieces between rooms, They would have to locate two more boxes of material and come back. The following week was Thanksgiving but they did show up the Friday after Thanksgiving and finished the job. They finished 8 days after the original scheduled installation. My schedule was very flexible but my time is not. Nothing worse than waiting for someone to show up and when they don't show up, it wastes my time. The quality of the installation was excellent. Once they were done, everything looked great. They cleaned up everything and took all the removed materials away, put all the furniture back and left me with an extra box of material. They walked me through all the rooms and explained how to care for my new floors. All in all, I was very happy with Ray and the quality of the installation. The scheduling needs some work.

My experience with A to Z Property was a great one. I'm so glad I hired DJ to do this remodel of our guest bathroom. DJ installed a new tile floor with baseboards, installed a new toilet, installed a new vanity and faucets, hung mirrors and lights, replaced a fan, and did drywall repairs. The quality of his work is amazing and I couldn't be happier. He worked around my schedule and came on nights and weekends, and he showed up when he said he would. He is very professional and takes the time he needs to do the job correctly. I would not hesitate to recommend him to any of my friends and I will be hiring him again as well. A+++

Darrell did an excellent job hanging pictures frames and art on the walls in my recently renovated home. The walls that bordered the exterior were masonry so it was beyond my skill set. He was on-time, professional, and made sure I was happy with the work asking whenever he had a question to make sure it was done right. I’d definitely hire him again!

After an initial misunderstanding about the extent of the work required, Mike provided an excellent repair to the loose tiles above our fireplace. He accommodated our tight timelines. The results were very good and blended in with the remaining tiles.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
