The provider was professional, explained exactly what and how the cleaning of my furniture would be done. They appeared to care that I was more than satisfied with their cleaning results and offered to clean up the floor area, as well. I was very pleased with them and their service and would highly recommend to anyone.

Kevin was a lifesaver - taking a small space under a bathroom vanity and patching the pergo floor underneath it. I originally had another "handyman" attempt this and it was a disaster. Kevin fixed his mess up and made it 100% awesome. You would never know a patch job was done - he even removed my toilet to make it perfect. LOVE THIS GUY!

He did a good job paining our concrete floor. The reason I didn't give him 5 stars is because he was 30 minutes late. He didn't answer the phone when I called. He didn't call or text to let me know he was late. That is very frustrating and I would not hire him again for that very reason. The quality of the painting is good. Punctuality, not good.

I hired Nick to paint the interior of my 1100 sq ft townhouse. Nick has a friendly attitude, great with communication, and I trusted him to work at the house when I was not there. The finished job looks great (clean lines between floor/ceiling, even application), Nick purchased the paint colors based on my swatches and even offered input on how some colors would look next to one another (which I appreciated). He also patched up some minor wall damage prior to painting and those areas aren't even noticeable any more. The painters were very courteous when at my house and left it clean when they were finished. Would highly recommend!

Luis provided great information that lead me to select him for the metallic epoxy job in our garages. He was patient with my questions - even knowing the job was a couple of months away. When it came time to work, he was able to advance me in his schedule, showed up when he said he would and the process rolled out as he described to a tee. I'm adding a couple of pictures that don't quite do it justice due to lighting but will look to get better ones up once the floor is dry and we can get some better lighting on it. Luis knows his epoxy - don't fall for a painter who dabbles - it's not the same thing!

Great Time working with the KR Crew... I had another company mess up the tile in a room so bad... I cancelled and had KR come replace it and do the other 850 SF... Paid more than I would of the other company but man am I glad I did... Used Tile Level spacers instead of just traditional... Floor Came out Beautiful... when from a horrible situation to elated.

We were very pleased with the work we had Pacific Stone Flooring complete. We had Ivan and his crew raise our ceiling from an 8ft ceiling to a vaulted ceiling and it turned out great. They also did the drywall and texturing of the entire ceiling of the house. They wired and did the recessed lighting in the house, moved some of the air ducts as well. In addition to that we had him do the flooring in the house too!! The floor turned out great too! I would recommend Pacific Stone to anyone that needs some work done on their house.

2013 Global Prevention Services in Phoenix, Arizona, had the instruction to restore our home which was partly damaged by water and mold. Parts of walls, floors, kitchen-and bath furniture plus various installations needed to be replaced. We, the owners, live overseas and had neither influence nor ways of control to overlook the forthcoming progress concerning the project, but GPS has proven to be reliable. GPS's estimates were more reasonable in comparison to other companies. All issues like; perfect timing, well trained friendly leading personnel and correct accounts are agenda. Global Prevention Services passed professional inspection and brought full satisfaction to us. Without doubts we can recommend this trustworthy company.

I never write reviews, but I made an exception because I am very happy with the end result! Patrick mounted a tv on a brick fireplace and did an amazing job. He was very kind and knowledgeable from the first time we had contact. He was very precise and went over every detail and communicated with us about every step. He was very clean with his installation process and took the time to cover surrounding areas with plastic to avoid a mess of brick dust as he drilled. All of this happened even with a curious two year old in the home! I definitely recommend hiring him. I have saved his number for any future projects in my home. He's a keeper!

Tim and his charming wife Erica are amazing, hard working couple that is very motivated and gets projects done within a good budget estimate and on time. In our case they were able to finish work 1.5 day earlier by working long hours thru-out the weekend so we could get into our new house sooner rather than later. They completed about 1500 SF of laying hard wood foor for us with fantastic results. We couldn’t be happier with their great work ethics and strive for perfection. We would definitely use them again for any floor and such projects and most definitely recommend their services to anyone that is looking for a great job with outstanding delivery and an amazing customer service.

Jose is a very nice gentleman and was great about responding. He emailed and text messaged me two bids with two different prices. Although he explained why the quote was still very vague. I wasn't quite sure how many plants we're covered in the quote. Then He was to get back to me so we could schedule a day and time to meet up and pick out my plants but it was I who had to reach back out to him. The closer Saturday came for him to start the job he suggested I go alone to pick out and buy the plants even though he had told me that the nursery he uses would give him a better deal. At that point I felt that I was doing most of the work and I wasn't feeling confident that the price that he quote me would not go up and the job wouldn't get done. If he had came back with a solid quote, an itemization of what I was going to be getting, took initiative to get back in touch with me and go buy those plants I would have definitely chosen him for the job.

He did such a great job I am getting another estimate for additional rooms! Don't get a floor installed by anyone else until you talk to Todd

Had this company out for a full flake floor at my home. They were a bit more expensive than the others but like they say, you get what you pay for. Hassle free from start to finish, showed up right on time, took 2 days like they said, and left my property looking very clean like no construction ever happened. The biggest part was no hidden cost. Can't say enough about how happy I am.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
