We had several leaks and a few broken sprinkler heads. Outside Solutions came and repaired them. One was tough because it was at the main water line from the house. They fixed the leaks and the sprinkler heads. When repairing one of the leaks they accidentally cracked the pipe. The house is 20 years old and the pipes are brittle. They came back and fixed the issue. They were professional, knowledgeable and I would recommend them.

We had several jobs around the house that needed addressed before putting our house on the market. The House Doctor handled all of them, including: RV gate installation Island mount hood vent in kitchen Electrical work Drywall repair Kitchen cabinet installation Tile installation I am very pleased with the quality and value of the work done, and glad I found one person to handle all of it rather than subcontract out to several different people. Very trustworthy and helpful. Went above and beyond when an issue came up (ie drove across town to pick up an oven I purchased on craigslist). Thank you John!

I hired Nick to paint the interior of my 1100 sq ft townhouse. Nick has a friendly attitude, great with communication, and I trusted him to work at the house when I was not there. The finished job looks great (clean lines between floor/ceiling, even application), Nick purchased the paint colors based on my swatches and even offered input on how some colors would look next to one another (which I appreciated). He also patched up some minor wall damage prior to painting and those areas aren't even noticeable any more. The painters were very courteous when at my house and left it clean when they were finished. Would highly recommend!

Gave him a list of projects at the house including pouring a new footer, replacing wood rot, and repairing a loose overhang. All were done very well, good work, sturdy quality. Will use again in the future.

Paul was very easy to work with. He listened to our issues, and presented some ideas of potential problems and solutions before ever coming to my house. I appreciated that he had spent time thinking through my electrical problem beforehand. I had a list of things to address, and he approached all the issues as easily solvable. I appreciated that he didn't blow up the problems into something that would have cost me a lot more money. Paul was efficient and his work was excellent. I highly recommend him.

Larry Boning has done work for me for the last 2 decades. He has done carpentry work on my house making it better than new. He has done needed repairs, painted, and has ramrodded the addition of almost 1000 extra square footage to my house. The addition entailed the construction, electrical, and everything needed to make a safe quiet living area that added nicely to my home. All permits and work were done to city inspection and approval, as well as my own. He was professional in his work, attitude, and manner. I can not say enough about the man and his work. He is a man I trust and do highly recommend.

I work with a lot of builders, contractors, and handymen. Larry was extremely punctual and did qualify work. He was honest and got the job done on very short notice and at a fair price. They also did items I personally didn't think they would want to do but they did it, and did a great job on those too. I will use them again. Brad Daniels, REALTOR®

These men were outstanding. First they looked at my house determining what areas of the house needed insulation an any problems. They really surprised me with the issues the found. Best of all they took pictures showing the areas that needed their attention. Their was very fair an best after they finished the job they showed me pictures of the work they completed. To my suprise they found fire an electrical violations. I went with suggestions they made. End result I have a 2700 square house after having the work completed the temperature in my house drop by 10 degrees with temperature outside of 100 plus for three days. They are workmanship of the past pride in the work they do.

These guys tackled a tough job and left the house exceptionally clean. We bought a home intending to remodel. We wanted to remove two columns and discovered the house was not build to the plans. We had an engineer provide a fix with details and load calcs, but that required removing a glulam and replacing with a larger one -- and my family has already moved in. I put up plastic everywhere, but it turns out I probably didn't need it. As one cut drywall, another held a vacuum to catch all the dust. Every time they created sawdust with the planer or a saw, and every time insulation fell through the ceiling crack, they cleaned it up right away, so it never got airborne and spread thorough the house. They installed it exactly to specifications and even addressed a couple unrelated issues without being asked. We expected it to take 6 hours, they were done in 4. I think the bid was high, but they were ready to go and I needed it done right away. After seeing the care they took, I think it was worth the price. Btw, I messed up ordering the beam, so Alfredo had to arrange to have a team come at a later date without him. They came in the afternoon when they had finished their day-jobs. Alfredo arrived as they finished to walk through and get paid.

These guys helped us move and they are great! The guys showed up exactly on schedule, in uniforms, and were very professional. They worked very hard and were very nice to me. They put each box where it was labeled to go and didn't even scratch the paint in the new house.

Carson was the Gen. Contractor on our house remodeling. It was an extensive remodeling of both exterior and interior work. The exterior required retaining and decorative walls with extensive regrading and backfill work, new roofing, stucco and painting. The interior included new kitchen cabinets, removal of walls, rebuilding of an entry coat closet with angled walls, new drywall, hanging of new doors, new dryer vent and floor tile. There was a mistake on the dimensions for the new quartz countertop which Carson insisted had to be removed and replaced. This impresed me as he backed me up and not the subcontractor. Carson was easy to work with, knows his business, and was a professional. The quality of the work by Carson Rogers and his subs was of high quality and better than a lot of residencial contractors in the business today. We are very happy with the outcome. I will be calling on Carson Rogers to do our bathroom remodelings next spring.

Ed did a great job in coordinating the people that were needed to start and complete the job. He did the backyard for adding irrigation, pony walls as well as putting in artificial grass. The job was done in a timely manner and looks great. I will for sure have him do the work anytime I need stuff done around the house.

This was a 20-year remodel, and I wanted my new flooring to have the "WOW" factor. After spending over a year searching for the perfect hardwood, it was time to find the best flooring installers in the Phoenix area to put in 1,600 sq. ft. of oil-finished mahogany throughout my house. As a professional artist, I had very specific ideas about how I wanted my floor installed, and after interviewing numerous hardwood specialists, I chose Cristian and his crew. The quality of their work went far beyond my expectations, and their patience with my fanatical attention to detail made the 2-week install as stressless as possible. In my opinion, Cristian, Radu and Andre are that rare breed of craftsmen that is so hard to find these days. I was so impressed with the quality of their work that I'm currently planning my next project with them. Don't think twice about hiring Europe's Finest Remodeling – highly recommended!

Steven, showed up on time and did an excellent job at a very reasonable price. He cleaned up as he worked, he was both friendly and professional. I could not be more satisfied with the work that he did for me. I had a water leak in my attic and it was a disaster. He was here for almost 10 hours and when he left my house was good as new. Not only would I use him again without hesitation I would recommend him without reservation! I will add some pictures as soon as I get a chance

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
