Earlier I took music lessons in another city. But moved to LA I decided to continue. For a long time could not decide with the teacher, but when I saw Griffith's ad and listened to his voice, I could not resist! And I made the right choice! Griffith real big talent and a wonderful teacher! We are engaged in more than half a year and I can already see a good result. When I go home after lessons I always in a good mood. Griffith helps me feel more confident! His approach is very wise and calm! How important it is! I advise everyone! And also I want to write a big gratitude to Griffith for everything what he makes for me))) P.S. And also I want to congratulate to Griffith Happy Birthday to and wish success in personal growth, a lot of good projects and the huge health! Thank you for being in my life!Highly recommended!!! Griffith is such a fun teacher. He adapts to your needs and abilities without ever making you feel inadequate or stupid. With my infinitesimal music knowledge, Griffith sprinkles in music lessons between vocal warm ups. It's interesting to learn and see videos of how the voice works and how the body helps you sing rather than just going from warm up to song week after week. Thank you Griffith for such a fabulously fun way to learn and become more comfortable with my voice!

Griffith Frank is wonderful teacher – compassionate yet demanding – he doesn’t let me give up. I came to him with some bad habits stemming from lack of proper training and lack of confidence. He explains until I understand the concept in my mind and body and can properly execute the technique / exercise. I look forward to my lessons and singing him my songs (with emotion, of course). I am making great strides with Griffith , and my confidence is blossoming.

I requested singing lessons and received 6 quotes rangers big from $36/hr to $100/hr. I eliminated 3 of them just based on the message they wrote to me and their reviews or lack there of. My passion is indie rock and Jan does not fit the profile of a rocker and she was vocally trained as an opera singer. However, her reviews were positive, she was priced in the middle, her message to me was pertinent and once I called and spoke to her I was sold. I didn't bother contacting the other two quotes I was interested in. Needless to say, my hunch was right and I had my first lesson last week. It went incredibly well. She amazed me. I am a song writer wanting to improve my vocals so I can work indecent from hiring a singer. I showed he some of my recorded originals and within seconds she knew what I had to improve to make my voice fit the song better. We changed the key a whole step, she had me pronounce some of the words differently and she gave input in to what could improve for the song instrumentally. She started showing me current artists and what I could take from their particular songs to inspire some rhythmic changes. she had suggestions on where to go and present my music to sale for commercial/tv/advertising. She had big picture advice on where to focus my energies. I couldn't believe what we packed in to a one hour rehearsal. She sat at her piano and taught me vocal exercises and explained to me how I could improve on them with what I call tricks to break certain bad habits I have formed. I can't wait to see her next week. She can totally rock!!!

3 lessons already and singing has been much more fun! She is positive, honest, personal, knowledgeable, and a great resource! She's taught me to sing more naturally and how to perform and I'm glad I have the opportunity to learn from her! She certainly has a knack for developing this beautiful art in her clients! Thanks Jan!

Learning from Richard is awesome. What I love is how he focuses his lesson on you specifically rather than his other students. He's very open to working with different styles of music and has a classical/opera background, which he uses to demonstrate, so you know he's well versed in the craft. He really takes the time to explain to you what he's trying to get you to do and why, so that you understand it. It never feels like you're just practicing blindly. Since starting with him -- I've only had two lessons as of this review -- I've found that my higher notes, when I'm singing recreationally don't feel as strained they did before and singing lower notes has felt significantly easier. I'm excited to see how working with him will develop me as a vocalist. And the best part is, because he keeps his prices low, I'm never concerned that I can't afford to keep working at it.

I'm a songwriter that wanted to learn how to sing my own music. I've attempted to sing off and on for many years, but never really felt confident in my abilities. In as few as four weeks Richard not only made me more confident, but he has also greatly improved my voice. The reaction of my band-mates at the first rehearsal after several voice lessons was proof enough! Richard is great and he is a pleasure to work with.

Dr. Stephanie is great! I've only been taking singing lessons with her for almost 2 months now, and I feel like i've learned so much. I came in with absolutely zero experience in singing and she was very patient with me learning from scratch. I'm naturally a very self conscious person and she made me feel very comfortable immediately. I've already started to see and feel improvement in my voice. She's also just a very awesome person in general, she's super nice and encouraging and makes you excited to come back for the next lesson.

If you are looking for private music lessons at a convenient price...you have found the right place. Instructors and staff are very friendly. Instructor goes out of his way to help you choose your instrument if you are new to music, this avoids expending extra funds on something you do not need. My son looks forward to the next lesson every time and not mention the improvememt on my son's guitar playing. I highly recommend Peaceland Music...no regrets so far!

I have been on hit national shows as a guitar player and even sang backup without much problems because I could hide behind the other singers. However singing lead petrified me, even after taking some vocal lessons from various teachers. But after working with Marquita I was blown away when I was hitting notes that I never thought that I could hit as well having unbelievable control over my voice which I thought was impossible. The greatest moment was when I actually felt it was an instrument during band rehearsal. And I was even adding another layer to the song above guitars and the creativity exploded. She's also great with teaching to use the voice for stage and screen actors.

Ethelann D.

Verified review

In ONE lesson Marquita had me singing 3 octaves with a minor third above that. I was amazed; in my younger days I did have the three octaves (no minor third, tho) but as I got older I lost the ability and had lazily settled down to mezzo soprano range. She really knows the vocal instrument and has helped me conquer some of my breathing and performance problems. I find myself singing a lot more - even some solos at church. She turned me on to singing again - not bad for a 71 yr old, huh?

Aram B.

Marquita Waters is by far one of the best vocal instructors around. Although her and I are used to playing different genres of music, Marquita is able to adapt to any style to benefit the performer. Most importantly, Marquita teaches the singer how to put on a performance and captivate the audience's attention. Highly recommended.

Consider yourself extremely lucky if you can get lessons with Blake Paulson. There isn't any aspect of drumming he can't teach you, and he has REAL life experience in all of it. You don't just get lessons on stuff to play, he'll teach anything and everything from hand and foot technique to recording drums, playing and recording with other musicians, playing in all styles of music, millions of different way to approach your practice, or whatever else you can think of to work on, and if you can't think of anything he'll pinpoint what you really need to work on and he'll take it from there. Exactly what you would want from a teacher. He has also written many of his own method books for learning and practicing which by themselves are great tools to advance your playing, but you can actually get lessons from the author himself. There isn't a better way to get the most out of the material! Plus (if that wasn't already enough) he has a real professional rehearsal studio to have the lessons where you play on REAL equipment and get to record on state-of-the-art recording equipment that would be used in REAL professional recording scenarios. Blake's got all the tools you need to succeed plus years of experience as a teacher and successful professional musician, couldn't ask for a better teacher! Thanks for teaching Blake!

Blake is an extraordinary teacher who has the rare gift of inspiring his students to love music and to be confident in their own abilities. His commitment to his craft and his passion for music motivate his students to surpass their potential as they tackle a new skill. My son plays guitar and piano, but he was interested in learning to play the drums. In a few short lessons, Blake managed to show him the basics and give him enthusiasm for a whole other aspect of music he hadn't previously been exposed to.

My son Max has been taking drum lessons from Blake for almost a year. He hit the ground running from day one, teaching the basics including reading music which I believe every musician should know. Blake's methods and personality have made drum lessons enjoyable and Max looks forwarded to his weekly sessions. I would absolutely recommend Blake to anyone interested in learning to play the drums.

Dimitry Olevsky is an excellent violin teacher whose style and insight as a teacher can and certainly will lead to many top adult violin players in the years ahead. I say that from the perspective, not only of my current 13-year old, who is studying under him after having taken less inspiring lessons elsewhere, but also from memories of years past when my now much older adult daughter took violin lessons as a middle and high schooler. And indeed from my own perspective taking serious music instrumental lessons (not on violin) decades ago. Having said the above, Dr. Olevsky will be most successful with students who have an internal drive and desire to better themselves as a musician. He can be severe and critical in pointing out areas where his students' techniques and musical interpretation need improvement, and he is excellent in both aspects of this guidance. A lesson sequence is serious business, and Dr. Olevsky can be severely critical if the circumstances call for this. Lesson time is not given to frivolity, and students must be able to accept criticism. A non-self motivated student may falter under his guidance -- unless the process of becoming better leads to increased dedication. I.e., the non-dedicated student may find the pressure to improve more than he or she might like, and the lesson criticism and demonstration of specific ways to improve may lead to discouragement. This is more likely to happen if the student does not act on suggested improvements during practice at home between actual lessons. I highly recommend Dr. Olevsky for students dedicated to learning seriously.

My 10 year old child has been taking private violin lessons for over two years. In that time we have cycled through several teachers in an attempt to find someone who could actually teach. She would put in the time practicing, yet continued to spin her wheels with a thousand different variations of “Twinkle, Twinkle.” (Pass the Tylenol.) Simply put, we were not seeing any notable results. Since she began lessons with Dimitry in February, she has progressed significantly. Her growth has shifted from completely stagnant to shockingly exponential under his tutelage. In only 3 months’ time, she has advanced from Suzuki Book 1 to a rather challenging piece. Last week she auditioned for and was accepted into the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra, a feat which would have been completely unattainable before starting with Dimitry a few months ago. Most importantly, my daughter now enjoys playing the violin and does so with confidence and passion. She appreciates Dimitry’s straightforward yet motivational style of instruction and looks forward to her weekly lessons. We highly recommend him to all those looking to take their musical studies to the next level.

Stefano is an amazing drum teacher. He teaches in a manner that is not threatening or condescending, but instead is uplifting and positive. He is patient, yet understands that the student wants to just hammer away and make lots of noise so he mixes the basics with permission to let loose. He is also very individualistic in his teaching, meaning he really focuses on what you are asking and where you need help. For instance, I sometimes learn best by watching, so if I ask him to show me something he readily does. Or, if I am thinking way ahead, such as how I may use a flam in a song, he doesn’t get impatient and say, “we’ll get to that,” but instead, answers the question and talks about how it will be worked into our lessons. My experiences with Stefano have been nothing short of perhaps the best music lessons I've ever had. I highly recommend Stefano to anyone who wants to learn drums the right way.

Kay K.

Verified review

In just 4 lessons, Stefano has helped me break a bad habit that I had been struggling with for about six months. But more importantly, Stefano has helped me develop a different attitude about practicing in general. Before, I would always be frustrated after a practice session, wonder if I was progressing at all, and ultimately question whether I'd even be able to achieve the goals that I wanted. Stefano's lessons not only gave me the most optimal exercises in achieving those said goals, but also made practicing extremely fun to the point where I would have to force myself to take a break. As a teacher, he is very knowledgeable in a wide variety of genres, and makes sure each student is able to learn the styles of music that he or she wants. Finally, every other month or so, he'll host a group-class where all of his students are able to be together in a room and play to each other.

I started taking drum lessons later in life as I've always wanted to learn. After a great birthday present from a friend I started lessons with Mike. He is great at listening to what I wanted to learn and was very, very patient with me. I've always had trouble reading music but he taught me in no time and made the lessons very fun and interesting. He let me pick the songs I wanted to learn and he would even play along to help me get it right! Mike is a very talented drummer, musician and teacher. At home, practicing, I can easily relate to everything he would have mentioned in class. I love it and absolutely recommend Michael.

Nolan has training and experience in several areas of music, but I'm glad that he has a passion for teaching. He understands that people take lessons for different reasons and have individual ambitions. I have found that Nolan’s priority is to identify these goals; to see that his students progress and have fun while they are learning. He gives my daughter constant, constructive feedback during her drum lessons, and works to teach and challenge her. He is always patient and positive, and wants to know that he is helping her achieve her goals. Nolan is professional and reliable, and my daughter is fortunate to be one of his students!

To say Toby is an amazing teacher would be an understatement; she helps her students grow into incredible musicians. As a student who had a dream college in mind, Toby was able to make my wish come true. After just 4 months of lessons, Toby was able to prepare me for the intense audition season, and helped to land me a spot at UCLA. Toby is extremely dedicated to her students, and it is easy to see that she loves what she does. Aside from being an incredible teacher, Toby is also the director to an amazing flute choir that performs fantastic quarterly recitals. If you are ready to take the next step to become an amazing flute player, start taking lessons from Toby, and you will be well on your way to greatness.

I trust her to make great judgments in the choice of music to play and the instruction that goes with becoming a fine musician. Young and old alike would benefit greatly from Toby's master lessons. Toby was my flute teacher throughout high school, and I credit her for my acceptance into the UCLA School of Music for Flute Performance. She taught me how to succeed in a musically fast paced environment by teaching me tricks about tuning, and how to learn pieces in a short amount of time. I am eternally grateful for Toby's incredible teaching, and I will use the advice and insight she gave me for the rest of my musical career.

Going into my lessons with Paul, I had no idea what to expect. I'd never had voice lessons before and my voice had been an area of insecurity for me my whole life. Thankfully, Paul coaches in a way that put me,a novice, at great ease. Even after just two lessons with Paul, my acting coach noticed a difference in my vocal quality. I was able to realize how I had developed a habit of incorrect breathing and posture and how it was effecting my every day life. He not only provided me with greater skill as a performer, but with better overall habits for speaking and carrying myself in day to day life.

Prior to taking drum lessons with John, I had taken about 7 long gruesome years of piano lessons. My interest in music was at an all time low and I was looking for a new experience with drums. Luckily, for me, I was able to find John James, possibly the best person for the job. Right from the start, John was a positive and patient teacher. He came into every lesson with enthusiasm and encouragement and helped me to feel comfortable. His 19+ years of experience with drums and a major in percussion assured me that he knew what he was doing. John really makes an effort to make sure that all of his students know the absolute basics of drumming such as counting, reading, and technique, which will all greatly benefit you later on. His undying patience astounds me to this day and I greatly appreciate how he never yells at his students. I often have to ask for constructive criticism because he is always so positive and encouraging. However, just because he is patient does not mean that he will slow you down. He is always aware of his student's skill level and capabilities and works to constantly challenge you to a point. As a result, the rate of progression with him is pretty high. I have been taking lessons with John for about 6 months now. Although I was bad with rhythm at first (due to the piano), he helped me to progress at a very high pace. In about a month or two, I was already practicing on the drums and reading notes at a proficient level. As a college student, I naturally do not have too much time to invest in drumming but amazingly, with John's help, I am able to consistently advance further and further every week. If I hadn't met John, I would have given up drumming by now. With every lesson, John makes me feel more and more confident that someday I will become a BEAST at the drums.

I had taken about 6 months of drum lessons and sort of hit a wall with my progress. I needed a teacher who would customize for my interests and abilities and help me stay motivated to practice at home. So far I have taken 2 hours of lessons with John J who is a very patient and encouraging teacher. He has already covered so much ground that previous teachers glossed over, and I feel like I have a much more solid foundation because of it. I would recommend his drum lessons for any age because he can definitely meet you at your current skill level, and it seems like he could get along with anybody--kids, teens, and adults.

My first impression of John was that he contacted me back. Quickly. So right away I knew he was excited and interested to get our lessons started. His passion for music and music education is great and shows through his well thought out lesson plans which he's customized according to my skill level and progress. Speaking of which I couldn't have asked for a better teacher than John based on how much I've grown as a drummer these last few months and how much more confident I feel behind the kit. I highly recommend that you contact him immediately. You know that he'll contact you right back.

Howard Richman is not a piano teacher...he is a LIFE CHANGER. I went to him to learn piano...but realized that the lessons I learned studying piano with the MASTER were not merely lessons in music....but lessons that helped me see outside the paradigm in all areas of my life. Often, as adults, we "come back" to our music...to study what we have been "wanting to get back to" for years. I learned that this is often a time of great change and evolution for us personally. Howard, being so intuitive, knows how to tune in to each individual's needs.... and empower them to EMPOWER themselves. He is a BRILLIANT pianist, composer and master teacher. I've watched him perform miracles with young children who struggled with other teachers who simply wanted to teach "by the book." Howard is always able to find your inner talent and abilities, possibly that are even unknown to you...and he can creatively, intuitively and intelligently create a course of action that will leave you amazed! That's why you are reading SO many wonderful comments here about him. If you are lucky enough to get to study with Howard, it will change your life!...and btw, I can now play a mean Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata"....Thank you for everything you taught me Howard Richman! I wanted a teacher that could work with an older adult who not had piano lessons since childhood. After many years, I wanted to challenge myself by getting back into piano and I wanted to bring music back into my life. I was a bit nervous about making the commitment and about the time investment that would be required. I also didn’t know a good teacher so I asked around. Howard’s name came up. He was recommended as a patient and knowledgeable teacher that would do wonders with students. Howard’s approach is not the conventional one that I experienced as a child. He presents many types of approaches and uses lots of tools and techniques to build your skills and understanding of the structure of music. Now, I’m stretching myself to learn, remember and apply these skills and it feels really good! I actually enjoy practicing my piano. Now thats a testimony to Howard’s influence! If you are looking for a teacher that can accommodate your needs, encourage and inspire you, meet Howard and try him out. I’m confident that you will be very pleased with him as a professional and as a teacher.

Howard Richman is a unique and very giving piano instructor and an incredible musician. He doesn't keep any secrets...though he has plenty to share. You progress according either to your own speed or he'll push you. I have had 5 piano instructors (I'm a professional) and have found Howard to be very insightful and gifted in Classical (He plays Chopin Etudes like the wind) Jazz and Composition. His profound gift though is teaching Technical Mastery of the instrument. An example is his book- Sightreading Secrets - a real short cut to tripling your speed sight reading. If everyone were lucky enought to start with Howard as their teacher, there would be a more people playing piano masterfully and a lot less learning frustration:)

As a complete beginner at the flute, Dennis made me feel the task of approaching it was easy. Within a month or so I was happily making modest music on an instrument I had no idea how to play. I am still learning the upper register of the instrument and it is going much faster than I had expected. The cost of the lessons is very reasonable for the time spent with a professional working session and performance musician. He is very dedicated and reliable. My schedule is touch and go and he is always able to be flexible. Of almost equal importance is the ease of finding parking when I come for lessons. It is easy to get there as well. Enjoy the flute with Dennis. He is also a woodwind multi instrumentalist and a good guy in general. -Aaron Finley

My son Prahalad had taken piano lessons with Cesar Canocelis before we moved to Northern California. Prahalad started out as a complete beginner and within a year, he was playing some beautiful pieces. Cesar is engaging, energetic and very good with kids. He has a good sense for what each child will enjoy and how each child learns. Prahalad always looked forward to his lessons and stayed interested in piano throughout. Cesar focussed on technique, skill and theory while cultivating a genuine love for the instrument in the child. Prahalad still loves to play the piano, thanks to Cesar and the wonderful foundation he gave him!

My daughter Shavanie has been with at SoundCheck for about two months. First off I must say Dan & Electra are very friendly and down to earth people. My daughter does Vocal & Piano lessons with Electra, she is one of the best music coach my daughter has worked with so far...... I am amazed by her progress. She also does Guitar lessons with Josh, who is also amazing...she is finally enjoying her guitar :) Since my daughter has been with SoundCheck she has shown more excitement towards music vocally and instrumentally. I can't thank them enough! :-) I truly recommend SoundCheck, you will not regret it.

I have been taking lessons from Electra for 3 years and I love her. She always makes my lessons fun and productive. She has gone way out of her way to help me prepare for auditions, no other vocal teacher has helped me this much. I love Electra and Soundcheck music school

I have worked with Bob on various levels. First, Bob provided me with private guitar lessons for several years. Bob made the learning experience fun and enjoyable. I was able to learn and play the kind of music that I wanted to play. Bob is also very patience (staying with me for so many years is a true testament to this!). My youngest son Michael also took private guitar lessons from Bob. On a more professional level, Bob and his band performed at my oldest son's (Bobby) wedding receipion. It was a "blast" with all of the guests dancing and singing. I actually received a call years later from an attending guest asking for Bob's contact information for their wedding reception (obviously they had very fond memories of the event and Bob's music). If and when my 2 remaining kids get married, I can guaranty Bob will be going the music. He makes an event a real party!!!

Bob did a great job at my Husbands 60th Birthday Party. He was accommodating with the timing of the Surprise party, got the guest engaged and we enjoyed his music. Our guests had a wonderful time. Thank you Bob. Will be recommending you.

We love having Brian Griffin as a drum/percussion teacher. My son began lessons as a young elementary student, and Brian was able to engage him immediately by creating lessons around the music he was drawn to. Over the years Brian's teaching continually evolved with my son's interests and focus. There has always been an excellent rapport between them, while maintaining the dynamic of student/teacher relationship. Brian has always shown a high level of professionalism, he's always engaged and enthusiastic, and my son has developed not only in the mechanics of percussion but also what it means to be part of an ensemble and just an overall well-rounded musician. We are grateful for his years of instruction and support.
