Brad photographed our wedding, we chose brad based on his portfolio and a brief conversation explaining what we were looking for in a photographer. He exceeded our expectation and we had numerous comments as to him being the "best photographer" they have seen. We must agree Brad was on time and kept in touch through the entire process. He worked well with our videographer ensuring they captured everything we asked for. It is without reservation that we would recommend his services to anyone. Brad is a true professional in his trade and we are thankful to have found him to capture our very special day. Thank you

Joe was the videographer of our wedding ceremony. He was easy and fast to communicate with before the wedding day. The day of the ceremony he arrived on time and found our wedding coordinator easily. He also congratulated us after the ceremony which was very nice of him and unexpected. Joe's prices were very reasonable and he had our video edited and mailed to us in 4 weeks. We love our video and can't wait to watch it in 50 years! Highly recommend! :)

The three top reasons you should hire ROF Industries for your next videography project: 1) They're professional and responsive. Nicole and her husband Chris are consummate professionals. They're personable, engaging, and they do what they say they're going to do. I solicited bids from a number of local videographers (not necessarily through Thumbtack) and ROF Industries was the only firm that responded on short notice. Nicole and Chris were AWESOME to work with and I can't say enough good things about them as professionals and as people. 2) They deliver high-quality work. Stantec engaged ROF Industries to create a highlight video of our volunteer activity at the Anaheim Ducks First Flight Field Trip. Nicole ran the business side of our interaction while Chris and their employee John handled the videography and all the post-production. The process itself was seamless and flowed smoothly: both Nicole and Chris were incredibly responsive to both VMs and emails and they readily answered all of my questions, which made me feel comfortable and well-informed throughout the process. 3) They're PASSIONATE about what they do AND IT SHOWS! If you enjoy working with passionate, energetic professionals, ROF Industies has them! Nicole and Chris are literally brimming with enthusiasm and it comes through in all of their correspondence and in the quality of the finished product. Simply watching the amazing two-minute highlight video they developed for us will have you on your feet, blood pumping, and wishing it lasted longer. Amazing job! I would highly recommend ROF Industries for your next videography project. I can't imagine a more positive, rewarding videography experience! Thank you, Nicole and Chris!

Steven was the videographer for my wedding at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles in December 2013. He was a please to work with, fair to deal with, loves his job and sincerely wants the bride and groom to love their video. He is also fast. I got my video shortly after my wedding and my husband and I were very happy with the video. Thanks Steve! Love, Ronda & Calvin

Let me start by saying, planning a wedding and finding the perfect vendors from another state is tough! When my husband and I nervously decided we needed a video, we told each other we were only doing this if we found someone who will make us feel comfortable, and tell our story organically. We did not want the classic video montage, but rather some storytelling aspects and just something that felt effortless. Did I mention we were nervous? We are not video people... pictures only! When we started interviewing videographers, we were striking out left and right. I think we interviewed 20+ before receiving an email from Attis Photography. After a wonderful phone conversation with Anita, who made me feel so comfortable and confident about a wedding video, Josh and I knew we finally found our perfect match! It was as though they new us after a 1.5 hour long phone chat. It seriously is so important to talk with your videographers... let them get to know you and your relationship before the big day. Attis photography did just this. The day came, and we felt like we hired friends to video us. They were easy going, took footage of what the day was, not asking us to pose, and our guest seemed to really enjoy them! What more could we ask for!? One morning we woke up to an email from Attis...it was the link to our video!!! We were without words when we watched our video for the first time on my phone. We laughed and cried all in 7minutes. Attis Photography produced one of the most beautiful memories I have yet to see from my life thus far. So thankful our life crossed their path...thank you Attis- Chis and Anita you are amazing! https://vimeo.com/user53422025

I am so beyond happy with Damon and his employee Chris. I need a videographer last minute for my wedding and they were willing to work with me, my wants and needs, and my budget. For such a last minute project I am so happy to say they went above and beyond. I would not hesitate to recommend their services. Chris was the videographer and her was outstanding and friendly, and even though he was working he definitely was a guest favorite to have around. Thank you guys so much!

Mark did an excellent job as our wedding videographer. He was professional and didn't miss a beat on our wedding day. I would call it "thorough" (while some videographers might have been in our face, Mark was there without being too evident). A perfect balance. The finished product was just what we wanted and fit our budget perfectly. A rough cut and a beautiful 15 minute edit. Mark captured all the details, even a few things that our photographer missed. We loved our video highlights enough to order a few additional copies. We highly recommend Marabate Studios!

I searched for a while to find videographers I could feel comfortable with. I knew as soon as I spoke with Erica and Laura on the phone that they were the ones. I could tell from their enthusiasm and how much they were able to listen that they would make me feel at ease the day of my wedding. Everyone loved them and commented on their positive energy and also how they were so courteous and polite. My favorite shots in our video were some great closeups they took during the ceremony. The video was edited very nicely and in a fun way and included guest interviews which added a nice personal touch. We must have watched it 20 times in the week we got it and relived each moment together. They got it to us faster than expected and we were both very happy. My husband and I were not sure if we even wanted video at first, but now feel this was one of the most important decisions we made. I would definitely recommend The Vision Field.

Outstanding service and very professional. I get a phone call from my boss saying that he needed a videographer to follow around a celebrity and it needed to be done in 2 hours. Our company, www.digipromedia.com is located in Florida. This event took play in downtown Los Angeles. I find Chris Cairns from Corpfilms and thankful that he was the right pick. Let's just say that Chris more than exceeded our expectations. Chris arrived early, shot the event, is making edits and the rest is history. We highly recommend Chris and will more than be using his talents in the future. Thank you Chris and thank you Thumbtack.

Daniella was a true delight to work with in all aspects of the video production and resulting footage. She is a talented artisan - above and beyond any videographer I've ever worked with. She shoots in a cinematic manner that brings the subject matter to life in a unique and different way than anything I've ever seen from a wedding video production. She fit seamlessly into our small family production - was a pleasure to spend time with and talk to. She was fast in production of the final cut and exceeded our expectations. I've given her contact info out to 10 people already - I'd book her fast - she should be the most highly rated and used wedding videographer in the So Cal area - she's that good. Hire her before you can't get on her schedule.

My favorite thing about working with Luis was his friendly mannerisms and respect for those in attendance at our wedding. He and his helper did an outstanding job with recording us in the perfect manner. We've shared the videos with our friends and family and everyone really enjoyed watching them. Our family members that couldn't make it out to our wedding were in tears after seeing the highlights. We are super glad that we hired newlywed cinema and Luis. Couldn't have asked for a better videography team!

We hired them to document my husband's flight in a P51 Mustang fighter plane, which was in town on the Wings of Freedom tour. It was an unusual assignment, but the professional team at Plus Ultra totally "got" what we wanted and came prepared with two amazing cameras to film the takeoff and landing, conduct interviews with pilots, and shoot footage inside the air museum. They even thought to bring a "Go Pro" to mount inside the plane to capture my husband's experience during the flight. The whole team was extremely positive, professional and self-sufficient throughout the day, and their enthusiasm for the project truly added to the fun for us. I would hire this company again in a heartbeat for any video project that I may need done. I highly recommend this awesome group!!!!

Upi and Keven provided valuable production consulting so I could set up my own YouTube series broadcast from my home. This included equipment selection, lighting, camera setup, supervising crew for my first shoot, and conducting post while creating a workflow that I can employ for future shows. In all aspects, Central Station Media was professional, responsive, and willing to go the extra mile to make my first show a success and to equip me with the tools and know-how to carry it on. Hopefully our paths will cross and we will be able to work together again. If you want to see how this was realized, visit www.VivaVirtuoso.com and view the 1st episode, "Diva Virtuoso".

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
