I called Jose after i saw his pictures and cabinetry work on his profile page. i decided to change my request and had him build a rock wall in lieu of an entertainment center. He did multiple visits, to get measurements and requirements and to make sure he did the project right. The first part of my project was a rock wall in lieu of doing cabinets for an entertainment center. showed him what i wanted, he brought me samples and started the work the week after. It took him a day to complete the work, the wall looks gorgeous and those who have seen it, just love it. The TV mount was slightly crooked after we mounted the TV. He was quick to fix the issue. Took less than 2 mintues and we got the TV on straight and we were good to go after completion. Its been 4 days, and i still love the look of it. We will be starting our next phase with the LOFT coming up in a few weeks and painting right after. Give him a call, you will like his work and upfront pricing.

Scott was wonderful to work with. I feel so lucky I found him! We needed some shelves added to both our hall closets, and some cabinetry added to our kitchen, which included some great drawers for all my spices. His experience and attention to detail, as well as, his fair pricing wins my praise. Because of his great work, we decided to have him replace our kitchen island counter with a beautiful piece of wood. I can't say enough about his great work.

Don did an excellent job of repairing drawers of very dated cabinetry and making them operate as new. It was a pleasure to work with him since he was knowledgable, responsible, on time, committed to quality work, and had a great sense of humor. I would highly recommend him for repairs but also, having looked at his work with the eye of an interior designer, as a possible contractor for kitchen cabinetry replacement.

I recently purchased a home and had an idea to build some "barn looking" doors for a new closet space in the master bedroom. I did not know where to turn, and began to "google" everything from woodworking to cabinetry. I found John's website and was impressed with what I saw, so I gave him a call. Best decision ever! John came out to my home to look at the space and offer his expert opinion. After hearing talk of things like "grain matching" and "color converting", I knew that he had a very deep understanding of not only wood, but how to see a blank space and imagine the perfect finished look. My new closet doors are now installed and I could not be happier, they are everything I had dreamed they would be and more. John's attention to the small details is over the top. I am extremely happy with both John and my new closet ! He truly is the "Wizard"!

I am a recent homeowner in Escondido, Ca and I looked on thumbtack for a contractor and that's when I first found Luke Carr Construction which was an excellent choice. My old house built in the 1920s needed to be completely remodelled, there were holes and cracks in the lath and plaster which other constractors were leary of working with lath and plaster. Luke fixed all the walls, rewired all the electrical in my house, including new ceiling fans and can lights as well as new deco switches and outlets throughout that I purchased from Home Depot. He also painted the entire 4 bedroom house each room with a different colour I selected. He refinished the original hardwood floor in the house as well as the old chipped and base floor moulding, which came out superb! He opened walls and doorways to expose more of the kitchen and bedrooms, he created matching arch ways to match the ceiling. At first I was nervous because I've never done this before but in the end it looked even better than I could visualize and it created a more open atmosphere, I've received lots of compliments from family and friends about the unique arch ways. He also gave me advice on landscaping and didn't charge me to replant some of my trees that were put in too deep (took two hours), and gave me advice on the exterior which is the next phase of my home. He is an excellent painter, clean and neat, matches existing texture perfectly the other contractor said he would try but couldn't guantee it would match. He also did additional electrical work in the bathroom and advised me to add extra outlets in the living room that I didn't think I needed but really have helped me bring the house up to code. Overall Luke is a trustworthy guy and is very respectful of my choices, he gets the work done, he doesn't have a lot of the modern technology like 3D imaging and I don't believe he has a website but his dedication and old school ways worked beautifully for me and my job. He prides himself on his family life, I met his grandchildren on two different occasions and they were sweet. I'm looking forward to having him back for Phase 2! I've recommend him to two of my friends, one of which used him and she was very satisfied. Patricia

Jason Frank just finished a complete – – and I mean complete -- renovation of our 1600 sq. foot, high rise condo. If you are fortunate enough to work with him, you will be guaranteed to be delighted with the results. We got three estimates for this job as it was a huge job. There was one lower estimate and I am so glad that we didn't go for the least expensive estimate. I had a good feeling about Jason and we went with that. He takes such pride in his work. He picked up on the tiniest of details that were not quite right and fixed them whereas we would never have even probably noticed. He is also a master craftsman when it comes to cabinetry. His cabinets are absolutely gorgeous and perfect. He is such an expert in this field that we had him construct a desk to fit in a space that would have been very difficult to shop for. He has a lot of pride in his work and care about what he is doing and it shows. We cannot give a glowing enough report on working with him. He is easy-going, kind, and a wonderful human being and that is the kind of person that you want to work with. The team that he has working with him has the same work ethics. Our project took over six months due to the building restrictions of our condominium association , so we had plenty of time to work with Jason and really see the kind of work he did and the kind of ethics he has. He did such a complete job down to putting the pictures up on the walls of our unit when it was completed as he didn't want anyone else putting holes in his new construction. He goes the extra mile in everything he does. If you want your construction done properly and beautifully, you will use Jason Frank.

Sergio met with me regarding my project and then provided me with detailed drawings and a bid. His price was reasonable and his crew was polite and efficient. He also gave me ideas that I hadn't thought of such as how to add lights to my cabinet. I have worked with another cabinet maker before but I always had to have the cabinets painted on site. But Sergio delivered my cabinets already beautifully painted and ready to install. I love my new library corner in my bedroom!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
