Luiz and his partner showed up on time and carefully packed my 3rd floor, 2-bedroom apartment into a 16' moving truck. I drove the truck 400 miles and nothing was damaged during transport. They did an amazing packing job and were very careful with my things. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat.

They were professional and did quality work. But based on my experience hiring movers for my previous moves, I thought the movers were relatively slow. So I ended up having to cut short and do the rest of the move myself since the work was above my budget.

I had several gym equipment to move from garage to a room. Since these were large, the job Required taking apart, moving, then putting them together. Most moving companies would not even consider the job, or charge a minimum of 3 hours when my estimate was 1-2 hours. Rod was very responsive on thumbtack, asked me about the equipment, and actually looked up how to videos before getting back to me with a quote. When I hired him, we agreed on a date and time, not a 4 hour window. On the day of move, he was running behind by 30 min but called me in advance so that I didnt have to wonder. Rod showed u with Diego, both were courteous. The move when very well, no damages or mess left behind. They had little bit of time till the next job, so we agreed on a side job to put up some shelving. They finished that too without any issues. Overall it was a great experience and I would hire them again for various projects and moving needs!

I rarely write online reviews, but felt compelled to comment on our excellent experience with Reliable Delivery. I cannot say enough good things about their care, professionalism and speed. They wrapped our furniture and moved it with all our boxes (we had already packed our own belongings) on one of the most hot, humid days here - while putting up with our three small kids who were understandably curious but constantly in the way. The friendliness and, above all, efficiency of the movers made the process much less stressful than it might have been. They came in under budget and didn't damage a single item or wall. I am very grateful for their work.

Mine was just a small job, moving the contents of a 1BR1Ba apt to another one within San Diego. The 2 young gentlemen who showed up to do the job did it with much professionalism and friendliness. The move was completed on time, on budget (exactly as quoted). I won't hesitate to recommend to others or to hire again!

My originally planned movers did not show up and Hector with Vazquez moving was able to put together a crew to move me into my home at the last minute. The crew was meticulous in protecting my belongings and were very careful not to damage my home moving out and moving in. Mosley is a great crew lead and you'll be lucky to have them manage your move. I would recommend them ... they are good people and did a great job!

I was very nervious about hiring movers because I have heard horror stories of them taking a long time to rack up more money from you. I was on a very tight budget and needed to move right away. We moved out of an apartment that was on the top floor that only had stairs. We moved 10 minutes away into a apartment that had an elevator and once again on the top floor. Move Central told me they would send three guys and a truck. My biggest consirn was the hourly rate of 125.00. Once the guys arrived they were very nice and ready to get to work. I was completely amazed at how fast and professional they were. They even had wardrobe boxes ready for us. These guys worked their butts off and they wrapped all my stuff so well that i even let them take my big screen TV in the truck. I was going to take that in my car but they really cared about how they handled my stuff. This was the best decision that i made hiring this company!! The three guys that moved us are Lanley, Edber and Austin. They move everything within 4 hours. Since i was so short on money i was only able to tip them 20 each and i felt so bad about that because they deserved 100 each. Thank you so much for making my first time using a moving company such a amazing experience.

Was able to receive a quote and schedule the move very easily through Allen. Was told the movers would arrive between 10-11am on the day of the move and they arrived right on time. Both movers were friendly and professional and did a great job with handling several pieces of heavy and antique furniture. They both worked hard the entire time with only stopping for a quick lunch break, which they didn't count as our moving time. In the end the move took a little longer than our original quote, but it was well worth it to have their help as they were hard workers and took the time to even put furniture back together and move it when I requested. Would gladly hire them again and recommend for anyone looking to move soon!

Sam and his team at Easy packing were awesome! I needed movers at the last minute and submitted a request through thumbtack. He immediately messaged me in a professional manner providing all the information I needed up front. I called him and he assured me they could easily help me. They arrived 10 minutes early for our scheduled moved, had a large truck so I didn't have to provide my own. They wrapped all my furniture with blankets and made sure everything was taken care of and not broken. Originally I had only mentioned all of the furniture for my quote as I was planning on moving my boxes myself but sam and his team were eager to offer to take ALL of my boxes in addition to the furniture. They were quick, super nice and professional and their prices were lower than half of the other quotes i received. Highly recommend!

We were very happy with our experience hiring Credo Moving. Max was awesome! He took so much care wrapping and protecting all of our furniture. Everything arrived in perfect condition. We had a lot to move and they expertly fit everything into the truck. When we arrived at our new place, they continued to work hard and didn’t slow down even though it was a long day moving all of our things. Max took extra care to make sure that every item was placed in the right room, which is going to save us so much time unpacking and settling in. I would 100% recommend Credo to anyone looking for movers.

Robert quoted a bathroom remodel for our Chromatic Coffee Cafe on Thumbtack and then came by to give as a more accurate quote. We were on a tight budget and he was willing to work withing that framework. He encountered dry rot, our sink drain was almost completely clogged, and we couldn´t find the faucet we had bought for the job. He hit all these snags, went back to Home Depot, stayed until 4am to finish the job. We only have one bathroom and we wanted it to reopen as soon as possible. Professional, positive, diligent, and well priced. We will be using them again!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
