I hired Jacynda for my wedding on 4/7/17. She was amazing. She did such a beautiful job on my bridal party and me! She showed up early and came prepared (we were in my small hotel room with 7 other people!). She is sweet, thoughtful and professional. I don't normally wear a lot of makeup and she adapted to that. Can't thank her enough for the beautiful job she did!

Taif was an excellent DJ for my large wedding this past Spring. Not only was he very responsive and prompt during the entire planning process (was always so quick to answer my emails and get back to me with answers to my many questions), but he had such a great attitude and professional demeanor. When it came down to the actual wedding, Taif was awesome! He met me and my fiance at the venue (down in Pasadena) a few weeks prior for a walk through, showed up early the day-of for set up, and delivered a flawless DJ performance which included specific songs to accompany the ceremony, dinner and dancing receptions, along with a MC script. We also received many compliments from guests about how he kept the party going all night long! We were so so happy with Taif and will recommend him to ANYONE looking for an exceptional DJ with experience, musical knowledge and wonderful customer service!

Sara provided excellent service for wedding day makeup for myself and the bridesmaids. She offered a makeup trial and took the time to make sure we had the perfect look. She is quick to respond to messages. The range of hair and makeup looks she can do is vast. She helped make my wedding day preparation seamless with her quick work and calm demeanor. She was so helpful. I recommend her for weddings or any special event you may have!

Absolutely amazing! Monica went above and beyond for our wedding. We had 160 guests who all loved our Mexican candy table, especially the chamoy fountain! It was a huge hit. They all didn't eat their dinner because they filled up on yummy candy ;)

Reverend Rob conducted our wedding in Balboa Park this past Saturday and all that my new husband and I can say is that he was A+ excellent. We enjoyed planning with him and we were impressed that he provided us with many valuable suggestions during the planning stage. Reverend Rob conducted the ceremony with ease, poise, a clear voice, a bit of humor and in a very professional manner. If you are looking for someone to make your ceremony very special we recommend him without hesitation. Stu & Karl

My experience with La Mexicana Tacos & Catering was nothing short of amazing! I hired them (out of state) to cater my CA beach wedding. They made planning an important part of the wedding EASY! Always courteous, timely replies, professional, understanding and provided excellent food. My guests commented over and over how tasty and authentic the food was. They were impressed with the quality of food; I was impressed with the quality and quantity of food (plenty), the servers, and the value. I highly recommend using La Mexicana for ANY event you have planned. They can handle it!

Seriously- Best. DJ. Ever. Peter DJd our wedding last weekend and it was absolutely amazing! He met with us a few times before our event and we even went through song lists so he could get a feel of what type of music we liked and did not like. On the day of, he was incredible from the start of the ceremony all the way to the end of the reception. He followed the crowd and kept playing the music that made everyone dance- and when the crowd needed a little "pick me up" HE DELIVERED. He was way more than a DJ and I will always highly recommend him to anybody that asks. Thank you, Peter, for making our day absolutely perfect!

Bill served as my wedding officiant last month and I was so happy with his services. We spoke on the phone a few months before the wedding and he also came to the rehearsal dinner to ensure everything was customized to our liking. His message was beautiful and our family and friends had lots of compliments and thought he knew us as a couple for years!

Phoebe did such an amazing job on my hair and makeup for my 1920s themed wedding, we didn’t even do a trial run before. I was able to show her my dress and explain to her what I wanted and she delivered. I normally do my own makeup for everything since I love makeup, but I’m so glad I decided to get it done. I’m still continuing to get compliments on my look. I definitely would recommend her for your bridal needs!

Stacy is great! She made great food and really customized it to our needs! We hired her for our wedding and we started off with 70 people, but ended up with 90. Regardless, many of our wedding guests had rave reviews of all her food! I'd definitely use her again.

I procrastinated with getting maternity photos taken, especially since I was not feeling attractive...but as my due date fast approached, I feared I would regret not taking photos. I scrambled not only to find a photographer, but also a dress, and almost forgot about having my make up done! Thuy from Fresh Face Era was so quick to respond and tend to my needs! I've seen Thuy's work through wedding photographers and instagram and was so happy that she was able to help me on short notice. She has a great eye for beauty and used her expertise to give me the natural make up look appropriate for a soon to be mom :). (but if I had a wedding or ball to go to, I would be more than happy for her to glam me up! I've seen her work and it's definitely glamorous!) The make up turned out beautifully on the photos. Thank you so much Thuy from Fresh Face Era for making me feel beautiful during times when a pregnant woman needed it =p.

Just called up DJ Mark to arrange music plans for our wedding reception. He was open, kind, fun to talk to and above all interested in tailoring his work to our vision. He is professional and I can already tell he will be punctual (hence I chose that option, too). He even offered to go to the venue ahead of time to arrange things there so that the event will run as smoothly as possible. Looking forward to continuing to work with DJ Mark leading up to our big day!

We loved working with DJLatina! She showed up super early to set up, gave us a great rate because we were on a budget, used both English and Spanish to communicate with all of our guests and played the BEST songs! No one left the dance floor all night! She went above and beyond, by allowing us to even use her projector screen for sign language videos that were interpreted! Would definitely work with her again... thanks for making my friends’ wedding so special and memorable!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

  • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
  • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
  • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
  • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
  • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
  • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
  • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
  • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.
