I was dealing with bedbugs in my house and it was affecting the quality of life for my family. I contacted my regular pest control service and they were way out of my price range. I found William of Protec All Pest Specialists. He was willing to drive a long distance, immediately, to treat my house. He answered all my questions and talked me through the process. My kids and I are so relieved to be free of the bugs! I am so pleased with my Thumbtack experience.

George Castillo provided pest extermination at my home and rental property. He was professional and thorough. He showed up on time, explained the process in detail, and completed the job much quicker than I expected. It's been about 3 weeks and I haven't had a problem with pest. I couldn't be more pleased! I definitely plan to request George for long-term pest maintenance service.

I am delighted to leave this review for Sean Meeker, owner of Pest Shield Termite & Pest Protection. What prompted me to call was this: In the living room of my 39 year old home, I had observed a crack forming in the wall which had recently begun to open. I noticed the presence of tiny bits and pieces deposited on the carpet underneath. Without hesitation I googled Thumbtack for a referral and almost immediately Sean responded. This was yesterday, December 23, 2016; we scheduled for 10:00 am today and he was right on time. In every respect Sean was professional, knowledgeable, and his level of expertise is unparalleled. Of even greater importance was his enthusiasm and friendliness. While I had feared the worst, that I had a termite infestation, Sean put my mind at ease by identifying ants as being the invasive culprit. He then proceeded to do a thorough inspection of my home, including the outside perimeter and attached garage in order to ascertain the presence of any 'unwanted visitors'. What a relief to hear that other than a couple of ants here and there, all looked good. Sean's quote in terms of getting rid of the ants was very reasonable and affordable. It is clear that Sean is conscientious and persevering, and even more significantly, truly cares about his customers. My search goes no further; I feel confident in having Sean Meeker of Pest Shield take care of these unwelcome little critters who may from time to time decide to inhabit my home; in short, I couldn't be more satisfied.

I just got off the phone with my wife urging me to leave a review for Greg and highlight his excellent work at our Home. We can't express enough gratitude for his responsiveness and willingness to come service our home on such short notice. He did a thorough inspection of our home and proceeded to treat our home against all the insects that were become a huge irritant to every member of the family. Additionally, his pricing was very competitive for the value of the service. We are glad we choose Orange Crest Pest Control for our quarterly service and wish Greg much success.

I just purchased a new home and the house came infested with fleas from the inside to the back and front yard of the house. I could be in the house for no longer than 5 min and my legs and feet would be covered in fleas and that was a huge huge problem not only for my son and myself but for my fur baby as well who is also an inside dog. I had to leave my fur baby with family memebers til i could find someone to come and spray everything. Well my cry out for help was answered in no time by Awesome Bees!!! He came out and went over all the possible reasons for the fleas and what would need to be done to get rid of these pesky little critters. Very knowledgeable in pest control! Answered all my questions! He was reliable, friendly and fast. I hired him same day to spray and I have to say I was very impressed at what an amazing job he did! My flea problem is now non existent and I was finally able to bring my dog home. I absolutely highly recommend Awesome Bees to anyone with a pest problem. They are miracle workers who get the job done right the first time around. Thank you Awesome Bees for doing such an amazing job. I cannot thank you enough. See you soon!

I interviewed about a dozen companies before choosing one, learning along the way. I chose Ken because (1) he is an owner operator, not a salesman (2) he had a thorough inspection process (3) his demeanor was zen like coupled with a clear knowledge of termite control, a likeable guy (4) his price was extremely competitive, especially compared to a third of the pest control companies who said tenting was the only solution, for $6k. I give Ken a 5 star rating with one warning for those of you who demand punctuality. His arrival times were rough estimates. This could be because he had to come up to the South Bay from OC. But I would hire him again any day. Great guy who excels at his trade.

I contacted Ravega Pest Control about three weeks ago regarding a grass hopper and spider problem in my drive way and garage. Technician Marco Ravega came out to assess my problem and gave me a reasonable quote. He came back the very next day to work on the problem; he was very thorough in explaining what he would be doing and what I would be seeing in the following days before I would see any resolve to my issue. Two weeks after his visit he gave me a call to follow up on the results and progress of his treatment. Luckily with his recommendations and treatment my problem phased away. I was extremely satisfied with quality of customer service and reasonable pricing provided by Ravega Pest Control. If you have any pest issues I highly recommend you contact Ravega Pest Control and ask for Technician Marco Ravega. You won't regret it, I sure didn't.

I like how Joe inspected my house even though it took little longer to schedule their free termite inspection. The poor guy went all over and found only small spot on deck. In order to save me some money and not send their busy crew he texted me links where I could buy termite extermination materials and asked me to FaceTime him when I got those. As solid as I got the termite chemicals from Amazon Joe walked me through how to treat that little termite infestation on my home by myself. I spent next to nothing.

Guardian Termite and Pest Control is everything I need in any company I am working with. I am a little high maintenance and have very high standards for work being done. I am picky and detailed. Guardian did everything I asked for and met every detail and request I had. Prompt, very professional, competitive, and very neat and clean. I had a unique challenge and they worked with me to think outside the box and completely fix the problem. I am very happy with the job they did and I will be using them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

  • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
  • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
  • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
  • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
  • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.
