Ariel R. says, "I’ve been training with Rachel for a little over a year, and choosing her was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. When I first started my weight-loss journey, I weighed 250 pounds. I was able to lose the first 50 pounds on my own through walking, but I hit a point where I felt stuck, overwhelmed, and unsure of what to do next. That’s when I found Rachel and everything changed. She didn’t just train me; she educated me. She taught me how to value my nutrition, understand my macros, and build strength through weight training. For the first time, I wasn’t just losing weight I was learning how to sustain it. Before Rachel, I relied on cardio and guesswork. Now, I feel strong, confident, and in control of my body. I’m happier than I’ve ever been, both physically and mentally. What truly sets Rachel apart is her continuous support and accountability. She gives realistic, honest advice and genuinely cares about your progress—not just the scale. Along the way, I didn’t just gain results, I gained a friendship. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without her."See more

Adib K. says, "I’ve been working with Jack on my fitness goals for a couple of years now, and I can’t recommend him enough. He’s extremely attentive to detail and truly understands the science behind both nutrition and training. He’s also one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve ever met when it comes to working out, proper lifting technique, and understanding how to train effectively. What I appreciate most about Jack, though, is his honesty and flexibility. He really listens to each person’s individual goals and understands that fitness shouldn’t come at the expense of enjoying your life. His priority is helping people feel good throughout their journey rather than pushing them toward extreme or unsustainable approaches. A lot of people can make progress by sacrificing too much for a short period of time. Jack takes a different approach, he helps you build healthy, realistic habits that actually fit your life and can be sustained for the long term. That’s what really sets him apart."See more

David W. says, "My review is for my trainer Kevin Abandy. Just wanted to say he is a very knowledgeable trainer. He would first listen to your goals and also take into consideration of your current body conditions and injuries and work around that. Before the start of every single session he would ask how are you doing today to ensure he can address any issue you may have that particular day before starting. He does not want you to aggravate any injuries (he would also get on my case for over stretching due to my existing injuries haha). But a big thing for him is to instill having the right technique. Outside of the gym, he would text you the workout of the day, so you can track progress, tries to hold you accountable for having the nutrition, sleep, and would be very responsive to text or call anytime. The only knock on him is it's too bad he can't observe me on every single rep but that's because I signed up for his cheaper group session rather than 1 on 1 in which he also offers."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.
