We had a small, but irritating ant problem. Katherine and James came out, gave a quick but thorough assessment. It turns out we also have a small rat and gopher problem. They offered cost effective solutions and got to work immediately. They were professional, friendly, and didn't oversell. I certain they will be our pest/rodent solution for life!

So I seen some droppings in the backyard behind the garage & thought I had Termites. I called to see how much it would cost to get an inspection & come to find out it was free. When Courtney arrived I showed him the area & he pointed out that it was just cricket droppings. He then inspected the house for termites & found none & not to be worried he did find a couple of areas that had dry rot on them & gave me a quote & he will be doing the work this upcoming week. I am so far really satisfied with his knowledge & really fair price. I think I’m going to refer him to a couple of my friends.

I don't normally post reviews but Howard just left my house and I am so happy with his services I had to write the review instantly. Howard is extremely knowledgeable of his craft. He arrived on time. He is extremely personable and instantly makes you feel at ease and calms your anxiety. He inspected the interior and exterior of the house and told me what we should do to reinforce its perimeters. He inspected the remains of a rat we partially caught and could identify that it had been eaten. He instructed me on to prevent further infestation and where to set traps. He is worth every penny!

We have been homeowners for 14 years and have never hired pest control. We recently moved to a new home that has a lot of pests and wildlife. We were happy to get lucky with Ravega pest control. Marco came out asap and explained different solutions to take control of our yard. He offered us different options for maintenance. He also noticed termites which our home was supposed to be exterminated from the "home sale" inspection. Luckily Marco took pics and I was able to send the termites pics to the other pest control to come clean up their work. Thanks to Marco we feel like have a plan to rid of our brown widows and other pests. Would happily recommend him!

Overall we had a great and professional service from Primex. When I sent out a request on thumbtack, Primex was the first company calling back within 10 minutes. And I guess that we were lucky enough that the inspector- Gio was around in our neighborhood; he came to do the inspection on the same day. The inspector was very patient explaining what he found as signs of termites' existence, what the solutions they had, pros and cons of the solutions, and etc. After the inspection, he sent a email with a report and a proposal in the afternoon. We were given enough time to think what solution we decided to go for. We liked not to be rushed, but to be reminded the following steps when we were too busy. About a week before the fumigation, Gio came to go through the contract, explaining pretty much verything and every questions I had to get us ready for the fumigation. On the day of the fumigation, I thought that I had bagged enough all the food and medicines that I needed. I though that I didn't need to bag the food in the fridge. Well,.....actually I was told that I needed to. However, Primex's people were very nice.....(I was tired of bagging and packing that time) helping me bagging the rest of the food in the fridge. So I could leave without worrying my undone work. After the fumigation was done, Gio came the following weekday to check and do the last liquid treatment on our fence. Fumigation sounds could be very stressful thing to do. But we were glade that everything went smoothly. Forgot to mention about the price...., we compared to terminix, it was about 20-50$ differences. So I guess that the price was reasonable. Grace from Redondo Beach

All Star came out last minute when I really needed the inspection done asap. While 10 other companies pushed me away, Jose told me he would work it out to help and make it happen. The inspector was there on time and performed an outstanding job. The report was delivered in less than 24 hours. This company worked fast and efficient. I highly recommend them.

I've only had great experiences with Flatline Termite Control. When my wife and I bought our first condo our loan was contingent on termite clearance. Our closing date was fast approaching when me made the call to Flatline Termite. They were extremely accommodating and willing to work with our extremely tight time frame. Ed and his crew came out to perform their inspection and completed the repair work within a couple days of us contacting them. We were able to meet our closing deadline because of how promptly they performed their job. But what really makes this company shine is the level of customer service exhibited by all their staff. They really treat their customer right.

Mary at Legacy called me immediately after I submitted my info on Thumbtack! Her caring and friendly response made me feel comfortable to trust Legacy. Eddy's thorough inspection was impressive. I appreciated the "encyclopedic" education I received! During the pressure-injection and spray treatments outside, in the attic and crawl-spaces, Eddy showed pride in his work by making sure it was done well. Danny replaced damaged fascia and the molding on an eaten door frame and at the bottom of porch posts. I'm thankful to God and Legacy that my house is now protected and looks beautiful.

I didn't see Daniel King they set up the appointment to our convenience to inspect our house. Blake made a thorough inspection and set up an appointment. The two workers arrived on time, were very considerate and did their work in less time than I expected. The test is if the termites are destroyed --and we will ask for a free inspection that they offered in a year.

My experience with 24 Hour Termite was very easygoing. My inspector was Gus. He was very professional; arrived on time, very polite and inspected my house thoroughly. I had 2 different companies come and both inspectors did the same thing, I showed them the location of my problem and that was all they felt they needed to see. I got a paper with an extremely ridiculous price and that was about the extent on my inspection. I appreciate the thoroughness of Gus' inspection and the turnaround for the treatment. I highly recommend 24 hour termite to anybody with termite problems.

Yes, I think all homeowners don't like going through the process of getting their home inspected for termite, especially when you need to get your home tented. However, the Termite doctor made the whole process smooth and pleasant. They were very professional and did quality work. Great customer service and I appreciate them being on time and started working as soon as they arrived. Also, they completed the job as promised. I would highly recommend them. Thank you, Michelle-Tyla

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

  • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
  • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
  • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
  • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
  • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

Are termites harmful to humans?

Termites are harmful to humans in that they can eat a home from the inside out. But unlike some other insects, termites don’t carry infection, nor do they bite or feed off people like parasitic bedbugs. So while they’re not harmful to your health, they can be extremely harmful to your wallet. The EPA reports that every year termites cause billions of dollars of structural damage in the United States. Immediate action and treatment is the best approach if you see signs of termites. The national average cost for an exterminator ranges from $250 to $400, but costs may be higher if you have a whole house infestation on your hands. Here are a few examples of average cost:

  • Standard liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot. An extermination company may have a minimum service fee, such as $150, to come out and provide treatment, no matter how small the space.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites including foaming and drilling into concrete slabs: $4-$5 per linear foot.
  • Liquid treatment of a 2,000-square-foot home for subterranean termites: approximately $400.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home. Pros measure fumigation costs in cubic feet. Fumigation costs can also be affected by the number of stories in your home.
