On November I decided to find a tutor to my son because he was struggling with his Algebra 2 class. In just 4 session with Dea my son is doing a lot better , he even got a 95 on his final. She is not only helping him with the content but also giving him the confidence he needed to be successful in his class. We are very happy that we found her. Definitely I recommend Dea 100%.

Bonnie Cox was a life saver! I couldn't of passed my back to back fast paced University of Phoenix algebra classes with her excellent tudoring! She is super smart and very knowledgeable. She went above and beyond to help me. I have not taken math since high school and never took algebra. College algebra in a fast paced curriculum was a major challenge for me that I couldn't have succeeded without the help of Bonnie Cox! Thanks again Bonnie. Your the best!

Probably the best math tutor in the inland empire. Experienced and professional, he was able to diagnose my deficiencies in math and immediately start towards correcting them. I worked with Kevin for about eight months and my SAT national ranking went from 71st percentile to 99th percentile. He has bookshelves and folders full of materials on integrated math, algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, trigonometry -- he's proven to be thoroughly familiar with effectively every math subject taught in high school and knows how to teach all of them. Would recommend.

My son needed an 8th grade Algebra tutor because he was struggling with a few concepts. After talking to Lisa and telling her more about what my son needed, she was able to match him with Sonia. She was great! Polite, punctual, and easy to talk to. More importantly, my son responded well to her. We had a few sessions and plan on having a few more in the future.

Zoia has been my one-on-one Russian language teacher for nearly a year. At first we tried to connect by SKYPE but we had to downgrade to telephone, average about 4 hours per month. I am very happy with her instruction; Russian pronunciation is not easy and she drills me relentlessly; never allowing a mispronunciation to slip by. She makes the language come alive with anecdotes and grammatical explanations. She knows a lot about art and literature, far more than I do. I always look forward to our lesson. Usually I terminate the lesson after about 1 1/2 hours because I am tired; Zoia's energy seems endless. I also use her You Tube Russian lessons - she has a great deal of material on You Tube (Zoiacalifornia).

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:
