I was referred to Michael through a friend who did triathlon training with him. She had a great experience with Michael, said he was super knowledgeable and a great motivator, which was exactly what I needed. I honestly have never been a gym person. In fact I’ve always kind of dreaded the idea. But Michael showed me that the gym was only one part of staying healthy and that there was no reason to be intimidated. We worked on a lot of things, including nutrition, posture stuff, even mindset. I’ve gotten way stronger, significantly reduced body fat, have increased range of motion in almost all of my joints, and generally just feel like I have heaps more energy day to day. It’s hard to say exactly when it happened, but now I look forward to going to the gym. The workouts that Michael comes up with are always fun and interesting, so I’m always excited to see what we’re going to do that day. I’m so bummed that he left NY! But I get it. I mean, San Diego. He’s referred me to some other trainers here in NY, but it’s not the same. I know I’ll have to cut the umbilical cord at some point, but I’m not ready. We still do online sessions. If you’re reading this review, don’t look any further. Michael will be the best personal trainer you’ll find.

I have now been training with John for about a month. The experience has not only met, but surpassed, my expectations. I am a 42-year-old female with a long history of being active and athletic, but a recent past of putting other things first. So while I know well what it is to be in shape, I am not now and exercise hasn't been a priority for more than a year. I needed someone to guide me in establishing a workout routine and provide me with the chance to regularly schedule time at the gym. I now workout with John three mornings a week. His experience in handing post-injury cases, sensitivity to correct form, and encouraging but firm style are all worthy of mention. Exercise is now, thankfully, again part of my routine. I look forward to my sessions and am reaching my goals - in a sustainable way. I would strongly recommend John! A former professional body builder, his training would work well for those fit and in shape but looking for a guide or those, like me, who have let other things get in the way and need a trainer to prompt accountability and provide for a calendared time to workout. John is exceptional in his ability to adapt and adjust routines and exercises to meet your personal needs and capacities. My only regret is that I didn't contact him sooner!

I've worked w/ a number of personal trainers and had mixed reviews w/ a lot or my experiences. To be clear, Michael was excellent and I'll continue working w/ him. Generally speaking, I have a lot of questions and like to get detailed answers about why I'm doing a particular exercise, what muscles it's working, what the best number of sets and rep range is and why. I also like to know about the science behind nutrition. Why are some foods better for certain things? What's the best macronutrient breakdown. Michael has answers to all of my questions and loves to talk about this stuff. He's always happy to go into as much detail as I want. And he never complains when I contact him with questions outside of the gym. Sometimes I'll hit him when I'm at the farmer's market to see what he thinks about a certain food. He's super available and an amazing resource for total health. Couldn't recommend him more.
