It's a business nightmare. I had a trusted employee whom I suspected of stealing large sums of money over an extended period of time. I didn't know what to do, but I did know who to call. I contacted Stephen Krollpfeiffer and explained the situation. He knew that if I confronted the employee I could be opening a legal can of worms. He instructed me to go about my business as if all was fine. He began his investigation and had soon documented proof of the theft. He even handled the termination. I appreciate that Stephen was very sensitive to my company's needs, and other than a few key individuals, no-one knew anything had happened. I was able to continue to focus on business and, thanks to Krollpfeiffer and Co, we never missed a beat. Now Krollpfeiffer and Co performs background checks on all new hires, so I'll never find myself in the same situation again. If you own a business, you can't afford not to have this same protection.

I am extremely pleased with the service I was provided and plan on referring her to everyone I know. She is also knowledgeable and walked me through her process. She was also able to complete my mailings and file my Notiice. (Add'l cost for mailings but so worth it) She made this process simple! I almost hired someone else and so happy I did not! It was a blessing in disguise! Thanks again,

I was involved in a hit and run accident where the other driver crashed into me and fled the scene. I only had liability insurance on my car at the time and I did not get a good look at the truck that hit me. I hired Grey & Associates to investigate the accident and help identify the other driver so I could take them to small claims court. Grey & Associates was able to locate video of the accident and help me locate the truck and the driver who hit me. Thanks to Grey & Associates I was able to file a case in small claims court and will hopefully get my car repaired soon.

I had a need for a private investigator for a very complex matter involving several states and a foreign country. The first company I hired didn't do a good job at all. I then found Delphi Investigations in California. After a brief consultation I hired them feeling very comfortable with their abilities They handled the case in a very professional manner and the results were better than anticipated, especially the part involving the foreign country and Interpol. I highly recommend Delphi Investigations to anyone needing truly professional investigators. Courtnee F. Rex Seattle, WA

David N. March 2015 review is nothing more than a malicious false review from a person that suffers from PTSD that has no business working in this field as an investigator. This person is jealous of our agency because we get results for our clients. Our agency only works with professional attorneys and other honorable retired law enforcement personneand not with criminals as described in Davud N. Review. Thank you.

Matt Thompson was extremely helpful with a family law matter I had. He was very knowledgeable and was very detailed and fair with his pricing. I highly recommend him to anyone needing an investigator. I couldn't have got the desired results without his investigation. I would definitely use him again.

I have worked with Mr. Sanchez for many years. Mr. Sanchez is a skilled investigator and his vast experience will guarantee a quality work product. His experience will often reduce the hours needed to complete your case and reduce the end cost to the client. If your case involves the need for speaking Spanish, Mr. Sanchez is fluent in Spanish and you will save the cost of an interpreter. Mr. Sanchez is very trustworthy and you can be certain your case will remain confidential. Mr. Sanchez has my highest recommendation. integrity; professionalism; attention to detail; you will know the facts as they are uncovered "not" what you want to hear. There is no benefit to you in a proceeding if you are blind sided by details that should be revealed in the normal course of investigation.

I do investigations for individuals or companies that have internal theft problems. I use covert cameras and surveillance to find out the cause of the theft. Once I have established a possible suspect, I conduct an interview to get a confession along with a statement and promissory note to pay back the amount of the loss.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a private investigator do?

First and foremost, good private investigators follow laws. Unlike on TV, they don’t break in windows or hack into hospital computer systems to get you intel. When you hire a private investigator, you’re hiring a professional to gather facts and find information for you. Although they can’t obtain certain information (such as health records), they do have access to information that most civilians do not. Often private investigators are hired to perform surveillance or background checks or investigate cases such as adultery, child custody, missing persons, hidden assets, or debugging, and theft or other crimes.

Private investigators can be hired to interview people and provide that information to the client, perform photo or video surveillance, monitor activity at a location where you suspect criminal activities or questionable behavior, track a person’s movements, find missing people, do deep-dive background checks, and more. Private investigation can be helpful if you’re trying to get a court order but need evidence. Private investigators can also help find birth parents. Nationally, the average price range for private investigation is $70-$210 per hour.

What does a private investigator cost?

Private investigation isn’t just for blockbuster action movies. Hiring a private investigator can help in all kinds of situations ranging from finding a birth parent to improving personal security. Nationally, the average price range for private investigation is $70-$210, although pricing often hovers between $40 and $100 depending on the complexity of the services you need. Where you live in the country will affect your costs for private investigation; larger cities have higher business overhead and a higher cost of living, which in turn means higher service rates. The complexity of your case can also affect cost. A basic background check may have a flat rate, while hiring a private investigator to help with your child custody case may require more legwork and research, and therefore cost more. Some private investigators work on retainer. A retainer is essentially a nonrefundable deposit you pay to the professional — meaning you have retained their services — who then works against that amount. Here are some examples of average private investigation costs:

      • Hourly rate: $60-$70; costs can vary based on current fuel prices.
      • Flat rate: $100 for comprehensive background investigation services.
      • Retainer: $1,500 minimum retainer required by some pros before starting work.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
