Guitar and drum lessons. James is amazing. Personable, easy going, and professional. Teaches according to student's abilities and desires. Can learn any song you want to learn and then show you in a manner you can handle.
I've been taking guitar lessons with Kimberly since the beginning of 2011. At the time I'd had several years of lessons using a traditional method on acoustic guitar and was looking for a teacher who could help me focus on electric blues rock and move me beyond my intermediate skill level. Kimberly has a real focus on and talent for teaching. My lessons are tailored to meet my interests. A large part of the lesson is devoted to learning her method for blues soloing--at least 5 approaches to improvisation and comping. After several years, I've come to see how these approaches interweave, complement each other and have become an intuitive part of my musical vocabulary. Also, because I expressed an interest, part of the lesson involves sight reading, learning blues and jazz theory, developing rhythmic playing sense, and learning a few favorite solos. Kimberly has an amazing ability to tab out and teach any song you give her. Which leads to the best part--after 6 months I was invited to play with one of her ensemble classes. While I was absolutely petrified with fear at the beginning, this has turned into one of the highlights of my week every week. It is just downright fun! It's a safe and forgiving environment where you can make mistakes and learn, or try things out that might flop, or turn into something cool. Every teacher and guitar magazine article all point to the need to play with other musicians to develop your skills and this is where Kimberly Allison really delivers. I feel that I could now sit in with other musicians and contribute. I give my highest recommendation for taking lessons with Kimberly.
My son has been taking drum lessons from Damien for the past 8 years now. Damien plays many instruments including drums, guitar, and bass. He is always a professional. He walks the students out after each lesson to say a quick hello to the parent. He is always well dressed and treats each lesson as important. He is an extremely talented musician and I'm so happy we found him. My son still looks forward to seeing him each week after all these years, and really has become a great drummer under Damien's instruction.
I wanted to start drum lessons in the area and didn't know where to start. A friend mentioned and recommended Stefano. He's a great teacher and definitely knows his stuff. His experience has allowed me to go at my own pace while integrating theory he's taught me and implementing them in my drum playing.
I started taking drum lessons later in life as I've always wanted to learn. After a great birthday present from a friend I started lessons with Mike. He is great at listening to what I wanted to learn and was very, very patient with me. I've always had trouble reading music but he taught me in no time and made the lessons very fun and interesting. He let me pick the songs I wanted to learn and he would even play along to help me get it right! Mike is a very talented drummer, musician and teacher. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is interested in learning the drums, he'll have you playing in no time!!
As a former professional musician, I have had a lot of experience with music instructors, and know what qualities make a great teacher. Alex has been my son's drum teacher for seven years now, and has done an outstanding job. He is patient, clear in his instruction, and challenges my son to reach his full potential. Although my son is only 11, he's begun playing with an intermediate-level improvisation class in town that is made up of teens and adults, and has been excelling. I know there is no way he would have gotten this far without Alex's guidance and encouragement. When Alex moved to California a couple of years ago, I was concerned that his lessons with my son would not be as strong without his actual presence. However, we have maintained weekly lessons via skype, and the lessons have been as strong as ever. We also send him short clips during the week of my son's progress, and we get almost instant feedback and guidance. Alex has also taken the time to get to know my son, including his other interests and sensibilities. I can't imagine a better teacher for my son. We feel very blessed. I give Alex my strongest endorsement.
Frank is a great teacher. I have progressed in my drum skills since working with him.
Nolan is a consummate professional, both with his drumming skills and his demeanor. He is able to be firm enough with my 10 year old son (who thinks life revolves around video games), yet never overbearing. This is perfect for a kid with a short attention span! I appreciate the way he challenges my son and encourages him at the same time. I have been a life long musicians playing guitar and singing for over 25 years, and with all the drummers I know, if I was going to take drum lessons I would want to take them from Nolan!
Geo is a very good drummer with a great attitude!!! I took lessons with him for over two years and thoroughly enjoyed my time. He has a cool approach to the drum kit that makes you look comfortable and relaxed when playing. He is experienced and knows how to quickly help you where you lack. He is patient and nice! Highly recommended for both experienced players and beginners!
My son started formal drum lessons with Steve two and a half years ago. Steve set the bar on professionalism, flexibility, communication, and has the patience to teach music to younger kids. My son went from a kid banging on a toy drum, to a musician that could play drum set rhythms in an elementary school jazz band. We've had other instructors since Steve left the Los Alamitos area but none of them compared to his high level of attributes listed earlier.
Michael has a very straight forward approach to teaching. Whether it was answering a technique question or developing new ways to manuever around the set, each lesson consisted of my thoroughly learning new information in a practical and very efficient manner. Being a percussionist myself, we naturally have good rapport with the language we communicate with. Michael's way of personal interaction alongside his instrument is certainly one of the best forays into any practice and study of music, for those just starting or already proficient.
We miss Davie. Great piano and drum teacher. Enthusiastic and fun. Your child will love lessons with Davie.
My daughter Shavanie has been with at SoundCheck for about two months. First off I must say Dan & Electra are very friendly and down to earth people. My daughter does Vocal & Piano lessons with Electra, she is one of the best music coach my daughter has worked with so far...... I am amazed by her progress. She also does Guitar lessons with Josh, who is also amazing...she is finally enjoying her guitar :) Since my daughter has been with SoundCheck she has shown more excitement towards music vocally and instrumentally. I can't thank them enough! :-) I truly recommend SoundCheck, you will not regret it.
Henry Newmark is an INCREDIBLE drum set teacher and mentor. Henry attended the Berklee School of Music, Henry's approach is precise and professional. Henry is the REAL deal and his instruction is phenomenal. You or your child will absolutely be learning proper technique as well as music theory. Henry is a perfectionist in the best way possible. My son took lessons once or twice a week with Henry for 5 years straight. Not only did my son look forward to his lessons every week, but he went from being a beginning student to now being a freshman percussion major at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. Henry taught my son drum set, orchestral and snare drumming, and jazz drum set. There is NO WAY my son would be where he is today without Henry. Henry is also very kind and has a great sense of humor. There is no better drum teacher then Henry Newmark. If you want to learn how to play the drums, he is your guy without a doubt.
Steve is an excellent teacher with vast knowledge of drum techniques and styles. He is a very relatable and friendly person who has a method of teaching that can work with almost any student. We are still doing lessons and I am thoroughly enjoying each one.
Lucas has given guitar lessons to our son (now age 9) for a few years & added drums about 8 months ago. His progression has been amazing. Lucas has been both professional & flexible...perfect for our busy multi-kid schedule. Our son really enjoyed having him as a teacher!!!
I signed up for some drum lessons with Aly. I am an adult student and was a little bit apprehensive about seeking instruction. I wanted to focus on playing traditional grip and jattempt to get my chops back to where they were 20 years ago. I'm glad I decided to sign up. Aly is not only a talented musician, but she is also a sincere and sweet person. Her lessons are encouraging, motivating, and fun. I look forward to our sessions. I would recommend her for any age. If you are s parent and thinking about taking your child to her for lessons, I cannot recommend her enough.
I have been studying Afrocuban percussion with Caitlin once a week for 7 years now. She is a very talented multi-instrumentalist. She has been very committed to my growth and as a result of her patience and persistence has gotten me to understand and learn far more than I ever expected. She has developed a very personal style of teaching that was perfect for my growth, I am very grateful to have found Caitlin and recommend her to student of all levels.
I'm an experienced middle school teacher, all ages and levels. Our lessons are fun and dynamic playing our favorite songs!

My teaching career began in high school when I would teach other high school and middle school students drum lessons. Upon graduating, I continued my music studies at two different institutions. I have a B.A. in jazz studies from Florida State University and an M.F.A. in jazz studies from the California Institute of the Arts. Total, I have over seven years of experience as a private instructor. I am able to teach drum set, classical and rudimental snare drum and Latin percussion lessons. I have had experience in teaching students with ages ranging from 5-56. In addition to teaching percussion, I can teach music theory, jazz keyboard theory, composition and beginning piano and guitar students. Some of my former students have gone on to study music performance at colleges, such as Florida State University, The University of Miami, Louisiana State University and The University of Alabama.

In addition to being technically proficient, I was raised by the music of dc so in my playing one can hear a spectrum of different feels from high energy hardcore and punk tempos to the slow pocket of dc's indigenious groove music, go go.
