"One of top recommended tutors in the country- 250+ testimonials. * 27+ years tutoring experience. * Tutor 7 days a week. * I can do most of the SAT/ACT/GRE/GMAT problems in my head. * Individualized study curriculum for every student according to his/her strengths, weaknesses, time constraints and goals. * I get a lot of students who love this individualized approach and they tell me that they were totally lost in the big name expensive courses. * Due to my experience, I can instinctively figure out a lot about my students’ weaknesses and rebuild their fundamentals. * I can teach you a lot of mental math techniques which are not in any book. Recommendations: INCREDIBLE Manny should be cloned to improve the human race. My son thinks he's the best tutor on the planet. His words, not mine. Chris, 15 lessons with Manny Great tutor Manny is tutoring my son for the math. He is patient and explains concepts in a way that my son can understand. He communicates to us in between tutoring sessions to inform of the progress, weak areas, and amount of time he practices. At first we weren't comfortable with online tutoring but Manny' approach has put us at ease and we trust him to help our son. Somini, 13 lessons with Manny EXCELLENT Tutor When my daughter heard her tutoring would be online via Skype she was a bit concerned. Manny made her feel extremely comfortable and his teaching was like if he was in the room. She is a straight A student but had difficulties in Math. After working with Manny's math problems and his teaching techniques she is feeling confidant. We still have a few sessions before she takes her ACT & SAT but I am confident that the tutoring with Manny will definitely improve her scores. Zenaida, 3 lessons with Manny Great Tutor Though I've only had two lessons with Manny, I can honestly say I've learned so much. Not only did he help me discover my weaknesses but also taught me many tricks and techniques to solve various different math problems. He's patient and dedicated to making sure you fully understand the problem. I highly recommended Manny to anyone struggling with math. Paola, 2 lessons with Manny Great math tutor! LC Lena, 13 lessons with Manny Provides services that are rare among tutors. -He's a very, very patient individual. If you don't know something, he'll give you time to think about it, unlike many tutors who rush their process. -Knows multiple different methods of approaching problems, and doesn't simply regurgitate the same explanations when trying to explain the different processes -Shows simple, visual diagrams for many problems (SAT questions, for example) -Gets every question right basically. No time was wasted on obtaining the wrong answer, then going back and trying to figure out the right answer. All the work leads up to the right answer. This shows that he's very knowledgeable -Provides tons of resources for you to look at and analyze. -Is very good when tutoring many different subjects ranging from the most diverse of subjects, such as SAT English to Calculus. Margita, 99 lessons with Manny Great Tutor Who Is Committed To His Students! Manny is a wonderful tutor! He is very patient and makes sure the information gets across to the student. He constantly follows up and goes above and beyond to make sure that the student is comfortable and ready. He has been amazing with my daughter, and we will definitely recommend him to our friends and family. He has made a significant difference in my daughter's readiness for her SAT exams and all math related subjects. He is your "go to" guy for all things math! Olapeju, 8 lessons with Manny Helped my son accomplish just what we hoped for! Manny worked with my son to help improve his SAT math score - he is reliable and very knowledgeable, his rapport was excellent and most importantly, effective -- my son's SAT math score went from 590 to a 680 - and with just a few pointers referring to the critical reading section, he went from a 590 to a 650. Manny's one on one tutoring was just what we were looking for. Thank you Manny! Mona (Jamie), 7 lessons with Manny My son liked his sessions with Manny Learning Math can be an ordeal, but it wasn't. My son was reluctant to go to his first session, but after that it was no problem. My son didn't mind meeting Manny at all, and best of all was really happy to be more successful in his Math class. Manny gets 5 stars from us. Paula (For David), 4 lessons with Manny Great tutor Manny tutored my 11th grader for over 3 months in the area of pre calculus honors and SAT prep in which he he got 700, but Manny is on his way to taking him to 800!!! My son enjoys and understands Manny so much that he actually calls him on his own cell independently to set up study sessions, even in the summer. Manny is dependable, patient and responsive to your needs. Denise, 12 lessons with Manny"

"John is an excellent tutor. If you’ve stopped here to read the reviews because you’re nervous about the quality of tutor you’ll have… look no further and read on. For starters I was only seeking IN PERSON tutoring and was very hesitant to try online because I wasn’t sure if I’d get the full experience. After our first session I felt immediate relief at the ease of working together online. John uses a white board link and you can opt to video chat or just use audio while you examine the material together. John is extremely personable and truly provides so much care and patience for his students. Tutoring with John raised my LSAT score 6 points! Honestly if I hadn’t been faced with so many personal barriers (respiratory infection/wisdom teeth removal/purchasing a new car/concussion) throughout the duration of my test preparation I'm confident that I would have scored even better. John was extremely flexible and understanding each time I had something come up. My score was only “capped” because I had to limit the time I put into my studies. If I had more time for studying with John I would have definitely been in an even better spot. I studied with John bi-weekly for three months. I highly recommend doing once or even twice a week if you can, for the best results. Every single session we had I learned a great deal. John is very thorough and likes to get to the root of the issue so that you truly understand the material. If you’ve taken the LSAT before you might be nervous that there’s material on the test that’s simply too complicated to figure out and think that you can’t do it. I FELT THAT WAY! But I had several “ah-ha” moments while studying with John that really helped me to uncover some of the issues I was having while problem solving. I can say with a 100% confidence that he enjoys what he does and he’s not just trying to make a buck off of you. John was almost too kind with his pricing per hour. If I had more money to contribute it would have been a no brainer to do so, he deserves it. I am forever grateful about how understanding he was while I had some financial barriers thrown at me. I can’t say it enough, CHOOSE JOHN, and you won’t regret it!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.
