My gate was broken in the wind and rather than order a new custom gate Jared fixed my old one (better than new, he added some bracing). I am happy with his work and have asked him to come back to install some gutters.

James did work for me on a retail shop I am opening. He built custom cabinetry, patched holes and painted, built a half-wall, and tiled a countertop for us. Everything turned out great! He worked with us to get everything completed quickly and within our budget.

I cannot say enough good things about Guy and his crew. Amazing job from start to finish. Guy took our small idea and turned it into a masterpiece! He was on time and on budget! Two things that I thought were unheard of when it comes to remodeling! Guy was patient and responsive and answered every question without judgement or delay. Construction Owl will most certainly be our first call when we begin our next home remodeling project.

What we really loved at Curtis construction services was the way that Daniel (the project manager) focused on the perfect solutions to all the small details that we truly cared about. He made sure that we will know and understand how much he wanted us to be happy and satisfied from the progress of the work and he did all he could to make that happen. He also respected and took care for the house during the remodeling and his team made sure to clean up the working spaces and after the remodeling was completed, they spent few days to help us place all the furniture back in place and even to hang all the pictures back on the walls. This was our first big remodeling and we are writing this review as our great experience with them. Daniel, the working team and the people at the main office were great and we do recommend them to anyone who is interesting in any type of remodeling project.

All I can say is Guy Borenstein is great!!! The reality is when you do a large renovation like we are doing on our house, you have your ups and downs. This company excels at communication and does their job efficiently (the ups). And when the "downs" of the project happen, this company responds quickly, especially Guy. For example, I'll text him with an issue and he immediately responds with "let me follow up and get an answer for you". He has done this 100% of the time during our project. If we come home and there is construction debris on our sidewalk or lawn, Guy is the first to call his foreman to make sure there is someone there to cleanup. So far, I have been extremely satisfied with the work Treeium, Inc., Guy and his crew have done on our house. Keep up the great work Treeium!!!

We've had the most amazing experience with Skyline Construction. Eric (the owner) exceeded every single one of our expectations from start to finish. It is so hard to find reliable, trustworthy, caring and genuine people in this business and Eric has been all that and more. He basically held our hand through the entire process of our home remodel (gutted house completely) which included framing walls, 5 bathroom remodels, kitchen remodel, new floors, plumbing, new air/heating/vents, painting interior and exterior and much much more. We have never experienced such amazing customer service and professionalism which in today's world almost doesn't exist. Eric's knowledge of home improvement is second to none. We love our new home and have Eric to thank!!!!!!!

Alan came out right away. Very professional and had all the proper insurance and documentation to work in our condominium building. They took the extra time to protect the floors and cover the furniture. He has a very skilled and knowledgeable team working with him. I am glad I chose him it will use him on projects in the future

Honest, reliable, highest quality of workmanship we have experienced. Stands behind his work and willing to make any changes you desire thru-out the project. You can count on John's word. From the beginning of when he gave us an estimate to the end of completing our project he was here with his crew when he said he would be. He kept on the schedule he gave us and completed the project on schedule. My husband is a Captain for a major airline and his job requires perfection so when my husband says John McMinn's company is the best, you can believe it! We will be making "We Can Do It Custom" a part of our family for all of our future home projects.

Home Designers and Contractors did an excellent job for me with several projects: -- repairing and reinstalling bamboo wood floors, -- installing waterproofing elements on my guest house, -- refinishing 1928 original oak floors (despite some really awful glue that was used on top of them for parquet floors), -- installing a brand new kitchen (lighting, floors, cabinets, new appliances, custom quartzite counter, sink, electrical, etc). -- repairing patio tiles and creating a concrete swell for the water drainage Al and his team do quality work at reasonable prices. My home is much more beautiful and functional because of Home Designers and Contractors.

Joseph is an EXCELLENT electrician. I previously hired him for a job removing some malfunctioning electrical appliances in my new home. I was so satisfied by his work and professionalism that I rehired him recently to fix wiring in my bedroom ceiling fans/ lights and upgrade some outlets. He responded very quickly, arrived on time and explained EVERYTHING to me. I really appreciate his attention to detail and how he kept me so informed during the process. He ensured that I was aware of electrical safety, building codes, and really helped me understand all the aspects regarding the work he was doing. As a new homeowner, he has been such a valuable resource of knowledge and has made me feel so comfortable. His prices were more than reasonable and he went the extra mile to ensure that the work was done with the highest quality. I’m so grateful that I hired Spring Build and Design and I look forward to hiring Joseph and his team for future electrical project in my home.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      How do architects work?

Architects may work for an architecture or engineering firm, they may work for a government organization, they can work for a construction company, or they may be self-employed (freelance). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics explains that architects spend a large amount of their working time in the home or company office: meeting with clients; creating reports and architectural drawings; and working with other architects and engineers. When not in an office, an architect is often at the construction site either as part of the development of plans or to ensure building progress is following the blueprint.

When a client interacts with an architect, it is typically to have them design drawings for the construction of a house or a building. If you are a client who has hired a large architecture firm, there may be a team of people working on your design. But if you are working with a freelance architect or a smaller firm, one person (or a small group) will take your concept and translate it into an architectural blueprint that a builder can use to construct a house. The plans will lay out everything from the depth of the foundation to the materials to use to the type of metal to be used in the reinforcement. Once the plans have been created and handed off to the builder, the architect may remain on the project — depending on budget — and oversee progress.

How do architects charge for their services?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the median salary of an architect in 2016 was $76,930. This range included architects with every type of company as well as self-employed architects. Depending on the architect and whether they’re with a firm or independent, they may charge per hour or by the square foot, or they may charge a percentage of the total budget for a construction project. An hourly rate is typically used for smaller projects such as providing consultation, helping clients hone their concept before the design process begins, or drafting documents and plans. If an architect is working on an hourly basis on a larger project, there will usually be an agreed-upon cap on the number of hours they will work. For larger projects, such as new construction or total overhaul remodels, architects may charge a percentage of the total construction costs. The architect will usually set the percentage you will pay after the total cost of construction has been accounted for. Percentages can range within a firm depending on the extent of the services they’re providing. For example, a lower percentage of the total construction costs may include drafting and minimal consultation and guidance along the way, while a higher percentage could include on-site project management services with every detail attended to. Architects may also charge by the square footage of the project. The rate per square foot can vary depending on the individual’s training, the services they are providing, the complexity of the project, and other factors — such as obtaining permits. The national average cost to hire an architect is between $1,690 and $2,500.
