Javier was amazing! We will use him all the time for our repair needs. We had a washer and dryer on the fritz and he fixed both of them for a very very reasonable price. He is our new handyman for our home. So happy we found him. I recommend him to anyone!

The technician was in and out. He knew what he was doing. Diagnosed the problem. Had the part. Fixed it and I was so happy. He was the second person I called. The first guy was young and inexperienced. Told me I had to get my vent cleaned before he would come back. Then once I got the vent cleaned the next day. He never came back. Waste of $55. Love this company. They are my new appliance repair co.pany!

Nick found the problem with our 20-year-old Maytag washer quickly. The cost of the part needed for repair was too much to spend on a washer of this age so we decided to buy a new one instead of repairing it. But we were impressed with Nick and will call him for future repairs of our appliances.

Hector at Ace Appliance provided excellent and fast service and excellent work quality. My compact sized kenmore dryer broke down months ago and needed to be replaced. Hector diagnosed the problem, found the replacement compact dryer/washer by the next morning and came back the following morning with the new dryer/washer and installed it for me. All taken care of quickly, professionally and excellent quality work with no hassle for me. I highly recommend you hire Hector at Ace Aplliance for any appliance work.Hector is very responsive, shows up on time, is honest, hard working and says what he’s going to do and does it within the time frame he tells you and he does an excellent job at a reasonable price. I will definitely hire Hector again for all my appliance repair needs and will recommend him to anyone I know who needs his service. This was also my first time using thumbtack and glad I did. Thanks so much Hector!

Sam, who came to repair my refrigerator was prompt and excellent with communication. He explained to me what the problem was and how he was going to fix it. David was immediately responsive to my call for dishwasher repair. I decided to purchase a new machine after I scheduled an appointment so we did not have a chance to work together. However, I will definitely call Dne again when I need service. David was veryhelpful and most importantly, very fast to respond and find a convenient appointment time.

Wonderful experience!! I had several issues with other repair services backing out at the last moment and changing their rates from what they originally listed. I messaged AL appliance and he arrived within a couple hours. Took a look at my refrigerator - told me it was a simple repair and it just needed to be reset and to clean the filter. The entire job was done in 15 minutes - I paid him double his rate because it was great service and it was still less than other technicians had quoted me just for a site visit. I will Call AL Appliance first from now on!!

I contacted thumtack early sunday morning. Phil was of the respondents from my query. I got a hold of him around mid day. He was very courteous and very knowledgeable on refridgerator repair. He used to work for sears but is on his own now. I was scheduled for service on monday afternoon. But since he was nearby he responded to the call at 6:30p that same day. Needless to say he was able to diagnose my issue (ice maker tray was cracked), and installed a replacement in about 45 mins. Exteremly happy with his response and service. Keep up the good work Phil!

I had him come to remove a ceiling fan and install a new ceiling fan and wall switch. Because did such a nice job, I had him remove and install two bath faucets one of which needed more repair than I thought. He also repaired my tub faucet which I knew needed lots of work. If I need anymore repairs, I will definitely call him.

Power surges suck! Just the other day a car crashes into a power pole around the corner from where I live and the resulting surge from the exploding transformer burned through every charger and clock I had plugged directly into the wall as well as my fridge, oven and washer. I decided to give OC Appliance Masters a call and make an appointment for him to check things out the next day. I get a nice two hour window vs the 4 hour window that I've been accustomed to from previous experiences with professional service guys for fixing HVAC, electric, plumbing, cable etc. I spoke to Nick and he says he can call an hour or half an hour before the arrival time. Another plus. I was going to be home all day so I was okay with the half hour heads up call. On the day of the service Nick calls me earlier than expected and says he was able to finish his earlier appointment and if I'm available he can come earlier. I'm all for that! Who enjoys biding their time waiting for a service person? Not me. The sooner the better plus my fridge wasn't getting any cooler. When he arrives, he was a whirling dervish of information regarding possible culprits for what could be ailing my appliances and is listing them out as he's working on my fridge. He tells me he was a electrical engineer and will find out what the problem is. It turned out it was the controller board and he was able to give me an estimate immediately without saying he'd have to check the price for the part etc. This was a nice change from the other guys I've dealt with that don't say a word and have to crunch the numbers. What it told me was that he had experience with this issue before. He also had the part on hand and could get the unit back and running in no time. I was sold. After that, he also serviced the fridge's coils, at no extra charge, which were cluttered up with years of cat fur which he was shocked at seeing as he opened up my fridge's service panel. The next item he looked at was my stove/oven. Given what he saw with my fridge, his prognosis even before opening the stove/oven was that it would be expensive and I could be better off looking for a new oven but we'll look anyway. Turns out he was right. The digital display panel and control board were shot and would cost $700 if I wanted to have it fixed. Thank you for your honesty. Finally the dishwasher. Lo and behold, same problem as the others, burned out control board. Good news was that it was more reasonable to fix and wasn't going to cost as much as a new unit. Bad news was he didn't have the part on hand but we arranged for him to get the part and return to fix it later next week. The biggest take away from him during the service call was the preventative advice from Nick. Place ALL your expensive appliances on a SURGE PROTECTOR from now on. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me and this includes even when I was living in Denver and we would have some nasty thunderstorms that would cause power fluctuations like nobody's business so it never occurred to me to put anything except my computer and entertainment system on a nice surge protector. That's all changed now. All in all, it's hard finding a trustworthy appliance repair person. I read some of the positive reviews as well as the negative reviews of the well reviewed appliance service techs for the area and decided to take a chance with OC Masters and I'm very pleased with the results. I'm also glad that I'm dealing with a family owned and operated business since Nick and his brother are the guys who are doing all the work. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

They arrived super-quickly; we had already discarded the three-day old contents of our refrigerator. They diagnosed the problem, replaced the defroster, and told me only one gasket needed replacement. They are still learning English, but communicated sufficiently to tell me what was wrong and why.

I submitted a request for an appliance repair technician and, in less than two hours, Sergio arrived to diagnose and fix our Samsung refrigerator. After leaving to purchase parts, he returned that afternoon to repair the fridge and now it works perfectly. Problem solved! Sergio was efficient and professional and we are very happy.

I was in search of a handyman for myriad of repairs for my rental property back in August of 2010. I ended up doing a serach on Yellow Pages and came across Mark's advertisement. Mark provided an oustanding service. He was even able to meet me at the rental property on the same day that I contacted him even though it was a little late in the evening. All his work was exceptionally well done. We had a really old bathroom exhaust fan that needed repair. Instead of recommending a new one he was able to find the part to repair it and save us a lot of money. He also did lots of cosmetic work for our walls also. We also had him hook up the new tenants icemaker to the plumbing and he got that done very well. His prices are very reasonable also. I would not hesitate recommending Mark to friends and family.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes refrigerators?

Typically, appliance repair technicians who offer refrigeration repair also work with washers, dryers, dishwashers and other household appliances. While there is no formal training required to be an appliance repair technician, consider certification requirements, as the technician should know how to safely work with refrigerants (the chemical that keeps your fridge cold) and substitute refrigerants such as HFCs. You should also read reviews to get a sense of the pro’s experience and reputation. The appliance repair pro will come to your home, bringing all the necessary tools for diagnosis. They may need to order parts to complete the job, but all the work will take place in your home. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
