I have an English mastiff whom I was reading wrong. So I ran into a girl who knew Paula and swore that she is the best with dogs and she also said Paula brought down the euthanize rate at the local shelters. I was skeptical because I have never had a dog trainer come to work with my dogs. My mastiff was a little different from my other dogs so I was in need of someone who knew what they were doing. When Paula came to meet djanga, the dog was doing her normal barking and showed some of her nervousness. Paula just came to just be around her pursay, and it was just so djanga could see that she's not a threat or anyone to be worried about. Paula has the most open personality and it's like these dogs just feel that vibe and soak it up. Djanga doesn't feel comfortable around most adults but she loved Paula from day two haha. I know that Paula can solve all dogs issues if not strive to give her all trying to. She would come in and we would take djanga out come back in let her chew on an antler to release her tension then go back out. It worked, I thought my dog was a goner. Djanga was getting so much better and Paula would bring different things to introduce her too, ( including her daughter). I bought a super nice leash off of her that djanga worked really well with and a few antlers. Djanga got to where she was looking for her weekly tennis ball in Paula's bag and was super happy to see her. That's not the only good thing though she is very adamant about working the dog and getting them to where they need to be to feel comfortable in their environments and just calm no stress. She did that for djanga and I'm so thankful for that. Djanga today is a better dog then she's ever been I still use her tools to this day and it has made the world so much easier to handle for her. Paula is a great person and the dogs love her but she is very patient and calm with them. Her rates are super affordable, and she will come to you where ever you are. If anyone has the chance to work with her or her work with their dog, it'll be the most wonderful experience you will ever have with a dog trainer. The only thing I would change is I would live to see Paula travel and help dogs around the world I know she could make a difference in our shelters today.

Excellent service !! Unfortunately my dog just passed away but the owner and one of her employees came by and did a meet and greet before taking care of my dog while I was out of country and they gave him a toy that he kept near by till his last day..

We only had two weeks to find a dog walking before leaving for 16 days. I used Thumbtack to get some leads. Meg, who owns Peace Love and Walks, responded immediately and we set up an appt. She came out to meet us and Molly. She was professional as well as friendly and helpful. Her price for walking is very competitive and fair. We really liked her background in working in veterinary clinics and her reviews of her dog walking. She and Molly hit it off right from the start. She came to our house every day we were gone and walked, fed, and played with Molly. She sent us emails and pictures of her walks with Molly which made us feel good about our choice of dog walker. Our trip was so much more enjoyable since we didn't have to worry about Molly while we were gone. I would highly recommend her.

I was looking for someone to come to my home the same day and correct the chop job done on my Golden Retriever. Michele responded almost right away and was on the job within a couple of hours. She was pleasant, communicative, patient, kind and had a great sense of humor. She doesn't have a mobile grooming van, but bathed him in our tub and clipped him in the dining room. It was a very hot and humid day, and she washed and dried him in a hot bathroom with a smile the whole time. She handled that, and my dog who almost never has me out of his eyesight really well. (oh yes..he was barking and crying and not wanting to be still, like a spoiled brat, but she kept him in control, lovingly. I'd have lost patience and yelled at him myself!) She was eager to please us and offered to come back if we found anything we wanted to change later, but that hasn't happened. I'm very pleased. By the end of the visit I felt like Rigby and I had both made a new friend. There just isn't a nicer lady anywhere! She was worth every dollar and the tip and more. Also, my family and friends and neighbors have all made positive comments on how nice Rigby looks! He spent the next couple of days acting light on his feet, showing off his new look! It was obvious he liked it too! I found everything I'd hoped for with Michele's visit! This is my first experience with Thumbtack and won't be my last! I have many upcoming jobs around the house i'll be needing help with!

We recently moved to Valley Center and needed a dog walker - I found Heather on Thumbtack and I'm so glad I did. She is GREAT! She comes to our house daily to walk our weimaraner - she gives me daily updates (texts/pictures) which is above and beyond. She has been super reliable, trustworthy and is also very accommodating (coming over on the weekend last minute to let my dog out and walk her). I wouldn't think twice about recommending her - just be careful your animals might love her more than they love you!! Kidding - but she is really THAT good! :)

I went out of town for a little over a week and needed someone to provide care for my cat. Elese was very responsive and professional. She was also very accommodating when coordinating the drop off of my key. My cat seems very happy in the daily reports I revived. I will most definitely be using Happy Paws again!

She was very loving to my dog and did a great job taking care of her needs. Daisy is a clean dog again and I will be using Dexter's House again..Thank you Michele

Ellen has been so great! My pets liked her immediately and didn't even bark at her. She takes my dog to the park for walks and visits with my cats. She has never missed a visit and she goes above and beyond her duties. If there is an accident, she handles it. She feeds everyone and takes care of the litter and even leaves me a log of what she has done for the day. She took out my trash and brought in my mail while I was gone and she is very trustworthy. I hope to have a long pet sitting relationship with her and our family :)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.

We have a 7 y/o Dobie who loves attention and his walks. We live in South La Mesa just in a very hilly area. If someone is up for a vigorous workout great but if not there is a nice flatter area you can drive to just 2 minutes from our house. Please let me know if someone might be interested and what rate would be for 2 days a week. Thanks, Dana
