It was an awesome experience with Benito (Matias Flooring); he was on time; professional in every aspect; he explained what he needed to do and how he was going to complete the work. We had a floor board the was cut by a falling piece of furniture and he was able to fix that one board without tearing up the entire floor. It looks like it was their from the beginning. He also repaired some poor workmanship on two base boards and they look brand new. Highly recommend Benito for any type of flooring repair or installation. Great price as well!! Thanks Benito!!

I hired Donaldo & Manuel to remove the popcorn ceilings in my condo and to also remove the 'orange peel' texture (ugly, 'pimply' drywall finish sprayed on by drywall contractors) that was on every single wall. The last step was to paint the entire place. D & M came to my house to bid the job and I received a quote the next day. They came over to my house second time to show me samples of smooth drywall texture finishes to choose from. They were on time, asked questions and answered all my questions. Much of the 1st day D&M was on the job was spent prepping my unit. I recently had new laminate flooring installed which was a big concern for me considering there were so many messy, scraping/drywall sanding and painting steps to follow. Each day great care was taken with the prepping for whatever step was being done. The first step to be completed was the removal of the popcorn ceiling. The second step was putting a thin coat of drywall over the existing texture, letting it dry, lightly sanding and then smoothing and lightly texturing the final coat of drywall mud for the finish. The last step was rolling the paint on the walls and painting the trim color. The crucial and important thing for me was the care that D & M took every single morning to re-lay plastic and paper covering over my new floor. Every evening they would remove it and clean up meticulously as possible before leaving. It was amazing. D&M arrived every day promptly at 8AM and worked a full day. They were friendly, courteous and very concerned with my satisfaction every step of the way. They always asked questions, never assuming anything which was great. I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat because this 6 day paint job was done with the utmost concern for quality (theirs) and satisfaction (mine and theirs) at every step. I had a 4x8 section of sidewalk replaced on the side of my house as well as a small 10x10 concrete patio installed. They did a very good job , obviously knew what they were doing and reasonable priced. I was concerned about the drainage of the new patio as it was right next to my house and garage and previously had drainage problems in this area. He listened to my concerns and explained exactly the steps he was taking to ensure smooth drainage. I waited to write my review until we had a good rain to ensure everything drained well... now it rained and all is well. It worked exactly as he explained :) I highly recommend this company.

My husband and I spoke to a few other companies prior to moving forward with Supreme Garage Flooring and we 100% made the right choice by going with them. John came out to meet us and was super friendly. We received updates/texts during each step completion and overall the whole process was such a breeze from start to finish. I'm already telling all my neighbors about Supreme Garage Flooring. (:

Hugh did a great job installing my baseboards. Many pain-staking hours went into completing the job and he clearly took pride in his work. Instead of just throwing the base on the job, he took the extra time to level the wall so it would look perfect instead of just OK. Really happy with the overall job and would highly recommend him!

I hired to fix water damage to my floors and bathroom from crack in tub. Work involved taking out old tube (very old) and replacing damaged walls and flooring. I was looking for someone licensed who could do quality work but with a reasonable price tag and do in a limited amount of time because I had family coming in from out of town. There Were a few kinks along the way but they were handled with professionalism and honesty and all was done in the time frame expected. I would hire again because he was easy to work with, honest and affordable.

Francisco and his team did an amazing job renovating the flooring and fireplace in our newly bought home. The quality of work is truly professional and Francisco communicated well every step of the way. He was able to level the slope in many areas to make sure the flooring transitioned smoothly. And the work he did on our fireplace speaks for itself. Check out the before and after pictures below!

We spent a lot of time looking for hardwood flooring. Tried all the cheap discount places and saw the quality was pretty poor. We found Woodchuck Flooring on Thumbtack and visited their beautiful showroom off Convoy in Kearny Mesa. They carry only quality products and were very patient with my wife and I as we choose which flooring was right for our home. Jarett did an excellent job installing the flooring and they are amazing. Really nice guys who do an incredible job...not the cheapest, but definitely worth it!

Reach out to Freedom to get estimate on the kitchen and flooring in the beginning. Alex and Allen came out to my house and make a measure of what my house need to be done. they answered all the questions I have on the spot, suggested me what I should pay attention in terms of picking materials, and gave me detail run down of how their company procedure is on the project. I received their estimate which is very detail and professional after two days they visited my house. I went thru every items on the estimate with my husband, and clarify couple questions about the estimate with Freedom. They have responded directly on the questions and were not trying to hind anything from us. After couples, my husband and me have compared couple companies and their profile. We decided to go with Freedom. After we have signed the contract, we knew we didn't make a wrong decision on this one. Freedom is very organized and on-time company. They have scheduled everything of how every section will be done, notified us not to step or touch the area they just finished and make sure every items we should know about the work they performed. After three weeks of remodeling, we did not worry a thing and the construction was so smooth in terms of work and time. Before Freedom close the project, we did a final walk thru of the job, the work quality is just fabulous and well-finished. We are so happy and satisfy on how they professionally get this project down. I have attached one of the finished pic for everyone to take a look at how beautiful this job has be done. Freedom is highly recommended from us as example and we will recommend Freedom to all of my family members and friends. Again, thanks a lot, Freedom.

1st - I want to say that Bill was very flexible and worked around our time schedule. That is always a plus. We had just about 2 weeks to complete the remodeling of our one bedroom cottage to get it ready for my mom to move into after recovering from surgery. Once all household items were moved out, that left just two weeks for the repairs to be done before the flooring. He repaired or replaced pretty much everything in the cottage. This included prepping and painting all the walls, replacing the plumbing in the shower and vanity. He repaired all of the wood windows, reconfigured the kitchen cabinet doors, bathroom, fixed the electrical problem in the kitchen. He was able to complete all of the repairs on time and on budget. His bid was very reasonable and less than the other 2 bids we received and we were quite happy that we selected him to do the job. 2nd - quality of workmanship was outstanding. He did an awesome job! Family members are awed by the quality of his work. I have hired him for a project at my house. Our family members will be using him at their homes as well. I have already recommended him to my friend who is going to remodel part of her home. He is very experienced.

Issa was very professional. He set up an appointment with my wife in the evening after we finished work. He was very nice and he showed us many lvp samples. He measured and gave us an all inclusive estimate for couple samples we like. He was not pushy. He told us to think about it and to call him whenever we are ready. After couple days, we decided to hire Issa's company. We found that his prices are very compatible. The lvp was installed within a week after we signed the contract. We strongly recommend Issa for your flooring project. He will give you a very easy and unstressful experiance.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
