Marissa M. says, "We used Yury to install our wainscoting, and the reasons I went with him over the other contractors who quoted us were (1) he was the cheapest (but not just that); (2) his pricing was transparent (per panel as opposed to hourly, which I prefer because hourly can sometimes result in contractors intentionally taking a while on a job to make more money); (3) he asked questions that none of the other contractors had thought to ask that showed an attention to detail and desire to complete the job with an eye for an elegant look that the other contractors did not have. For reference, the first contractor quoted me $65.00 per hour and told me the job would take 12-16 hours ($780.00 to $1,040.00). Yury told me he could do the job in 4ish hours, and it took him about 4.5 in total. His pricing was $600.00 for the whole project which included removing the old baseboards, installing the 5 wainscoting panels, and installing the chair railing for our dining room only. Yury made very clear he does not do the caulking or painting, so granted his quote was cheaper, the others quotes included that, but I was happy to save the money and did the caulking and painting myself. Everything looks great, he was very punctual, his work quality was excellent, and I would definitely recommend Yury to anyone looking for woodwork, especially wainscoting/paneling! He was very kind and even did a favor for me and cut some wood for me for a personal project that I had been trying to cut for with a handsaw at no extra cost."See more

Rosy G. says, "My name Rosy and I usually don’t leave reviews. However today I must. Being a single woman and not knowing much about mechanics, plumbing or electrical, it is very stressful to hire someone and just trust them to honestly repair what is wrong without upcharge and unnecessary repairs. I requested three different estimates from "Angie". There was one that only had 2 stars … I was not sure if I should even engage with him. Was I happy I did. Diego was very courteous, quick to respond and answer my question's on the phone, so I decided to meet with him and show him the repairs I needed. He and his team arrived on time. He could have told me that 100% replacement of my doors was needed and I would have approved, because I lack the knowledge and that was the worst case scenario in my mind. He was very knowledgeable, and gave me options to repair my doors. I ended up spending a $120.00 instead of $850.00 dollars another handyman quoted. I could not be happier not only with the cost but with the repairs completed that resolved the problem. He is a keeper ! I have told all my friends about him and I will continue using his services. Thank You Diego"See more

Mike Roozen says, "Best Choice Home Remodeling did a fantastic job updating my house with 33 new windows and five sets of double exterior doors. The products they specified look and operate beautifully, and were all expertly measured, custom made to fit and perfectly, flawlessly installed. They provided an estimate, and time frame and did exactly what they said they would do in the amount of time they said it would take. The estimate was to-the-penny and the final cost was exactly what they said it would be. Not only that but all the people, Hector, Trisha, Francisco, were super pleasant and easy to work with. And how in the world they did all that work, removed all the old stuff and installed the new without leaving one tiny spec of clean-up is just astonishing. Great company, work with them and you'll be gl;d you did!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to put in a door?

The average cost of installing a door ranges roughly between $90 and $750. This price will vary, however — which it’s important to get cost estimates from several exterior or interior door installation companies so you know how much your specific project will cost.

For example, the type of door you’re installing and its material will factor into the price. If you want to add side or transom windows, this could raise the price. Other factors include whether you’re installing a standard-size opening or a sliding door, and whether you need to replace an existing door.

Is it difficult to install a door?

Installing a door is by no means trivial, but it is doable with the right tools, skills and preparation. The easiest scenario is a door replacement with a new door with dimensions that are identical to the one being replaced. Pre-hung doors are relatively easy to install.

But if you’re familiar with this process, don’t hesitate to hire a pro instead.

How long does it take to replace a door and frame?

The amount of time it takes to replace a door and doorframe is likely to take several hours and less than one day. The old door frame must come out, trim must be removed, and the rough opening may have to be adjusted in size to accommodate the new door. Factors that increase the time needed include larger doors, side or transom windows, damage or rot and installing a door without a provided frame.

Who can install doors?

Many contractors are typically able to install doors. Another type of pro you can contact is a handyman. Handymen are usually capable of performing most construction-related tasks, though they may need certain credentials if they perform structural work. A carpenter may also be able to install your new doors, as well as companies that specialize in door installation.

Search for either interior or exterior door installation services near you to find the right pro.

How long does it take to install a door?

A door typically takes a few hours or within a day to install, depending on its complexity and the company that's installing it. It also depends on the type of door, the number of installers and prep work needed. When you’re contacting interior and exterior door installation companies, ask them how long they expect your installation will take.
