About

A little about me Maybe you know the type of a person who achieves these such as high school valedictorian, scored 1420 on the SAT (of a max 1600 score), graduated from an extremely selective college (Williams College, often rated as the number one liberal arts college in the U.S. by U.S. News and World Report), then went to a selective law school after scoring in the 96th percentile on the LSAT, passed the California state bar exam on the first try and practiced law in San Francisco for 6 years. Yes, that's me. I'm now offering to pass along the tips and tricks I learned along the way. I offer SAT, LSAT, law school subject, and bar exam tutoring as well as counseling on college and law school admissions. I have tutored students from elementary school to law school since 2002, both independently and for local services. Here's one example of a student I tutored successfully. We first worked together preparing for the LSAT, advised her on law school applications, and tutored her through her first year law school subjects. To her, I was an "angel" (even through her first year of law school). I've worked with other students during their first year of law school and advised another student with his law school admissions. The services that I offer are the following: * individual tutoring for the SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, CHSPE, GMAT, and LSAT * law school admissions counseling * law school coursework * grade school, middle school, and high school coursework * college admissions counseling * SAT/SSAT/ISEE preparation What makes me different from other test prep and tutoring services? Ask any tutor you hire how many students they've tutored and references from them. Ask where the tutor went to college, grad school, and the like. I'll gladly provide you with the contact information for my former students. My rates I charge reasonable rates for tutoring and advising services. Included in my rates is a curriculum tailored to the particular needs from your student's class or test -- more than you'd get a general course offered by my competitors (always with the opportunity for additional individual tutoring, of course). I offer a much greater value compared to other one-on-one tutoring services in the Bay Area. Why pay the same or more for less? They can't guarantee that you or your children won't be the first student/s your tutor's ever had. There are tips and tricks to standardized test prep, and being intelligent and well educated is no substitute for experience. Here's the first test of how smart you are: do you know true value when you see it? Where I work I normally like to meet with people in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, or on the Peninsula but will travel anywhere in the Bay Area. Give me a try; you'll be glad you did! Email me if you're interested. I will gladly answer any questions you have. I look forward to hearing from you! John Linneball

I posted here that need some help on math since I'm an International new student here in USA, and Lorraine came to me from Oakland to San Jose. My skills on math are good but my first language is Arabic so I was confused on English, also I forgot many things since I always use a calculate on any thing on math. I asked Lorraine to help me on my ELM exam that will be next 2 weeks and I hope that I will do well. Lorraine understood what I need exactly and brought to me some helpful papers and they were really good. When we started I thought that my skills are week and I cant remember many thing, and the exam will be with No calculators so Lorraine started with me from the begging to help me remember everything in easy way that will let me remember it on my test. By this time I'm working on the papers and preparing myself until my test on the next 2 weeks.

About

If you or your child: * Struggles with learning/attention/memory/comprehension * Has ADD/ADHD * Is behind in reading/writing/language skills * Needs help with homework * Is ready to learn to read * Needs better study skills * Wants to read faster * Wants to improve English/Grammar You are looking in the right place! Gina Riva Specializing in Reading and Learning Remediation * Licensed PACE/MTC Provider * Processing and Cognitive Enhancement * Trained and experienced in LindaMood-Bell Techniques * Handwriting Without Tears * Step Up to Writing I am a Chicago native with over five years of teaching experience in the classroom with specialized education and training in reading development, special education, and cognitive/processing enhancement. I have been working one-on-one with adults and children as an educational therapist in Los Angeles since 2003 and now practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. I aim to rebuild learning skills rather than just put a band-aid on them. In each one-on-one session, the student's individualized learning problems, as well as their individualized learning styles and skills are addressed. Sessions focus on strengthening auditory and visual processing, attention, processing speed, and discrimination and memory skills. Academic skills such as reading, writing, and math are remediated utilizing a multi-sensory approach. Students are given tools to enable them to overcome specific learning weaknesses. Reading/spelling remediation involves a systematic, phonetic teaching methodology, which has been very successful with children who have difficulty learning to read (e.g., dyslexia) or with children who need to "catch up" to grade level. Comprehensive pre and post testing using professionally recognized instruments to measure phonological awareness, word attack, spelling, and processing skills are administered to evaluate the student's weaknesses and progress. In less than 12 weeks your child will improve many of their skills by at least 2 years. I have many references to tell you their stories of success. Please contact me if you are ready to help your child reach their full potential. * Reading Skills * Spelling * Composition * Handwriting * Confidence * Learning Problems * School Readiness * Phonemic Awareness * Test Prep * Cognitive and Processing Enhancement * Motivation * Study Skills * ESL

About

Welcome! My name is David Freeling, and I run a one-man tutoring business centrally located at the heart of San Francisco, in 1304 Castro, on the vibrant commercial strip of Noe Valley. Please call me at any time to set up an appointment. Since 1997, I have been helping students achieve their academic goals and improve their fundamental math and English skills. I work with kids and adults of all ages, teaching all lessons personally. My students find me patient and gifted at explaining difficult concepts from multiple perspectives. Tutor and Author: When you or your children work with me, you know you are being taught by someone who has not only mastered the material, but in many cases, has also written it. I have coauthored two guidebooks to the Graduate Records Exam, or GRE, published by the prestigious publishing house, Barron's (available on Amazon -- keyword David Freeling). My newest book, VocabMonster, teaches 300 of the most frequent SAT words using funny, full-color cartoons and creative mnemonic devices. Preview the material for free and begin laughing while you learn by visiting the VocabMonster page. I have always believed in making education fun and engaging. My self-published classic, The First Fun SAT Book, teaches the most important strategies for the test using concise, easy-to-remember lessons. Areas of Focus I specialize in the following areas: * Test prep for most standardized exams including the HSPT, SSAT, ISEE, COOP, PSAT, PLAN, SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT. * Schoolwork and homework help: Many of my clients are elementary, middle, and high school children who meet me once per week to improve their grades and keep up with their classes. * Math: all levels, including basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, precal, calculus, and statistics * English: reading comprehension, vocabulary development, grammar, essay writing, writing and editing skills as well as college personal statements Begin Learning Now Visit my website to enter my free video library. Watch me in action, teaching important math test-prep strategies suitable to a wide range of exams. Video testimonials from students are included in two of the videos. Contact me personally to set up an appointment. Rates My usual rate is $75 per full-hour lesson for one-on-one tutoring in all subjects. There are two ways to save: 1) Students may request a sliding-scale, financial-aid discount rate of $65 or $70 per hour; 2) Students who share a tutorial pay the reduced rates of $45 per student for two-on-one tutoring, or $35 each for three-on-one sessions. In order to maintain these affordable rates for all, I must ask clients to cover the fee for all appointments cancelled less than 24 hours in advance. Background and Experience I graduated from Columbia University in 1991 with a BA in mathematics and completed a year of graduate school in the Columbia University Mathematics Department in 1992. Before starting my own tutoring business, I was trained and employed by two companies for two years: The Math Set and Advantage Testing, both of Atlanta, GA. In 2004, I founded the business, Insight Tutoring of San Francisco, which I have directed until the present. I have worked with hundreds of students from public and private schools across the Bay Area, including Lowell, SOTA, Lick-Wilmerding, UC Berkeley, the San Francisco School, University High School, Saint Ignatius, and many others. For a combined 10 years, I conducted on-site, comprehensive SAT prep classes at the International High School (FAIS/IHS) and Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep. Parent and Volunteer I am the proud parent of three children myself and am happy to give back to the community by volunteering as a classroom tutor about two hours per week in their elementary school. Word on the Street I often overhear my students saying this: "I learned more in one hour with David than in one week of math at school."

About

I had a lovely experience with MyGuru. They quickly found me a great GMAT tutor that would've cost me at least 2x as much at one if the big test prep companies, not to mention mine was probably better qualified. Overall easy and great experience!

About

At Zenith Tutoring, our methods are flexible and personal. While many companies have "a one-size-fits-all approach" to the SAT, we adapt our methods to suit individual student's needs. We recognize that not everyone learns from the same way and have a variety of strategies to help students play on his/her strengths while improving his/her weaknesses. We provide unparalleled coaching/tutoring for SAT test preparation, ACT test preparation, college admissions, and virtually all academic subjects. We approach tutoring holistically, defining education broadly and seeking to tailor our services to the needs of each student. We consider expertise a necessary but insufficient condition; our tutors are patient, friendly, and enthusiastic about the subjects they teach.

About

I graduated from Marin Catholic High School with a 3.901 GPA. I have studied across North America, from New York to Mexico, writing countless works ranging from philosophical essays and persuasive prose to Spanish stories, and I am even pursuing a side career in dancing, using 17 years of experience supplemented with a disc jockeying apprenticeship to make that happen. I am fluent in Spanish, teach math into second-year college calculus and assist in college admissions test prep. One of my students raised her SAT score from a 1530 to a 2050 and another whom I trained for the ACT improved by eight points, finishing at a 31. In the moments of my life where I found what I was passionate about, what I love, I recall a single teacher or friend giving me inspiration. Looking back at how invaluable mentors and tutors were in my experiences, I wish to share that inspiration with the next generation of students and hopefully be their next catalyst towards a successful future.
