Scott is passionate about his work and is an accomplish artist. In terms of business he is professional and personable. His prices are fair and his turn around is fast. Mark is fantastic. He did several jobs at our home in Redlands, and completed them very efficiently. All work was done to the highest standards, and very quickly. Everything from start to finish in each job went exactly as planned and Mark conducts himself like a true professional. Coming from a family of contractors, I can genuinely say that Coastal Handyman Connection is the real deal. Fantastic work at a very reasonable price!

This is my big thank you to Mana Design. I simply loved what Mazi did in my new home. Not only is Mazi talented and professional, but he is a pleasure to work with. His passion and knowledge of Feng Shui is impressive and infectious. As a designer myself I can speak to his amazing eye for color and material. I have seen Mazi take a plain home with white walls and little architectural detail and turn it into a beautiful, colorful, fun, and functional home. He makes projects come to life almost effortlessly. His computer skill is awesome. I loved his rendering and visualization. Every penny was worthy that i spent with him. If I need Feng Shui, color or design consultant, or even just a little design inspiration Mazi is it! Thank You to Mazi and his company. Highly Recommended!!!

Yes, some would think that one wood blind is the same as any wood blind. I regretfully found out that this is not true. I thought I would save time and just purchase the builders window blinds package that was offered when I was selecting the options for my new home. Well, after only six months of living in my home the wood blinds started to warp and crack. They made my brand new home look terrible. It was a terrible investment. I found Made in the Shade Blinds & More and they were able to schedule an appointment with me the following day. They came and educated me on the fact that all wood blinds are not alike and I just wasted a lot of money. They were able to show me wood blinds samples, explain and show me the difference between the wood blinds they offer and the ones installed in my house. All of the window treatments they offer come with a limited life-time warranty. The kicker is - I paid just a little bit more than I did when I purchased the builder package. Made in the Shade Blinds & More is an excellent company and I highly highly recommend them.

We bought a home that was 8 years old and wanted to have the living room and study "sparkle". We hired Michael to make our small space become the perfect space. He lived up to his reputation of innovative designs. He worked with us and our budget to get everything right. He also was available to guide our contractor to make sure our design was executed perfectly. No negatives except we wanted more of his ideas for the rest of the house but did not have the funds to do more.

We had a great experience working with Sandi! Our outdated family room and eating area needed some change, but we didn't know where to start. Sandi was able to transform the room into a modern space that's become our favorite place in the house! She was easy to work with and after the initial design consultation provided suggestions for specific items we wanted to purchase and created mood boards and 3D pictures so we could see what the room would look like. She has a great eye for design and provided advice on color selection, decor items, and furniture placement while making sure the room was family-friendly and would grow with us through the years. Sandi is warm, thoughtful, professional and makes the design and remodel process smooth and enjoyable. She was considerate of our budget, schedule and was easy to communicate with. I would highly recommend Sandi Kaneko Interiors!

I was referred to Mark by a friend who hired him to design his house, which I thought was knock out! He has a great eye for balancing all design elements and really knows design. He came up with so many ideas I would never have thought of, I just stopped counting and trusted him to get me the result I was after. My home came out better than I could have dreamed of and its all because I trusted him to be the pro and let him do his thing! You will not be sorry if you choose to work with him.

Working as a partner in Patrick Max Design is very satisfying as we help homeowners make their designs come to reality. The most important aspect of the project is our relationship with the homeowners. Many of them have a small idea of what they want their home to look like and how things function, but bringing that to reality is a whole different challenge. Staying within a specific budget is very important, and we help clients use their finances in a creative and productive way. Quality surfaces and creative ideas help bring an ordinary room into an extra- ordinary room where client’s pride in their remodel is endless. All our clients say the minor expense of hiring us is the best thing they did in the course of their remodel. That makes us happy.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
