Working with Dan was amazing! He is professional, extremely knowledgeable and exceptionally talented. We left after our first 90 minute session with exactly what we were looking for and a choreographed dance to practice for our mother-son dance. We also had an opportunity to watch a couple come in for their last visit before their wedding. The groom reported they had a little experience before beginning but their dance was remarkable—With lifts and creativity and drama... It was beautiful and clearly they were delighted and had had a lot of fun. Dan is Extraordinary. An A+++dance instructor.

Private lessons with Jeremy are always fun (he was our teacher for over two years). He has a one-of-a-kind talent for explaining dance moves and creating metaphors that help you "get" both, the technical and the performing aspects of the dance. His choreography, for leader and follower, is always creative and really captures the mood of each dance. Overall, two thumbs up and highly recommend for dancers of any level. We also took a few group classes that Carolyn taught. She's a friendly, easy-going instructor who makes everyone welcome, regardless of skill level. Take her class (or do a private lesson with her) as a fun and light date night activity. :)

Emily helped us with our wedding first dance from teaching the basic steps to choreograph then polish our dance. The dance was a huge success. Everybody was so impressed! Emily's enthusiasm and energy is contagious, even my reluctant husband enjoyed her lessons greatly.

Dina was a great dance instructor and very friendly. My fiancé and I took private dance lessons for our first dance. My fiancé had very little dance practice but she helped both of us perfect our skills for our big day. We didn’t feel pressured nor judged of our skills. Highly recommend any couples seeking lessons. We looked forward to our weekend lessons. Thanks!!

We booked a couple of sessions with Desiree for our first dance, and I have to say it was well worth it!!! We initially didn't think we wanted a choreographed dance for our wedding, but she understood our style and crafted the perfect flow for what we wanted. We also told her that the music theme was going to be late 90s-early 00s hip hop & rnb tracklist, so she was able to whip up a perfect dance style for us that didn't make anything too cheesy or off-topic. She was always so accommodating with our schedule and location. She also had A LOT of patience dealing with both me and my husband, where the both of us have 2 left feet and absolutely ZERO experience in dance. Even after we got our moves down, she helped record our practice sessions so we were able to take it home and practice. Thank you Desiree!!

I have been taking ballroom dancing lessons with Daniel for over 4 years. He is funny, patient, and full of energy. He can teach you how to dance even if you think you have 4 left feet. He will find many different ways and customize to the students' need to explain a step or a pattern. I enjoy the learning process in addition to the results I achieved. A great dance teacher that think and teach out of the box and still keep the box in sight!

Precise is a great teacher that knows how to break down steps for beginners. I had very little dance experience before I started with Break Right, but I've always had fun. I get a good workout and leave feeling good about my progress.

I have been learning dance from Sonly for more than 10 years. She is a great dancer ( simply a professional dander in my eye as I see at dance show/contests) and at a same time a great teacher. Her passion for teaching is so strong that you are inspired to learn and to improve (I was a person who was too shy to dance when I started with Sonly and become one who has good confidence of myself). What makes her exceptional is her insight of music and lead you to dance with understanding of music. I am also very impressed by her teaching ability that she sees exactly and precisely in each individual what to work on. She is also sensitive to feelings of students and coach in way you feel comfortable. I love Sonly!!! Trust me, you will lover her to be your teacher!!!

Hebert choreographed my daughters dances for her Quinceañera. He practiced each week with the kids until they got the moves down. At the end, the group looked like professional dancers-even the kids who have never danced before. He really goes above and beyond. I highly recommend him.

Nikolai is my Latin dance teacher and I have been dancing with him since January 2018. In a short amount of time, I have improved my dancing so much that we competed at the San Francisco Open in April 2018 on the Open Silver category earning 1st places in all single dances (chacha, samba, rumba, pasodoble and jive). Nik is an expert dance teacher who has great knowledge and enthusiasm. He is patient and gives just the right level of instruction and correction. I enjoyed every dance lesson with Nik and I highly recommend him.

Prior to being a student of Monica Santana, never in my life would I step foot on a dance floor. Apprehensively, I scheduled my first class. With the warmest and most sincere of smiles, Monica made her introduction. I pulled out my phone, showed her a salsa video I had found on YouTube, "Monica please, that...that's what I want to do. That's what I want to be." She laughed and assured me, "we'll get you there! Let's practice!" Within moments of meeting, I was entrusting her with the momentous task of turning my clumsy, uncoordinated, anxiety-ridden self into something that might resemble a dancer. To be sure, that's exactly what she did. From our very first lesson Monica encouraged me to get out and dance socially, but I was incredibly timid, and my long history with social anxiety had me convinced I just was not ready. She helped me to work through that anxiety; in the most sincere and painless way possible. It was detailed instruction, confidence, and immense passion for dance that she delivered with each and every lesson. Weeks turned to months and my confidence on the dance floor grew. I approached each and every lesson with the same great enthusiasm for dance that Monica radiates with. I decided one night that I would go out and dance socially. I went to a club in Mountain View where I danced salsa and bachata all night. After the last dance of the evening, I was approached by a few of the ladies that I had danced with that evening. My dance partners that evening complimented my ability to lead and expressed their gratitude, and a few that I hadn't danced with approached to ask me how I learned to dance so well. In my following lesson with Monica, I don't know which of us was more excited for my progress. With each lesson Monica introduced new techniques, patterns and styling movements that complimented the last. Never did I get a feeling of stagnation or that our time was without structure or purpose. We would begin each lesson reviewing to different songs before elaborating upon something or moving on to something more challenging. Monica is very talented at recognizing just when to slow things down and incredibly receptive to requests. I thank her endlessly for her patience. I've since moved hours away and continuing my lessons with Monica is unfortunately, impractical. Yet everywhere I go dancing I've been complimented, "you lead that really smooth!", "I really enjoy dancing with you! I felt like I learned a lot!", and my favorite from another instructor, "wow, you have such a great frame!" I realize that this has been an unapologetically glowing review, and that is because I have every confidence that Monica will deliver the learning experience you're looking for. Her knowledge is rivaled only by her passion for teaching. I can say with confidence there is not another instructor to deliver the same value in terms of professionalism and progressive development. With her encouragement, I've taken lessons with other instructors. While yes, there's something new to be learned from everyone - I never once felt like I'd ever come close to skill ceiling I might attain by continued lessons with Monica.

I started with no dancing experience at all. I’ve been taking dance lessons from Ashley Campos for 4 years now. She is a very professional dance teacher. She teaches all ages, men and women. She provides highly qualified personalized instruction, and inspires individual artistic confidence. She personalizes each dance lesson based on your individual needs, desires, and goals. She'll adopt to your pace and take you from where you are, whether you’re experienced dancer or beginner.

My partner and I took dance lessons from Justin for about a year and a half. In the course of 20+ lessons, he took our rudimentary understanding of dance to a competitive level. I always felt like he was sensitive to our comfort level and made very complex styles and moves accessible to us. Few teachers have an understanding of club, international and competitive dance styles in the way that Justin does. He is a gifted, patient and extremely fun teacher.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do dance lessons cost?

Adults who want to learn to dance, whether to prepare for a wedding or to meet new people, often enjoy taking dance lessons from an experienced dance instructor. Instructors may offer classes one-on-one to individual students or couples, or to small groups. The national average cost for a dance instructor ranges from $30 to $50. Some studios offer a discounted introductory lessons or group lessons, as well as package deals that are more affordable than paying for individual lessons. Some dance instructors will travel to the student’s home, which usually costs more, while others hold small-group sessions in their studios. If you choose a small-group class, expect to pay less than for individual dance lessons.
