Tammy is so incredibly gifted , spiritually intuitive and empowering. I met with her not knowing what to expect and came out so blown away and eager to learn more and meet again! I received a ReikI healing , hypnotherapy, and tarot which were all right on point with my needs for insight , spiritual healing and a push towards growth and letting go of fear. I highly reccomend her and feel 2 sessions with her =20 traditional therapy sessions. If your ready to really face yourself and dig deep, she can really guide and support you.

Dr. McGrail helped me live my best life. I started seeing him because I was suffering from severe anxiety and I wanted to see if hypnosis would help. Nothing else was helping, not exercise, not medication, and not cognitive behavioral therepy, not for me anyways. I was skeptical because I didn’t know much about hypnotherapy, but i was desperately searching for help and something in the universe called me to Dr. McGrail. When we first started, I had relentless anxious thoughts, PTSD, and generalized anxiety. Every moment of my life was anxious, even in my sleep with nightmares. I had suicidal thoughts and fantasies because i just couldn’t see a way out of my anxiety. I started making progress after the 1st session, but after the 4th session i was on my way to being a new person. I could relax again at home. I had moments of peace and calm that i hadn’t had in over two years. I could enjoy my time with friends and family and be present instead of being in my own thoughts. I could see a new life for myself. I regained my hope. Once I could see the possibility for peace inside myself, things started to change quickly. I more peace and happiness inside me than i could have imagined when i started. I continue to use what i have learned from him even a year later. I can truly say that i am back to being myself and i feel renewed. No longer weighed down and held back by my anxiety. I am more confident and moving my career forward. Even taking chances and opportunities that would have scared me away before. For as long as i can remember, whenever i had a wish to make (on a star or dandelion), i wished to be happy. Now i do not have to make that wish, i already have it The work that we did together saved my life. I am so grateful for Dr. McGrail and the transformation he guided me through.

I went out on disability in 2014 for depression, anxiety and PSTD. I was also having major issues with shame and guilt stemming from past sexual, physical and emotional abuse, as well as drug abuse and a plethora or other issues. It got so bad at times that suicide seemed like the only way out of my despair. It was a very scary time for me, one that I thought I would never recover from, that is, until I met Cristi. She was literally a life saver. I refer to her in the past tense since I no longer need to see her, at least not on regular basis. I still like to see her every now and again for "maintenance". She is a wonderful person, a listener and truly cares about her patients. She's very easy to talk with and provides real life solutions, tools, advise and guidance. I truly consider her to be a "friend", a friend that I know will always be there for me. She has helped me so much that I was able to go back to work in a field with a very high stress situation. I would recommend her to anyone and everyone who is ready and willing to get real, learn the tools that one needs to overcome their issues and learn real life coping skills that will last a life time. Thank you Cristi for all that you've done for me. You are truly an angel.

Like you out there looking for help, I went on this sight as a last resort. I was so sad, hopeless, depressed. Been to many different doctors, therapists for the last 10 years . Because of problems with our son 26,living at home, stealing, drugs,no social life, getting more and more aggressive with myself and my husband could not get rid of him and loved him so much but hated what he was doing to himself and out family. After scrolling through names of more doctors and therapists I just saw the same old stuff I had been hearing. Then Michael's post caught my eye and I instantly felt this is different and I like what he is saying. When I read he was a "LifeCoach" I am thinking what? Those are only for rich people and movie stars. I could not have been more wrong.I emailed him, he got right back to me and we talked for quite awhile while he told me how he works and I told him my issues. It took me about 4 months to contact him again because things were just getting worse. We made plans to meet at a Starbucks and talked for at least 2 hours. He asked that I be completely honest and as hard as it was at first. I immediately knew that would be the only way to change things. He is 100% non judgmental, kind, insightful and smart emotionally and intellectually. I felt completely safe with him. We had a family meeting with him in the next few days and I have met with him twice since as well as many texts .His advice is rock solid and right. He saw things from the outside of our family dynamics that he was not shy about pointing out. Have given me the best advice and inspiration I have ever received from anyone. His kindness and caring are obvious from the start. After spending at least 10,000.00 over the past few years on doctors that really only care about the money his fee of 60.00 an hour speaks for itself. He is not in it for the money he truly wants to help you and in my case he has in so many ways that I feel more powerful happier than I have in years. Please get in touch with him he will help change your life for the better very quickly. I plan to keep seeing him for however long it takes until I feel I am the best I can be in all areas of my life. Thank you Michael truly.P.S. This guy is no touchy feely pushover he expects you to do your part too.

To put it simply, meeting JD has changed my life. I was initially looking for a hypnotherapist to assist me with conquering my social anxiety ~ but JD has done much more. He has helped me open my mind and embrace new experiences in life. His approach allows for me to empower myself as opposed to depending on others to do the task. He's like a mediator between you and your mind~ a cheerleader for your goals~ and an all-around awesome guy. He's down to earth and easy to talk to, from session #1 I've felt comfortable with opening up and trusting him with my true emotions. I've seen him on a weekly basis for the past month and each session has allowed me to peel back layers of personal barriers and blossom into my true self. I would recommend JD to anyone looking to improve their quality of life, whether it be on a large or small scale.

I could not speak more highly of Rachel as a friend and highly experienced wellness coach and yoga teacher. I have had the honour to work with Rachel 24/7 over the last several weeks whereby we focussed on nutrition, life coaching and physical fitness (therapeutic and Hatha flow yoga and weight training). Rachel’s approach to fitness and wellbeing goes way beyond the surface level – she has a 360 degrees holistic approach to emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing which is supported by the use of many different modalities (nutrition, fitness, motivational leadership, NLP therapy, body and energy work – all of which she is professionally accredited for!). A powerful quality Rachel has is that she is authentic – she speaks from her own hard earned experience – through reinventing herself from actor to professional body builder to all round wellness coach. She has experienced and overcome life challenges so she can relate to her clients at the very personal level – a far cry from text book approach! Her recent training in therapeutic yoga has formalized her outstanding ability to focus her energy 100% to the individual and she possesses a great insight to the needs to the person at that moment in time and tailors her approach accordingly. I have already seen and felt amazing results and have been truly inspired to continue with this extremely straight forward yet very effective programme! 😃

I am very happy with the services that I received from Dr. Murray S. Kaufman. The first time that I visited him I literally was a mess. I was dealing with IBS, and the condition was killing me because I didn't know how to live with it. I went to see Dr. Kaufman with the intention to receive a hypnosis protocol for IBS. I started the protocol; however, the doctor realized that I was suffering from anxiety disorder that was making the IBS flare up, and I started a therapy to work on that. Dr. Kaufman helped me to find the roots of my anxiety and how to deal with them. Every session was very productive, and I learned a lot about myself and dealing with my conditions. Now, I am in a much better place in life, and so thankful to Dr. Kaufman, because he helped me to overcome one of the darkest moments of my life. He is very knowledgeable, dedicated and professional. I recommend him from my heart to yours.

I really found a great deal of value working with Mrs. Lynn regarding my anxiety and stress issues. It was something I had ignored a dressing over the years and it notice Lee got worse with time. I found myself unable to function at work or with family and friends and was in desperate need of help. I am forever grateful for our paths crossing.

So much to be said about Patrick Cleveland! I started seeing him in September 2013, after a death in the family and when I was feeling particularly depressed and down. He is the 6th therapist I have seen, and the only one I stuck with and feel like has made a difference in my life. Patrick's approach is sincere, understanding, and always goes at a pace you are comfortable with. When I first met Patrick I was convinced I would be on medication (that left me drowsy and confused) for the rest of my life. With the coping skills I learned through therapy, I was able to quit taking medication (because it personally was not needed for me), and am now able to manage my moods, anxiety, and depression in a variety of ways. Patrick has helped me to see how my inner monologue of myself dictates how I feel about myself, and how I react to situations. He uses instances from his own time in therapy as examples to show that he does understand how you are feeling, and his empathy certainly helps with believing that you can get better. Therapy has helped me maintain a 4.0 in college, a healthy relationship, and improved thoughts I have about my own self-worth. I do not know where I would be if I did not contact him back in 2013. If you have never tried therapy, or have had a bad experience with a past therapist, then I would recommend you contact Patrick Cleveland.

I have had several sessions with Richard, mainly for motivational issues and some for marital issues. I have always come away profoundly changed for the better, thinking 'why didn't I see that' and the truth is he has the techniques that enable me to see for myself how I should think; he never tells me what to do. This is really empowering rather than being told I'm wrong in some way with traditional therapy. I can thoroughly recomend his practice.

Working with Saman for almost 3 years and I have to say that he has blossomed into a great professional. To be honest I was really skeptical if therapy was right for me, seeing as I only met him a year or so into his internship so I wasn't sure if he was able to help me. He is a very patient, compassionate and understanding person who takes this field of work to heart...It's pretty much his calling in life. Fast forward two and a half years later, I've learned ways to cope with my anxiety and have gained the confidence to accomplish my goals in my life.

I was referred to Los Angeles Therapy Institute through my own therapist. I was looking for a therapist who specialized in hoarding for my 65 years old sister who has had problems with hoarding for many many years. Her problem was so sever that we had to hire companies twice to get rid of her things and we spend many thousands of dollars for treatment! it was bad! When I saw Dr. Hosseini's email regarding review I really felt obligated to write an honest and wonderful review as she really helped my sister get rid of her hoarding problem. She worked with my sister for 7 months and during that time, she was able to manage her hoarding problem and the wonderful part of it is that she has maintained this even after terminating therapy with her. Dr. Hosseini changed my sister's life in major ways and we are grateful for her. I 100% recommend her.

My daughter has struggled with anxiety and selective mutism and has had therapy for a few years with a different therapist in the same office as Lindsay but had no progress but when she started to see Lindsay within weeks I noticed my daughters progression. Lindsay not only was good at making my daughter and myself feel comfortable and safe but was great with making sure to try different methods to help my daughters progression. I was also impressed with her going out of her way to do research and print out any information to help me help my daughter. She is very knowledgeable and passionate at her work. I would highly recommend her.

When I first went to see Julia, I was on medication for my anxiety. Her compassionate dialogue with me and professional advice helped me to work through my issues and live a life that I now look forward to. The hypnosis helped me immensely to let go of past co-dependent habits. It was very non-invasive and it actually helped me to relax more. I highly recommend Therapy under hypnosis with Julia Lyubchenko.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are the types of psychologists?

Psychologists are healthcare professionals who use scientific methods to understand the relationships between the brain, environment and behavior. Psychologists may focus on research — studying how the brain and various environments drive behaviors to better understand the issues that trouble patients and society as a whole — or they may focus on practice — interacting with people using therapeutic methods. The American Psychological Association shares some of the more prevalent types of psychologists:

      • Clinical psychologists assess and treat mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.
      • Cognitive and perceptual psychologists study human perception, thinking and memory.
      • Community psychologists work to strengthen the abilities of communities, settings, organizations and broader social systems to meet people’s needs — such as improving support for victims of natural disasters, or working to improve health policies.
      • Counseling psychologists help people understand and take action on everyday issues, career and work problems, and serious adversity.
      • Developmental psychologists study the psychological development of the human being throughout life.
      • Educational psychologists concentrate on how effective teaching and learning take place.
      • Engineering psychologists conduct research on how people work best with machines.
      • Environmental psychologists study the dynamics of how people interact with their environments.
      • Evolutionary psychologists study how evolutionary principles such as mutation, adaptation and selective fitness influence human thought, feeling and behavior.
      • Experimental psychologists study cognitive processes, comparative psychology (cross-species comparisons), and learning and conditioning.
      • Forensic psychologists apply psychological principles to legal issues.
      • Health psychologists specialize in how biological, psychological and social factors affect health and illness.
      • Industrial/organizational psychologists apply psychological principles and research methods to the workplace to improve productivity, health and the quality of work life.
      • Neuropsychologists and behavioral neuropsychologists explore the relationships between brain systems and behavior.
      • Quantitative and measurement psychologists focus on methods and techniques for designing experiments and analyzing psychological data.
      • Rehabilitation psychologists work with stroke and accident victims, people with mental disabilities, and those with developmental disabilities caused by such conditions as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.
      • School psychologists assess and counsel students, consult with parents and school staff, and conduct behavioral interventions when appropriate.
      • Social psychologists study how a person’s mental life and behavior are shaped by interactions with other people.
      • Sport psychologists help athletes refine their focus on competition goals, become more motivated, and learn to deal with anxiety and fear of failure around competition.

      What is a psychologist?

A psychologist is a professionally trained mental health professional who helps patients navigate challenging life situations or mental health issues. To become a psychologist you must earn a doctoral degree; qualifying degrees include a Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D. To actively practice, a psychologist must be licensed in their state and maintain good standing. Psychologists are trained to administer tests that can evaluate a patient’s cognitive strength and weaknesses, intellectual skills, vocational aptitude and preference, personality characteristics, and neuropsychological functioning, explains the American Psychological Association (APA).

A psychologist meets with patients in an office and may work with a variety of methods, depending on patient need, such as cognitive, behavioral or interpersonal.  According to the APA, common reasons a person may visit a psychologist include:

      • Dealing with depression, anger or anxiety over a long period of time.
      • Help with a chronic condition that is interfering with their lives or physical health.
      • Help with grieving and other abrupt transitions.
      • Overcoming addictions.
      • Managing chronic illness.
      • Breaking old and harmful patterns of thinking or behavior.

Can a clinical psychologist write prescriptions?

To be able to write a prescription, a clinical psychologist must practice in a state that permits them to do so, and must either have a master’s degree in psychopharmacology or have completed the required advanced training program. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), five states currently permit psychologists to write prescriptions: Idaho, New Mexico, Illinois, Iowa and Louisiana. Many psychologists who are not able to write prescriptions work in partnership with psychiatrists, pediatricians or primary care doctors to help their patients who need medication.

      How much do therapists cost?

If you are experiencing a challenging time, have mental health difficulties, or just want professional guidance as you move through life, a therapist can provide relief, tools and structure. The national average cost for a therapist is $80-$100 per hour, although prices may be higher or lower depending on geographic location and the experience and training of the therapist.

Psychiatrists, psychologists and licensed therapists are all health professionals who offer various modalities of therapy. Ask questions about the type of therapy they specialize in (such as cognitive or behavioral, etc.) and their area of expertise (such as grief, anxiety, body image disorders, etc.) to help you find the right fit for your needs. Therapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes long.  The patient usually meets with the therapist in their office; sessions may also be held remotely (via Skype, etc.) or in a clinical setting. Psychologists, psychiatrists and other therapists who have earned advanced degrees will typically charge higher rates than other licensed therapists. Depending on your diagnosis, your health insurance may cover your therapy costs.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
