Our daughter has only done one session with Marissa at InSight so far but we are thrilled with how it went. We thought we were hiring an SAT tutor but Marissa is so much more. She is very experienced in the whole college application process as well and is coaching our daughter on how to apply for -- and get accepted to -- her favorite schools.

Nina Rubin is a great life coach for people who want practical advice and are uncomfortable with the idea of conventional therapy or coaching. She has training in Gestalt and marriage and family therapy, so what she teaches comes from a credible knowledge base, and she makes an effort to check in and make sure her clients are getting what they want from the experience. Coaching is typically from her home or other location (like a beach) she feels is appropriate for the client, and sessions are typically an hour long, though there is some flexibility, again, depending on the client. Her strongest traits are her compassion and the fact that Nina is a "buddy" type. That is to say, while typically people are apprehensive about opening up to a professional coach or therapist, Nina is such a down-to-earth person, speaking with her and getting advice feels as though you are just chatting with a close friend. As a younger person, she is ideal for people in the 20's and 30's age group, though her advice is applicable across the board. Most importantly, because Nina comes from a therapeutic background, she has connections that allow her to refer clients out if she feels that their issues require more than she can provide, and she is extremely ethical and compassionate, so will indeed refer if needed. My only criticism of Nina is that because she is younger, she does not always pick up quickly on one's issue, but as long as the client is willing to be candid and give her as much information as possible, she is open to being directed to where the client wants to go. Again, I strongly recommend her for younger people and those who are uncomfortable with the idea of life coaching or traditional therapy. Prices are reasonable, and the sessions are worth it.

Kyle not only is an amazing personal trainer, but an amazing person too. He helped my recover from a back injury that prevented my from doing what I love, and had me jumping and running around in less than 4months.

My life coaching experience with Patti has been remarkably supportive and compassionate. It has been extremely rewarding to have Patti in my corner, encouraging me to reach beyond my limits and helping me to overcome obstacles that hindered my progress. She also helped me to identify some limiting beliefs and replace them with more realistic beliefs. Together, we created a plan that allowed me to take the necessary action to accomplish my goals. I genuinely appreciate her ability to guide me through tough decisions by allowing me a very proactive role in the process. I am now living on purpose with passion and impact! Thank you Patti!

I have been working out with Jerry for nine years. After having a false heart attack from stress when I was fifty, I decided to find a trainer. I needed an appointment for health, otherwise, I would not do it on my own. Those first years Jerry respected that I was just not ready to deal with my weight and was exercising to destress. Although, when the time came, he got me down over 50 lbs. Unfortunately, one of the gifts of cancer treatment was to gain that back and then some. Jerry works with me to be strong during chemo and keeping my spirits up. So we start again on the weight thing. (Let's face it, Jerry isn't in control of my fork and mouth disease. That would be me.) I would be so much worse without him. Why is he the best trainer I've ever had? Why have I followed him to different gyms? 1. He doesn't train by rote. i.e. one training fits all. He assesses your needs, limitations and goals. 2. He keeps himself educated, knows the body and nutrition thoroughly. 3. Again, he trains to your needs not his. (If you've had bad trainers you know what I mean.) 4. He keeps the training sessions interesting with a variety of workouts. (I joke, that you could give Jerry a length of string and a brick and you'd be sweating your workout.) 5. He knows when to push and when to back off. If you want to make a difference in your life and keep an appointment for health. Do yourself a favor, do it with Jerry.

          About

I offer personal empowerment coaching, clairvoyant readings, space clearing and blessings for both personal and real estate needs. I am a healer who assists you in healing emotional, physical, mental and spiritual blockages. My gift is guiding you to fully open and integrate to your highest potential. I have found that the space around us is filled with emotions, some negative, and some positive. Often I see fear, a sense of lacking or wanting, judgment, guilt, regret, and worry. My work transforms and transmutes energy patterns such as these and creates a clear environment, be it your home, office or personal space. Most of us tend to look through our past experiences and create our future. Our old conditioning habits from parents, schooling, and other people's belief systems, for the most part, are self-limiting. By using a combination of energetic and intuitive guidance, my work facilitates acceptance and new beginnings for each client I am honored to serve. For over twenty years, I have been blessed to be a coach and a healer of body, mind, spirit and Mother Earth. I am walking this planet to help others enlighten and empower themselves with the knowledge of who they really are, wherever they are on their path. I am looking forward to working with you, and assisting you on your life journey. Blessings, Judy We accept in-person or phone appointments.

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

          What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

          Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.
