Concrete tile roof with a couple tiles completely gone and a dozen cracked. Responded within an hour to my call for help. Made an appointment to estimate job and showed up on time. Walked the roof thoroughly listing all damages in about 30-40 minutes, and gave me a very reasonable price quote I feel. Didn't try to up sell me. Got all the needed material together and knocked the job out in less than four hours. I've worked in construction and building and facilities maintenance for over forty years, and I can tell you these guys are expert, honest, open and straight forward. I highly recommend Alvarado Roofing Service for any roofing work you may need. Great price, great service, expert high quality results.

We hired Excel Construction (Eyal) to completely remodeling our kitchen and to design and build a large wet bar. The remodeling job that they did included the demolition of the existing spaces, the removal of several existing walls, rewiring of some electrical outlets and switches, re-plumbing the new spaces, remove and install new flooring, new upper and lower cabinets, install new marble countertops, installing new lighting fixtures, fresh interior paint, some drywall repairs and adding a new large island at the kitchen. Eyal and his working crew did a stunning remodeling job. Eyal create for us a complete design of the work based on what we wanted and needed, guided us through some space limitations of the house and presented to us some different ideas that met our needs. The remodeling job was delivered on time, within budget and with high quality. Eyal was at the house every day and made sure that the remodeling progress is on track. He was there for each and every step of the work, which was extremely important to us. We highly recommend them for anyone who is searching for high quality remodeling or construction work.

From the cabinets to countertops, flooring, lighting, electrical, backsplash, sink, plumbing and painting there is not one thing I wish he had done differently. I hired Julio to re-roof my enclosed patio. He was the third person I had quote the job. The first 2 quotes where more expensive, but most concerning was the fact that neither would give me the total price in writing. Julio sent a detailed job summary and cost directly to my phone. The job consisted of: Removing and hauling away the existing roof (shingle material), Removing & replacing a 10 foot section of dry rotted wood, replace entire fascia, and Install a Granulated Torch style roof. Julio was able to schedule and complete the job on the weekend which was great for me. They were on time, and everything went as planned - no surprises or added expenses. What impressed me the most was the work he preformed that wasn't on the contract. I had a problem with excess water runoff where the garage and house roofs met. If I didn't put a barrel there it would enter & flood my garage. He showed up Sunday with a gutter system that would redirect the water away from the house. Even though I offered to pay for the materials and/or time it took to install he put it up at no charge. I would recommend using Julio for any roofing or repair job. He does quality work at a great price and has integrity.

Reasonable, efficient and professional! After months of stress and inconvenience dealing with contractors who didn't show up, and others who overbid and exaggerated, it was such a relief to find Angelo. We had to ask them to come back and rebid the job because we forgot about another roof leak the first time. They gladly came back and adjusted (reasonably) to fit the extra work in. We scheduled within days, and yesterday morning they showed up on time. I was prepared for a loud and messy day, but was pleasantly surprised at how quiet and clean they were. They showed me the work after it was completed and everything looked great. They even did a couple extra things not mentioned. I'm so glad I didn't believe I needed to pay thousands to do a fairly simple job (regardless of the scare tactics). All we needed was someone who knew what they were doing. Excellent work. PS, They don't know but I work in Real Estate and agents are always emailing looking for honest roofing contractors (I tried this route before and failed). So I will be confidently referring them in the future!!

I had a GREAT experience with Daniel from World Class Construction! I did not know him before, but he is now my "go to " guy. I had a smaller but very difficult job with some drainage issues and he came up with good suggestions on a repair and his cost and service were great. Also had some additional drywall work done and he was also very fair and competitive. Daniel was also very professional in every aspect, from the contract to finshing the work.

Samson Roofing saved the day for my entire home improvement project!! I was all set to have my home “modernized” with several energy efficiency upgrades starting with and including the installation of a “cool” new roof, when the day before the roofing project was to begin, the planned roofing company backed out of the project!! I was in a real bind (as I had taken a week’s vacation) to oversee the several projects that were to be completed. On Sunday night, Samson Roofing was contacted and first thing Monday morning, Lior (from Samson Roofing) was at my door. His foreman came out on Tuesday to make sure they could order the needed materials; and they started the roof replacement on Wednesday. They worked long and hard for next four days (which just happened to be the four hottest days this year here in the west end of the San Fernando Valley). They put on the finishing touches the following Monday. Their Team (Rafael and Martin and helpers) were great and Lior was in constant contact and kept on top of requesting the inspections from the city. Their hard worked enabled the rest of my project(s) to complete on time. I am grateful for them coming to the rescue for me. I recommend them to anyone with any roofing needs. Best Regards, Dave West Hills, CA

Erick and his team were outstanding! We have been through our share of contractors the past 17 years of living in Pacific Palisades. They were on time, on budget, professional and CLEAN. Working on roofs is tough, dirty jib, but each night the Solar Connection guys cleaned up and left my property nearly spotless. If you need construction services of any kind, call Erick at Solar Connections.

I was ready for some remodeling in my home. My kitchen needed an update and so did a few of the bathrooms. Searching google I found GIM and saw that they did energy efficient remodeling and upgrades. I contacted GIM and set an appointment for a consultant to come by to show me some options. The consultant showed us many samples of flooring, tile, roofing, painting, and multiple other products they offered. They even had their own architect to take care of the drawings for me and also had a 3d design for the kitchen. All the work was done properly and my home was left clean everyday. Appreciate all the hard work.

Last we used Solid Builders to renovate our house from top to bottom (roof, hardwood floors, year, painting inside and out) and we were entirely happy with the final product. Not only did the team and crew used the best craftsmen to renovate our house in carpentry, painting and tile work, they also supervised the work every day and made sure that the work was done to our satisfaction. They conscientiously covered and stored all our furniture to protect it from dust and the construction work, and carefully put it back in place when all the work was finished. Brad and David are honest, knowledgeable in their trade, and fun to work with. We are so pleased with their work that we recommend them to friends and family, and do not hesitate to call upon them each time we have some construction work to be done in our house. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
